PS4 system update 5.50 beta

PS4 Sales Top 70 Million, Sony Says 130 PSVR Titles in Development

Sony has announced that PlayStation 4 sales have surpassed the 70 million mark as of December 3, 2017. The impressive number of PS4 sales winds up being 70.6 million, and has resulted in over 617.8 million software sales (both physically and digitally). These are incredible numbers, as Sony currently leads the console generation in hardware and software sales.

The Japanese company also gave an update on how PlayStation VR has been doing sales-wise. The virtual reality headset has passed the two million mark in sales, and the library now surpasses over 150 titles. In total, over 12.2 million copies of PSVR games have been sold in both storefronts and digital marketplaces.

“We are delighted that so many people are enjoying the unique entertainment proposition of PlayStation 4 and that an emerging technology like PlayStation VR continues to gain traction,” said Andrew House, Chairman of Sony Interactive Entertainment. “I cannot thank our fans and partners enough. Their support, since the launch of very first PlayStation in 1994, has helped to make PlayStation one of the biggest console gaming network in the world.  We will continue to work closely with partners to maintain this momentum and remain steadfast in making PS4 the best place to play.”

Sony then went on to highlight some of its late 2017 and early 2018 titles that’ll continue the momentum of the current PS4 sales. Sony pointed out strong third-party titles such as Dissidia Final Fantasy NTMonster Hunter: World, and Yakuza Kiwami 2. They also pointed out their own two 2018 first-party titles: God of War and Shadow of the Colossus. On the PlayStation VR front, PlayStation says that over 130 games are currently in development and set to be released by 2018.
