The latest of these collections to be released is The Tomb Raider Trilogy, consisting of the most recent three retail releases in the series, as well as a few extras. But is this really Lara Croft at her finest?

The first game, Tomb Raider: Legend was developer Crystal Dynamics’ first entry into the well-established series. Legend sees Lara Croft getting back to her tomb-raiding roots that made her famous in the first place (aside from her voluptuous exterior). Lara travels across the globe on a quest to find one of the greatest artifacts in history, but ends up finding out that figures from her past have returned to get in her way. A typical adventure story, but it does a great job holding your interested throughout.

Tomb Raider: Legend offers a fantastic blend of platforming and puzzle solving. Throughout the course of the game you’ll have to find creative ways to traverse the terrain; the occasional gun fight is thrown in to keep you on your toes, but completing complex puzzles is required to move on. Boss fights and the now almost-mandatory vehicle stages round out the experience. Your task is to collect various artifacts scattered around each level. Collecting these artifacts and completing levels will unlock a slew of extras including outfits, concept art, character bios and time trials – adding at least some replay value. The time trials themselves will net you a few unlockable cheat codes that you can use in the main story mode or time trials. Things like unlimited ammo, one shot kills and invincibility.

The gameplay has been left untouched from the original release, which feels a bit dated. You can lock onto enemies by pressing and holding the L1 button. The problem with this is that it only works about 75% of the time. The graphics look stunning with their HD facelift, but the audio is a bit off. You will probably end up turning the music volume down as it tends to overpower the character’s voices at times. The camera can be problematic at times, which leads to endless frustration and plenty of untimely deaths. Overall, Tomb Raider: Legend is a great title and starts the trilogy off with a bang, making it a welcome addition for fans of the series.

The second game, Tomb Raider: Anniversary celebrates the tenth anniversary of the series with a remake of the first Tomb Raider, which was originally released on the PSOne. The game starts off in 1945 New Mexico where a nuclear explosion releases a mysterious winged creature. Back in present day, Lara is approached to find an important artifact (she’s always looking for artifacts!) that she once helped her father search for. Her search takes her to the Peruvian Mountains, Greece and Egypt, where she will need to track down all three pieces of the artifact. After collecting all three pieces the artifact is stolen and Lara must track it down and destroy it before it is used for evil purposes.

Tomb Raider: Anniversary has been updated from its original form to incorporate many of the elements that made Legend such a great game – such as a pole swinging element (no, not a stripper pile, get your mind out of the gutter), ledge hopping and updating Lara’s look. The game plays very similar to past installments. Gunfights, platforming and puzzles are standard fare. But it’s all been updated from the PSOne days, topping the original in almost every aspect. The combat does suffer from the same issues as Legend, though, and begins to feel a bit dated at times.

Anniversary is yet another great addition to the trilogy. Crystal Dynamics did a great job at making a ten-year old game feel current, and it still shows in this collection.

Last up is Tomb Raider: Underworld, which is a direct sequel to Tomb Raider: Legend and is the most recent game released in the series. In this game, Lara is searching for a place called Avalon. She will begin her quest in Thailand where she looks to find a missing gauntlet that was hidden by her father. Her journey will lead her to locations all over the globe including Mexico, Jan Mayan Island and the bottom of the Arctic Sea.

The story is exactly what you should come to expect, and is at its core, very similar to past installments. The core gameplay mechanics and level design are also similar, but Underworld at least adds more gunplay and some more complex puzzles. Lara is faster and more agile than previously. It appears that the developers were inspired by more recent titles – like Uncharted – but ultimately, it doesn’t do much to move the franchise forward.

Tomb Raider: Underworld is clearly the best game in the trilogy. The graphics are stunning at times, and the camera has been tweaked, performing better than the previous titles in the trilogy. The only real downside is the lack of DLC that was previously released on the Xbox 360.

The Tomb Raider Trilogy offers a significant value – 3 of the best Tomb Raider titles released, many hours of gameplay, plenty of puzzles to solve, treasures to collect, classic Tomb Raider action and a ton of replay value. The addition of trophy support to Legend and Anniversary is a big plus, as is the fact that a PS3 theme and some PlayStation Home avatars have been included, but it is a disappointment to see the previously released DLC for Underworld not included. The story in all three games, while similar, is excellent and the graphical overhaul makes these older titles look new. The only real downside are the controls and combat system, which feel dated. This is the very best collection available for Tomb Raider fans, or for anyone who wants to learn about Lara Croft and the series.
<table

It features a collection of different sports ranging from Table Tennis to Archery, each of which have their own individual trophies to earn. There are 43 trophies to collect including 30 bronze, 9 silver, 3 gold and 1 platinum.

Living Legend (Platinum) – Congratulations! You are a true CHAMPION.

Earn all other trophies in the game.

I Can Throw A Disc (Bronze) – Win a Disc Golf match in any mode.

Win a game of Disc Golf in any mode.

Ace! (Bronze) – Get a hole-in-one in Disc Golf.

This is easiest to do on the very first hole in the Bronze Cup match against Jackson. Just keep practicing until you get it.

My Aim Is True (Bronze) – Get a score of 5000 or better in Disc Golf Challenge Mode.

Go to Disc Golf and choose Challenge Mode. There will be three stages which will add up to your final score. You will build up a multiplier by not missing the rings. You will want to get your multiplier up near 8x. You should try to aim for around 3000+ points in Stage 1 and around 1,500 points in the final two stages. Remember to keep your Disc level and not to throw it too hard. Release the “T” button when the Move controller is pointing at your target.

Fore! (Bronze) – Toss 20 discs close enough to an opponent in Disc Golf to make them get out of the way in Champion’s Cup.

