Naughty Dog Confirms Multiplayer is Coming to The Last of Us, Not Co-op

The Last of Us will not exclusively be a single-player experience, as game developer Naughty Dog has confirmed that the game will include a non-cooperative multiplayer mode.

If you’ve been holding out hope that a friend could play as Ellie while you choke out your opponents as Joel, Naughty Dog’s Neil Druckmann recently spoke to Gaming Examiner, reiterating that no, there will be no co-op whatsoever in The Last of Us.

That however, doesn’t mean that the entire experience will be void of multiplayer, as an undefined multiplayer option of some sort will be included.

We are supporting multiplayer with The Last of Us. We’re not ready to talk about the details of how multiplayer will be implemented, however we can say that it is not co-op within the main campaign.

While the dev team likely won’t let it compromise the single-player, the gruesome violence seems better suited for an exclusively single-player story-based experience. How do you feel about the addition of multiplayer in The Last of Us? Sound off in the comments below.
