Todd Howard Talks Skyrim DLC, “They’ll Feel Closer to an Expansion Pack”

Bethesda is currently hard at work on downloadable content for Skyrim, but don’t worry, it won’t come in the form of overpriced horse armor. Instead, studio head Todd Howard has come forward to assure gamers that DLC for the game will be much larger in scale than what they’ve done in the past.

Speaking to Kotaku, Howard pointed out that while gamers may have to wait a bit longer than they did with Fallout 3 for DLC, it will be well worth it.

For Fallout 3 we did five DLCs. That was a very aggressive path for us. Our plan now is to take more time, to have more meat on them [for Skyrim]. They’ll feel closer to an expansion pack. With Fallout 3, it was, ‘Ten dollars is the sweet spot for us and we know we want to put out five of them. And we had overlapping teams. We were coming off Fallout 3 and right back in.

We just think we can do better content if we approach it a different way.

To hold Skyrim loyalists over between each major content release, Howard said that the team will be releasing smaller free add-ons to bridge the gap and keep gamers immersed in the Elder Scrolls universe.

Because that gap is going to be bigger, we want to put little things out for free in between. We’ve already done that for PC with the high-res pack. We’re trying to figure out what those things are.

Keep it locked to PlayStation LifeStyle for future news on Skyrim DLC.
