Sony Flexes PlayStation Plus Muscles: Over $1200 in Savings in 2011

12/08/2011 Written by Anthony Severino

PlayStation Plus is $50 a year. That’s expensive for any type of service. But when you weigh the potential savings against the cost of PlayStation Plus, the value is unmatched.

Sony has taken the liberty of showing everyone just how much you can save with PlayStation Plus… by releasing some highlights of the service over the past 12 months.

For just $50, you could have saved $1200 on various PlayStation Plus offers. Granted, you’d have to buy everything they offer, but that’s a value you can’t shake a stick at. Take a look at some of 2011′s PlayStation Plus highlights.

  • Number of free PlayStation 3 games offered: 17
  • Value of free PS3 games and add-ons: more than $200 -Highlights: Costume Quest, Stacking, Plants vs. Zombies, Hydrophobia Prophecy (Move), Magic the Gathering: Duels of the Planeswalkers 2011
  • Number of PlayStation 3 game discounts: 132 – Highlights: Magic the Gathering: Duels of the Planeswalkers 2012, Braid, Resident Evil Code Veronica X HD, Call of Duty Black Ops Sale, Borderlands Full Bundle, Limbo
  • Number of full game trials: 43 – Highlights: Mortal Kombat vs. DC Universe, Red Dead Redemption
  • Number of betas: 4 – Highlights: UNCHARTED 3: Drake’s Deception, SOCOM 4: U.S. Navy SEALs Multiplayer Beta
  • Number of Early Access Demos: 6 – Highlights: Mortal Kombat, Killzone 3 Single Player

Looking at that list, Sony has every right to brag. And that’s not all that PlayStation Plus has to offer. I’ve been taking full advantage of the cloud storage to move Skyrim saves back and forth between PS3s. I also never have to wait to sync my trophies.

My PlayStation Plus just renewed which had me thinking back – I’ve easily saved over the $50 initial cost, got a ton of free goodies, and early access to a few demos and betas. I’d say that’s money well spent.

  1. Its a good deal if your on your PS3 24/7(i.e you need to be to play all that stuff) :D I might do it because i really want to back up my ‘copy protected’ saves(well the few that are copy protected, what a f-in pain in the ass copy protected saves are) :-/

I think it’s worth it for some people. Until they get blockbuster games (full BDs) on PS+ discount and 60-minute trials for all, they have lost me. They just gave out a bunch of free casual games and stuff in my eyes, some decent discounts here or there. I’d rather save the subscription fee and buy the stuff I want. I don’t have time for the free PS one classics, and Minis. Although some are great… When I spend $60 on a new game, or even $40, that is what I play. Don’t judge me just yet… I had the annual subscription with the free 3 months, watched all the Qore episodes (some are good, most are decent). I used all the features of PS+, it’s just not for me. Get more full games on it with discounts and full trials, then you’ll get me back. I don’t need or have the time for all the “fluff” that they give for free or highly discounted. Just sayin.

Was well worith it for me. I just wish they increase the max limit for cloud save storage to at least 500MB or even better, 1GB. Other than that, the features are awesome and I love the free goodies.

I joined Plus earlier this year and it’s been worth joining for the discounts like I got Back To the Future(Entire Season) for $11.99 versus paying $19.99 for it. I also got RE4 and Code Veronica for $9.99 each compared to spending $40 for both titles as they were $19.99 regular price. Also the cloud storage is neat being able to save your saves to cloud to make backups just in case.
