After several leaks, Capcom have decided to reveal Resident Evil 6 before the viral campaign’s deadline. Along with the official announcement, the game has been dated and Capcom have released a trailer and some artwork.

Resident Evil 6 will release on November 20, 2012 for PS3 and 360, with a PC version to follow. The game is set to be “the most ambitious, immersive and feature rich title of the series to date and promises to be the dramatic horror experience of the year”. In a press release, the publisher revealed the first official plot details surrounding the game:

It has been ten years since the Raccoon City incident and the President of the United States has decided to reveal the truth behind what took place in the belief that it will curb the current resurgence in bioterrorist activity. Due to be by the President’s side is his personal friend and Raccoon City survivor, Leon S. Kennedy, but when the venue suffers a bioterrorist attack, Leon is forced to face a President transformed beyond recognition and make his hardest ever decision. At the same time, Bioterrorism Security Assessment Alliance member Chris Redfield arrives in China, itself under threat of a bioterrorist attack. With no country safe from these attacks and the ensuing outbreaks, the entire world’s population is united by a common fear that there is no hope left.

Leon and Chris will come together to face the bioterrorist threat, but will also be joined by new characters, each with their own unique perspective of, and involvement in, the global disaster.

Katsuhiko Ichii, Head of R&D and Global Marketing said:

Resident Evil 6 represents a giant stride forward in the evolution of the series. The development team, led by Hiroyuki Kobayashi, is working tirelessly to deliver the most impressive Resident Evil® title ever both in terms of scope and production values. We are all genuinely excited by the title and cannot wait to share it with the world.

Hiroyuki Kobayashi, Resident Evil 6 Executive Producer added:

From the outset the team’s intention was to create an experience that delivers a gripping storyline, tense single-player and co-op action all set against a constant theme of horror. We are calling this fusion dramatic horror and are confident it will resonate with both existing fans of the series as well as newcomers.

My jaw hit the floor the moment I saw the gameplay, way more improved, sprinting, looks like you can use melee without having to stun the enemy, sliding to and under enemies, I simply can’t wait. Pleas Capcom, dont fuck this up with an annoying, naggy co-op partner that wastes health sprays the instant you stub your toe… Thats Sheva Im talking about in case anyone was wondering :P

  3. This game has made up for all the crap Capcom has pulled and brought us these past 3 years. RE has always been my most favorite franchise.

  4. Timewarp says:

Oh Capcom you are forgiven. I’m just holding out for three things

    1) Resident Evil 6 follows suit from Operaction Raccoon City and allows us to run and shoot

    2) The game has a system where if your playing alone you don’t have a second player character

    3) maybe even do something similar to the first two games with the two of you taking completly differant routes yet your actions influencing the other players experiance (E.G – One character causes an explosion and attracts the Tyrant that was attacking the other player)

Still that trailer was amazing and it looks like Capcom is really starting to look at what their audiences want from Resident Evil.

  5. andreios says:

Finnaly after all the BS (ex: operation raccoon city), This is an RE title I can actually look forward to

  6. At long last, Resident Evil is back!

  7. ZombieHell says:

FUCK YES!!! I’M A DIE HARD RESIDENT EVIL FAN, everything in this trailer looks AMAZING! From the story to the new and improved gameplay mechanics. I can’t believe one of my dreams came true LEON AND CHRIS ON THE SAME RE GAME!

  8. Dave F says:

I dont know if capcom was listening to thier fan base by putting leon (my favorite character in the RE series) and chris together in one game or just something they decided to do on there own either way this is going on reserve right away and as an RE fan with 4 being my favorite im willing to pay whatever for a special edition. This looks like the most epic RE to date with so much going on i can see alot of twist and turns via the story. Cant wait for the ride come november. (Random shit) damn leons getting older there starting to make him age i can see it oh well no character can stay the same age as sequels progress.