Choose any match in the Disc Golf Champion’s Cup. Wait for your opponent to take their turn. Once it’s your turn again aim your Disc as close to your opponent as you can using the “Move” button to move you character. Throw your Disc at them and it will cause them to move out of the way. As long as you are always the furthest away, you will get to keep throwing your Disc. You will automatically lose after ten shots so you should be able to get anywhere from 5-10 “Fore!” throws per match. Just rinse and repeat until you get the trophy.

All Too Easy … (Silver) – Shoot a score of -10 or better over the full 18 hole course in Disc Golf.

Get lots of practice in Disc Golf as this will be a challenging trophy. Then go to Free Play and select stroke play. Select “Full Course – 18 Holes”. select 1 player and then choose “No” when it asks if you want to play against a CPU opponent. Play as Giselle. At this point you will be ready to play. You will need to finish the hole in less shots than the Par score for that hole. You can see the par score in the upper right corner of the screen. I would shoot for a score of at least -5 on the first nine holes. If you can get a hole in one that will help out a bunch. You can check your score by pressing “triangle” in between holes. Finish the 18 holes with a score of -10 or better to get the trophy.

I Hit Someone (Bronze) – Win a Gladiator Duel match in any mode.

Win a Gladiator Duel match in any mode.

King Of The Ring (Bronze) – Win 30 matches in Gladiator Duel by knocking your opponent out of the ring in Champion’s Cup.

You don’t actually have to win the match for it to count towards the trophy. You just have to knock your opponent out of the ring during the match. This means that you can earn one “ring out” for every round you play if you knock your opponent out of the ring each time. The fastest way to do this is to play the first match in the Bronze Cup over and over until you get it. Play as Rin and hold up your shield with the “T” button. When you see your opponent is about to swing dodge to the left and swing at the same time. This will cause them to fall down. Then perform a jumping attack while they are on the ground. As soon as they get up, bash them with your shield until you knock them out of the ring.

Man Or Machine? (Bronze) – Get a score of 15,000 or better in Gladiator Duel Challenge Mode.

Go to Gladiator Duel and choose Challenge Mode. Hit the red areas and build your multiplier by hitting your opponent and block or parry sword attacks. There are three rounds which will add up to your total score. You should aim for around 4,000 in round one, around 1,700 in round two and around 4,000 in round three.

Super Parry! (Bronze) – Successfully parry (block using JUST your weapon) a “Super Strike” attempt against all 10 opponents in Gladiator Duel playing in Champion’s Cup.

Choose Gladiator Duel and go to Champion’s Cup. Play as Rin. Skip the first two matches and start with the third match in the Bronze Cup (Belle). While fighting belle make sure you only hit her on her shield. After a few hits on her shield you will give her a “Super Strike”. Her weapon will start flashing blue. When she activates it her weapon will turn solid blue. At this point you should hold your shield up and to the left. You should also hold your sword sideways and wait for her to attack. Her “Super Strike” will fail and you will get credit for successfully performing a “Super Parry”.

Repeat this for the seven remaining matches in the Bronze Cup and then the first two matches in the Silver Cup.

Super Striker! (Silver) – Complete 50 “Super Strikes” in Gladiator Duel playing in Champion’s Cup.

Go to Gladiator Duel and choose Champion’s Cup. This will be easiest to do in the first Bronze Cup. If you play a three round match you should be able to get about 3-4 Super Strikes per round for a total of 9-12 per match. To get a Super Strike you will need to try and block all of your opponents attacks with your sword until you Super Strike meter is full. Blocking with your sword will fill the meter twice as fast as your shield. Once the meter is full then use your Super Strike. Repeat this as many times as you can until the match is over. Then replay the match until you get the trophy.

Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs released this summer alongside the movie with the same name. Like most other movie tie-ins the game follows the plot of the movie. Being based off an animated movie its safe to say that this game is geared towards the younger gamers out there. That being said there is plenty of fun to be had by older gamers as well.

You assume the role of Flint Lockwood, a scientist/inventor looking to create the next great invention. After years of trying, he finally achieves his goal. He invents a machine that converts water into food. Flint then uses this machine to make it rain food down on his home town of Swallow Falls. When things get out of control it’s up to Flint to save the day. Flint is joined by other characters along the way that lend a hand. These characters aren’t really explained all that well so unless you have seen the movie you may not get why they are there.

When you start the game you are greeted with an introduction that kind of resembles an old 8-bit game. This same style is used for all level intros and the ending sequence. Once the opening sequence is over you are given the choice of four levels to play in the first stage. After completing all of the levels in stage one you will be given access to the next stage. There are six stages in all, each with multiple levels to play through. Each level is plagued by different types of foods. One such level is covered in ice cream. You are given a modified blow dryer to melt your way through the level while taking out any enemy in your path and collecting various types of foods.

There are a total of six different inventions that Flint will use throughout his journey. All of them can be upgraded multiple times. You earn upgrades by collecting score bubbles. Once you progress further into the game you will be given more multiple inventions per level. You will be able to switch between them by pressing either L1 or R1.

Flint is controlled by using the left analog stick and you use the X button to jump. Thats it as far as controls go. The game is mostly comprised of simple platforming with no real consequences for dying. You will simply re-spawn in the same location. There are also relatively simple puzzles to solve. These usually involve carrying pieces of food to create steps to access other areas.

Graphics wise this game is on par with other games based off animated movies. Kids will really like this game as it feels like you are playing the movie. The sound is pretty standard for a game like this. The game is not terribly inventive or difficult which falls in line with most movie tie-ins. There is local co-op so you can play with a friend or child if you like. The overall length of the game is rather short and unfortunately there isn’t much replay value here. Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs is a fun game to play if you have kids or really liked the movie.
<table
