Official iOS/Android PlayStation App Gets New Update, Adds Augmented Reality

To celebrate the release of the PS Vita, Sony has updated the “PlayStation Official App” to v1.31, adding an augmented reality-based Vita ad filled with information for people who don’t read PSLS enough.

Sadly, the app is still officially only out in Europe, but we found a way for Android users in the US and elsewhere to get their hands on it. The update adds a Vita category and, more importantly, augmented reality:

Once updated and loaded, simply hit the “Tap to discover PS Vita” and hover your camera over a PS logo like the one at the top of the page, and you’ll see something like this:

Scroll along at the bottom and it’ll tell you stuff like this, while spinning the Vita:

The app will also treat you to some game trailers, but unfortunately they aren’t augmented.

The update is a nice gimmick at best, and won’t really tell you anything new, but it’s worth updating just to kill a few minutes.
