Looks like we're still getting it afterall

Just wanted to give everyone a quick heads up on the status of Afrika here in the U.S. Earlier today one of our frequent blog readers and forum users Fersis tipped me to all of this information. It seems that it is indeed still coming to the U.S. The thing is though that it won’t be under the name Afrika. It will titled National Geographic: Africa. There is a thread over on NeoGAF with a mod stating the following:

Confirmed it is Afrika. SCEA won’t provide more info since they aren’t actually publishing it.

Also a link found HERE states that it will infact be released this November, meaning this month. Personally I am looking forward to this title. It is very different from most games that I am used to playing. Can’t wait to get my hands on it. I do wonder what the trophies will be though.

Mirror’s Edge Review

Despite the mixed reviews is it worth it?

Despite the mixed reviews is it worth it?

The first time I saw Mirror’s Edge I thought that it wasn’t a title for me to be honest, but that all changed when the demo was released via PSN a couple weeks back. I have never played a title that was like this. I think that is why it intrigued me so much. The demo alone made it purchase worthy to me. Though I will not deny that when I saw so many negative reviews prior to the launch of the game my confidence in the title was diminished some. But once I actually looked at the reviews a lot of them based the low scores on one main thing, length of the game. Anytime there is a complaint about the length of a game it immediately makes me think of one title that was hurt in the reviews department, Heavenly Sword. A lot of people missed out on it because of the low scores, but in the end Heavenly Sword is one of my all time favorite games from this generation. Mirror’s Edge is becoming that way as well it seems. While I will say this, Mirror’s Edge is not for everyone, and it will not appeal to everyone. But it appealed to me, and in the end I am glad I purchased it. Hopefully this review will help you decide whether or not the title is right for you.

Resistance 2 Review

Do you have what it takes to save Earth?

Do you have what it takes to save Earth?

I am not the biggest first person shooter fan. So for me to enjoy one it has to be pretty good overall. The recent first person shooters that I purchased were of course Resistance: Fall of Man and Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare. Both were fantastic in their own right. The thing is I have always preferred third person over first person view, it’s just a preference of mine. Also with all the great games coming out this season it’s hard to distinguish which title is worthy and which aren’t. Sure it is a great time to be a gamer, but it’s also hurting our wallets. Resistance 2 picks up where Resistance: Fall of Man left off. You are once again in control of the main protagonist, Nathan Hale. The true question at hand though is whether or not Insomniac Games delievered this time around with the much anticipated sequel. Well before you read this entire review I will say this, yes they did, but in a different way. The game impresses in areas, and disappoints in others.

PSLS is now up, feel free to join.

Just to give everyone a heads up that owns the spectacular title Resistance 2, we now have a clan for the site. The name of the clan is PSLS. I tried to make it PlayStationLifeStyle, but they wouldn’t let me because it has the word Playstation in it. If you would like to join just apply and we would be more than happy to have you as apart of the team. To apply to the clan search for “PSLS” under clans and it will come up. You then click “apply to join” and I will let you in.

Fallout 3 Review

Yes the armor is as badass as it looks

Yes the armor is as badass as it looks

Although I did not play the first two Fallout games from the series I still feel that I am more than able to review this game. It stands up on its own considering from the research that I have done it is completely on its own and different from the other two titles that were on the PC. This title reminds me a lot of what Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion was in many ways. But everything that I complained about Oblivion seems to have been revamped or fixed in this title. I’m not saying they are a lot alike, it’s just there are similarities here and there. The one complaint I had about Oblivion was that it was nowhere near a character-driven title. Fallout gives you the ability to make your character be a good guy, bad guy, or neutral (a lot harder than you think). You accomplish this through the various actions that you do throughout the game; even by the way you talk to people. So now that I’m done with the intro of sorts, it’s time for the real review. First I will tell you what I liked, then disliked, and finally wrap it up with whether or not I feel that the title is purchase-worthy.

Are Gamers Being Forgotten?

A while back I wrote an article called “Are Games Regressing?” It was published again during our Greatest Hits celebration. The original publication of this article can be found HERE.

