Martial arts film series Ong-Bak, which has had three action-packed installments starring Tony Jaa, is getting a multiplatform video game coming in 2012.

Studio HIVE, based in Thailand, has secured the video game development rights to the series. They’ll be working closely in collaboration with license holder Sahamongkol Film International in order to create a deeper story involvement for Ong-Bak fans.

Akarapol Techaratanaprasert, business development director at Sahamongkol Film International, comments:

Ong-Bak is well known as a powerful international martial arts brand. We are very selective with our licensing partners and found in Studio HIVE the right partner to bring Ong-Bak to gaming platforms. Their approach to tie in movie and game is the right way to create a perfect interactive entertainment.

Kan Supabanpot, General Manager at Studio HIVE adds:

It’s a great honour for our team to work on the very first Ong-Bak multiplatform game. As a Thai development studio we love the movie and have a deep understanding of the Ong-Bak brand values and we make sure that the videogame will be an inspiring martial arts action experience for gamers.

  1. Interesting… The first movie is crazy badas*.

I just hope it isn’t like the marketing. I remember seeing Wutang Clan on MTV talking about their “Boy Tony Jaa” doing some “Crazy Shit”

later in the theater I realized they were in no way associated with the movie…and that the movie wasn’t in English.

How are the gonna pull this through with out making it feel like a totally scripted experience. Heavenly Sword type of diversity with free flowing combo system that feels almost limitless with it’s diversity.

I loved Tony Ja’s movies. I think he belongs with the greats such as Bruce Lee and Jackie Chan. Let’s hope Hollywood doesn’t ruin him if they decide to make a movie with him in it. A while back I read somewhere that Tony was trying to learn the English language, so it wouldn’t surprise me to see him in an American movie soon.

Totally agree with ya, Tony Jaa is the man and I have the same hopes. I’d get real pumped for this game if I felt confident they’ll do it right, but Studio Hive isn’t exactly known for putting out games – they’re more of a concept imagery studio (www.studio-hive.com). Nonetheless, I’m curious about how this’ll turn out.

    hello …

I would rather see him as a special guest character in some already deeply installed series than in a new game of its own, movie tie-ins rarely do justice.

anyway loved the movies & a big fan of Tony Jaa … wishing the best out of this

    cheers!
