Rumor: Final Fantasy Type-0 Coming To The US – As A Vita Release?

01/18/2012 Written by Nick Michetti

Square Enix has released a fairly well-received installment of Final Fantasy, Final Fantasy Type-0, for the PSP in Japan. However, the state of the PSP is much better in Japan than it is in North America, and gamers have been left wondering if FFT-0 will ever come stateside. A new rumor today says that FFT-0 is coming to the United States, but on a different handheld PlayStation platform.

1UP.com, in a feature titled “The Top PSP and PS Vita Games of 2012,” lists FFT-0 and says the following about the game:

Formerly known as Final Fantasy Agito XIII, Type 0 is easily the most ambitious PSP title ever published; the Japanese release came on two UMDs and featured insane loading times if you didn’t install the game. No worries, though. We have it on good authority that Square Enix will be bringing the game to the U.S. as a Vita release, which should relieve some of the game’s technical issues and work around the fact that the PSP market is moribund in the west.

FFT-0‘s international release had been mentioned in an interview with the game’s director, Hajime Tabata, in its Ultimania guide.

Also, an import review of FFT-0 for PSP can be read here, courtesy of our own Senior Editor, Heath Hindman.

  1. Wow. That’s…and excellent idea. I thought it was just going to be made available on the PSN Store so PSP and Vita owners could buy it, but a Vita-specific version seems like a great idea. As long as it doesn’t carry the Square Enix tax of…an extra ten dollars on the price tag, this sounds like a fantastic idea.

  2. Nice! I hope it does come as a Vita release!

Wow. A game that requires 2 UMDs is pretty big. Moving it to the Vita is pretty sweet.

  4. Nice!! I hope this pans out. If this comes true, Monster Hunter Vita can wait until the end of the year to ensure constant flow of good games.

    • For Japan’s sake, Monster Hunter can’t come quickly enough.

The PSP version of Type-0 sold insane amounts in Japan and by now, the price of the physical version has dropped below the download version. A Vita version won’t do much for Japanese sales of the Vita.

It might be nice for the US side of things, but in Japan, Monster Hunter, Dragon Quest, and/or a non-ported Final Fantasy need to arrive as soon as possible.

Awesome, another game I can play on Vita.

  6. This would be much better.
    Add trophies too please.
