Update:
Rifts are back online.
Original story:
The giant rift in the Fortnite sky may be closing, but a recent bug doesn’t seem related to it. Epic has temporarily disabled use of the rifts, due to this glitch, making it impossible for players to use them. While it doesn’t necessarily impact the game itself, it does take away one of Season 5’s defining features.
The exact nature of the Fortntie rift bug wasn’t made clear, but it was an issue directly addressed by Epic. It made a tweet on August 17, 2018, going over the problem.
Due to a bug with the Rifts, we're temporarily disabling them in all game modes until we have a fix. We'll update you once this is resolved.

Epic has not said when the rifts will return to Fortnite. Hopefully, they return soon, as the developer is planning to remove them for good.
Fortnite is a game that has experienced major glitches before. Epic was forced to remove physics on certain back bling earlier in August 2018, due to a glitch caused by a specific costume combination. In more positive Fortnite news, patch 5.21 arrived on August 15, 2018. It added a new limited time mode and bug fixes.
What do you think about the Fortnite rift glitch? Are you disappointed that they were (temporarily) removed? Let us know!
