Sony Finally Announces Larger SimulView Screen: 84 Inches of 4K Glory

Back when the original SimulView PlayStation Display was announced, we were all excited by the idea of being able to play splitscreen gaming without actually having to split the screen, but with the display coming in at only 24″ many were disappointed that the feature was wasted on such a small screen. Well, Sony has heard your complaints and is planning to release a far, far bigger SimulView TV that looks so good your eyes might melt.

At a whopping 84″, this bad boy probably won’t even fit in most people’s homes, but at least it’ll give you something to pine over the next time you play the lottery. The ‘KD-84X9005 TV’ isn’t just a big 3D screen – it’s also gorgeous, and instead of having boring old 1080P, it boasts a 4K resolution. That’s 8 million individual pixels (3,840 x 2,160).

With its beautiful, large high-resolution screen and high-quality powerful sound, viewers can enjoy immersive experiences unlike anything offered by existing televisions, as if they were at a live entertainment venue or in a movie theater.

Also packed in is a 50W front-facing, 2-way, 10-Unit speaker system with S-Force Front Surround 3D that simulates 5.1 sound, and a newly-developed XCA8-4K chip that upscales HD.

Sony has yet to announce the price for the TV that’s coming out at the end of the year, although we’re betting that it’ll make the Mars Curiosity expedition look cheap.
