In only a few hours, Double Fine’s Kickstart Campaign – set up to help fund the developer’s next project – has amassed over $600,000.
The campaign is collecting pledges to fund “a classic point-and-click adventure utilizing modern touch technology.” The goal was to achieve $400,000, which has since been surpassed in eight hours. The current funds are now clocking in at well over $600,000, with excess money to be spent on localization and multiple platforms.
Schafer expressed his excitement in seeing so many gamers backing the project, which has now reached over 16,000.
Think it will work? I hope so, because I would rather work directly for the fans than for anyone else.
If the Double Fine Kickstarter Adventure is a success, it could open the doors for all sorts of new funding possibilities, and all kinds of new games that could never happen in the old system. So basically I’m just talking about changing the entire world forever for the better. And getting a game out of it.
If you’d like to help fund the project, be sure to head over here and join thousands of other gamers in supporting Double Fine’s next project.
This is quite possibly the coolest thing ever done by a developer.
And definitely the coolest thing done by a developer’s fans
Maybe with the extra money, they could save for Psychonauts, hehe. This is very cool, I might throw some donation in there too. One of my favorite game makers for a long time.
I pledged immediately after I found it, it was still in the 5-figure area. I wasn’t expecting this to pick up so fast, that’s amazing.
They’re almost at $900K. They’ll hit $1M by this time tomorrow. Fantastic fantastic news for the gaming industry. Games funded by the fans. It’s brilliant! Image any other developer doing something like this! I feel this is the start of something much much bigger!
Hmmmm, I know a greedy Massachusetts moderate with a ton of money that is looking to create jobs, maybe this an oppertunity for him.
Double Fine should do a Kickstart Campaign for Psychonauts!
Close to 1 million now!!!! Awesome
They Just hit 1mil!