I have been thinking about this long and hard ever since I wrote the article.  I’m not necessarily retracting my statements in that article, because nowadays gaming has become so big that developers almost don’t care it seems. They will rush the product out the door even if it is broken. Haze is one of the most recent titles that comes to mind. It was so hyped up yet in the end it turned out to be another mediocre shooter in an already flooded market of shooters. This brings me to my next point, just because people like shooters does not mean everyone likes shooters. Every time I turn around there seems to be another shooter coming out. The sad part is that most of them flop when taking on juggernauts like Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare or the Halo series. If you can’t outdo those games or even match them for that matter don’t put the game out. In the end it just becomes shovelware or a quickly discounted game.

Expanding The LifeStyle

The Time Has Come To Expand

The time has come to expand. Want to be a part of it?

Hello all, BigPete7978 here. A little while back I started a project called XBoxLifeStyle. It hasn’t been a success to say the least. The reason behind this is because I am ridiculously busy with school, work, and running the forums and GamingLifeStyle. I have very few chances to post articles there. Mainly when I do post it is typically reviews and things along those lines. So I am looking for some quality authors that can step up and a part of the staff/family. There are a couple of guidelines I would like to know in your submissions to me, they can be through PM (on the forums) or email (BigPete7978@playstationlifestyle.net).

On another note we will be hopefully starting up another blog soon under the name of NintendoLifeStyle. We are also accepting applications for this as well. The questions that need to be answered are the same as the XBLS guidelines, and can be found below. If you are interested in this please email admin@playstationlifestyle.net.

These guidelines are:

Upgrade of Forums is Now Complete

Well I finally finished upgrading the forums. There was a major malfunction with the old forums, so there is some bad news. We lost basically everything. I might be able to recover some things here and there. But essentially people need to start from scratch. These forums are no longer phpbb3. There are already mods installed and everything (quick reply ftw). Did I also mention that it is built into gaminglifestyle.net? Please feel free to head on over and join us. I’m sorry to our dedicated users that are losing a lot. I hope this doesn’t affect you staying within our community. We are all starting from scratch here, so consider it turning over a new leaf. But this has taught me something, don’t use phpbb3. So head on over to the new GamingLifeStyle.net and join us. The forums are found at the top with the rest of the links.

NFL Head Coach 09 Review

Is it worth your time this time around?

Is it worth your time this time around?

If anyone remembers NFL Head Coach on the PS2 they will remember how bad it was. The series has such a good premise, but it always seems to come out flawed. So EA Sports decided to give this series one more game to add to it’s short list. Question is did they improve it overall? Well in short the answer is yes, but before you rush out and buy the game you might want to realize it wasn’t by much. So here it is, the review for NFL Head Coach 09 (I suppose the yearly number means they will start making them every year). First I will tell you what I liked, then disliked, and finally follow up with whether you should buy/rent/or stay away from this title. This review is short just to warn most of you all. The game is straight forward. You basically manage every tedious aspect that you could imagine of your team.

Mercenaries 2: World In Flames Review

Do you like blowing stuff up?

How does fully destructible environment sound to you?

What makes open world games so appealing to a gamer? Well in all honesty I think that it’s the fact that you can do whatever you want whenever you want. Factor in a fully destructible environment and I think you will have a huge market of gamers that you will appeal to. So it looks like it is time for another review once again guys, and this time it will be Mercenaries 2. To be completely honest I bought this title solely for a destruction fix I needed. I am also an open world/sandbox game sucker. I just love being able to do whatever I want in a game. So let’s go ahead and get to the review. For those that don’t know the format I will tell you my likes, followed by dislikes, and then at the end I will tell you whether to buy/rent/or stay away.

Greatest Hits Article: Are Games Regressing?

Are Games Regressing Over Time?

Well in celebration of PSLS hitting 1 million hits I figured that I would put up one of my earliest articles that I did when I first starting writing at this blog. It was actually before we even became PSLS, and we were still Sev1512.wordpress.com. So many of our current readers may have missed some of the early articles like these.  So here is my article “Are Games Regressing?” I am posting as is, and it is one of my first articles ever. Enjoy.

P.S.—On a side note after reading through this again though and seeing how some of my views have changed some I may be doing a follow up article in the near future.