  9. Oh. My God. YOU CAN MOVE AND SHOOT AGAIN!!!!!

  10. laurence says:

oh well this is disappointing i was hoping they were actually going to make real a resi this time for the real resi fans. looks like the survival horror genre is dead, I’m blaming America for this.

    • Timewarp says:

Really? I’ve seen the first Resi games and they don’t seem that scary it seems like from the beginning the franchise was fighting a losing battle against Silent Hill. Also it’s not really the fault of america but really just what the majority are buying, remember that games companies will always aim for a high target audience because they want to make a lot of money like every business unless of course you can find me a business (a successful one) that dosen’t like making money and just saying we care isn’t the same as actually caring.

      • laurence says:

you haven’t played the first 3 resi obliviously which where by far the best in the series. what made them so great was that they were survival horror games which meant you always had to save your ammo and health to survive and only use your big guns as a last resort and there wasn’t endless waves of zombies which kills the atmosphere (RE5).

And yes the olds one were more scary. I’ll never forget the first time seeing the hunter and realizing OMG i don’t have have the ammo to take that thing on and i haven’t saved in ages RUUUUUUN.
where as now in the new resident evils i would just go hmmm hand cannon, sub machine gun, or fire grenades???.

you said capcom is just trying to make the most money by pleasing the most people.

this is unfortunate. a game dev should not first think what games are popular now? and then try build there game around that info. they should go with what they think would make a great game and listen to the core fans. This is probably why the japanese devs aren’t making the great games they use to.

      • Timewarp says:

actually they should and they always have it’s how games publishers and devs decide which games to make and which ones should be avoided by looking at market trends and seeing what is selling out there, there is NO let me repeat that NO point in making a product if barely anyone is going for it at the moment otherwise you have a game barely anyone wants. That dosen’t mean making Call Of Duty because market research isn’t just seeing what the best game is, it’s looking at the themes, the genre, what people like to see in games. I know it sucks when you hate what the majority are playing but unfortunely that’s how it works for everyone. Why do you think FPS games are always being released?

Also I have actually played the first Resident Evil games and yes the new ones are kinda similar actually, in all of them you start of with a simple handgun and actually I’d say the inventory system for Resi 4 & 5 was the best thing they brought back from the old games, it had this thing where you had to decide what was more important, buying a new gun, upgrading an old gun or getting a health spray for an emergency. What ruined Resi 5 wasn’t that they went more towards action but because the game made stupid choices that just didn’t make any sense, a cover system for what? One or two acts?! An A.I buddy that’s annoying as hell.

Then the infinite ammo that you could use on all difficulties. Uncharted 2 had a system where you had to complete the game on the difficulty you wanted to play on before you could have the cheats so you couldn’t complete on easy, unlock infinite ammo and then go to expert, how Capcom could make a mistake like this when the solution was right in front of them I’ll never understand.

But like I said, games companies don’t really have a choice at the moment. They want what will make them the most money and that means making a game that the majority of us want. Still the game isn’t even out like I’ve mentioned in this thread already, the game could still have the same old inventory system and we have no idea what direction capcom are taking this game in. Still there’s zombies, the best graphics I’ve ever seen in a video game (Please let this not be pre-rendered), great set-pieces. Capcom seem to be finally listening. Worst case scenerio we get a Fear themed Resident Evil and we’ll be constantly waiting to get back to the Leon sections of the game (where it’ll be based around Resi 1 & 2 AKA it’ll be based around the good games and not the annoying Not-Zombies)

Looks like I better start saving my money now….

  12. cigarley says:

    >with a PC version to follow
Oh boy, another crappy port job. Way to treat the most powerful/easiest to develop for platform, Capcom

Although seeing Leon aiming and moving simultaneously pleased me to no end.

