Sony is pushing toward a digital-only future, but the only way they’re going to make that happen is if they incentivize their consumers to purchase their games digitally rather than going to the store to buy a boxed copy. As such, Sony has made the all too wise decision to offer PS Vita titles over the PlayStation Network for a discounted price in the US.
The price difference was already confirmed for Japan, so Shacknews reached out to Sony to find out if the same would apply to the United States. A Sony rep confirmed that the US PlayStation Network would follow suit.
I can confirm that there will be a discount on the downloadable PS Vita titles from PSN. Exact details have not yet been revealed, but be on the lookout for an announcement in the very near future.
Unfortunately we don’t know exactly how much of a discount going digital will get you, but it’ll hopefully be significant.
I wonder if PS+ will be part of it. That would be a huge incentive: PS+ members get 10-15% off all digital copies of retail games.
Well, time to stack up on PSN cards…
honestly it better be no less than 25% off without the ability to sell resell them used…I got a PSPgo and later in the PSP life cycle so that every digital game I bought was at a fairly low price but if I adopt the Vita earlier I need to be able to either sell my games used or the digital versions need to be cheap enough from the onset that I don’t need to worry about it. But at 25% off we would be looking at $40 boxed games costing $30 on PSN and $30 games costing $22.50 which I think is reasonable. Of course I would love to see an even higher discount but I’m trying to be realistic.
If I’m not mistaken, Vita games are locked to your system in some way, so they may not end up being tradeable.
I really hope that isn’t true.
You won’t get trophies on games that have been played on another system.
vita games aren’t locked to your system; only the trophies are
Wrong. You can sell them, but since the save data is on the game card, and the save contains trophy data, you cannot pop in someone else’s card to get their trophies. Get what I’m saying? You can however, earn your OWN trophies.
Placing bets it will be 10$ less. That won’t entice me!!!
Honestly, I think it’s kind of a rip-off for those who want the physical copies. For one, physical copies won’t take up tons of space on your memory card which, oh my, costs a ton. You’ll need the most expensive memory card to go digital, thereby, Sony gets more money. Honestly, I don’t want to download the game every time I want to play it. Obviously having them all on one card would be easier, but how many can you really fit on a 32GB memory card? It just all sounds a bit too ridiculous. And $10 is quite a bit of a price difference, so people buying the physical copies are getting ripped off because they bought a physical one because they maybe only have the 4GB memory card. Honestly, Sony is really pissing me off with this handheld.
I haven’t looked that much into it but I assume they have to allow you to use a media management program like Media Go just like they did with the PSP. Otherwise they are severely limited the amount of content one can purchase off of PSN. With that said, you wouldn’t need a large memory card unless you felt the need to bring more than just a couple games with you at a time. No one needs to carry their entire library of games around with them.
would rather have the physical copy no matter how cheaper the downloaded version is
here we go, 5$ cheaper LOL. No savings TBH, bandwidth costs, time to DL, and it will take up physical space…….

“…the all too wise decision…” What the !?! ’bout time you should said.
Why has it taken Sony this long to realise they should charge less for the digital version? I’ve seen tons of PS3 digital copies selling for the same price as the retail version so if they know we won’t pay that much for the digital versions of PSV titles why do they think the PS3 games are somehow differant?
It’s the same with most products that have a physical and digital version, you not getting the all the things the companies would normally have to charge to cover the costs for the physical copy so why don’t they work out a price for the digital version. I think they just think we’re stupid enough not to notice that we’re paying £39.99 for Assassin’s Creed: Revalations on the PSN Store when we could just buy the physical copy somewhere else for cheaper.
now could you gave me 2 slots of accounts???
BECAUSE I NEED 2!!!
i use my brazilian account to play and the american to buy games !!!
I’ll be buying physical copies of everything so that I don’t have to carry 2 Vitas and a PSP to play all of my downloaded content.
Good idea but they need to work on things like funding errors (80023102), adding more content (more PS1, PS2 games at the least) and better organization of the store.
either way i think a discount is a discount it doesnt mater the shape or form of it i still get to save something and ps+ members will probably will get a little extra i guess we will just have to see