  13. wtGp says:

finally the return of zombies. Looks like Capcom has finally learned Zombies=Survival Horror. Going back to their roots. Parasite infected people was the dumbest idea they thought of, not scary when they yell back to get off their lawn. RE6 may be it’s saving grace

    • NukeA6 says:

Resident Evil is scary? It’s nothing compared to Silent Hill, Fatal Frame, or even Eternal Darkness.

BTW, the best Resident Evil had those parasite infected people.

      • Toxia says:

i dont remember those parasites being in resident evil 2 or code veronica….

      • wtGp says:

classic Resident Evil had the horror aspect down. Also those parasite infected people marked the downhill of Resident Evil games. Back on track with zombies

  14. i_am_noob says:

well this looks better than RE5 was.. not that RE5 wasn’t decent/fun enough but I doubt it’ll recapture the greatness I remember from 1-3 (esp my favourite 2)

once again focus is on action and shooting/fighting/acrobatics. to me what made the first games so great was being down to your last clip and actually having to evade/thread your way through hoards of zombies.. knowing you couldn’t take them down but they could easily swarm you made it so intense/exciting.. if you’re HALF-DECENT at any sort of shooter the recent REs are just a cookie cutter breeze

also.. wtf is up with the idiots and the “I want to run and shoot at the same time?” that was NEVER in any RE games. I had never heard anyone complain about that until after 4 when they started to shift the focus to shooter.. and then those are not true real RE fans anyway. it’s more fun knowing when you change stance to prep yourself to shoot you’re stationary and immobile! then you gotta pick your moments/openings to use your firearms. running away trying to find space so you can finally get a breather and shoot was such a great thing! it’s cuz of the poser-RE-fan idiots making capcom think they have to change the original RE formula to cater to the COD crowd that messes the whole thing up.

the whole zombie shooter thing is being done to death anyway.. can’t they just leave this ONE franchise alone? simply go play one of the other half dozen over-the-top 1st/3rd person zombie shooters.

but hey at least they made a strong effort to mention “horror” like 3 or 4 times.. maybe they’re going to shift the focus back where it belongs once again? let’s hope so!

    • Timewarp says:

I don’t see the problem. How is it bad that Capcom want to evolve the Resident Evil games and learn from their previous titles, this looks like a return of what everyone liked about the original games mixed in with what worked from the new titles. Also I take it that comment is directed at me so how am I an idiot for wanting to run and shoot at the same time, yeah sure it adds to the tension but most of the time for me persernally I just found it annoying. Remember that this game isn’t out yet so from now till the release we might find out we can’t run or shoot or in a better scenerio it can be turned off to add more of a challenge.

Also “if you’re HALF-DECENT at any sort of shooter the recent REs are just a cookie cutter breeze”, I’ve seen Rookie mode for Resident Evil 2 which is “much like easy mode but with the Gatling Gun, MAC-11 SMG and Rocket Launcher in your inventory at the start of the game” I’m pretty certain that’d make the game a breeze to play through.

But really the game isn’t even out yet so perhaps we should wait before passing finale judgement. Capcom has plenty of time to let us down or make a brilliant new title in the Resident Evil franchise. Then at the same time after Resident Evil 5 there’s no way Capcom could let us down, a horror game kinda hits rock bottom when the zombie-mutant enemies have guns.

  15. Seems like Leon’s gameplay goes back to old classic RE while Chris’s is pure action oriented like RE5.You can already tell they put the virus in there G,T or whatever (Zombies)and the parasite virus as well (Tentacles)

  16. Wtf these not look good not scary at all they into action fighting gay

  17. I’ve been a RE fan since the first came out, but I guess I’m from a minority that really liked RE:5, mostly ’cause of the co-op option, which no other RE had. But this, this…. This is truly beautiful. It looks like a great combination of real Survival Horror and what Capcom learned from RE:4 and RE:5. Looking forward to it.

  18. Axl Rose says:

It’s awesome and all… BUT!… I’m so not falling again for it! this time my friend I WILL WAIT FOR RE6 GOLD EDITION! >:(
