
During an investor meeting yesterday, the CEO of Netflix, Reed Hastings broke the news that the company’s plans to offer video games via their DVD distribution service have been canceled.

As the PS3 has passed its 5th year, a number of people have had the misfortune of having to lay to rest their system in an untimely manner. The demon known as the yellow light of death, or YLOD leaves you with a problem that most people never think of. “How do I get my disc out of console that wont turn on?” Well, luckily for you, Sony has included a feature that will cause a YLOD PS3 to eject a disc. Depending on which style of PS3 you own the method may differ as follows.

I know what some of you might be thinking. This is a video games website, so what am I doing posting about an upcoming anime? Well, Persona 4 was a widely popular role-playing game for the PlayStation 2 that has now spawned an anime based off of it, so in a way it is gaming related, so there! Reed Hastings, Co-Founder and CEO of Netflix recently unveiled some pretty big changes coming to the massively popular video streaming service. In addition to apologizing for the new pricing scheme that upset many of their customers, Hastings unveiled a new mail-based service called Qwikster that will take the place Netflix’s DVD mail service and include video games.

For the first few years following its public release, the Blu-ray format was shrugged by many due to its high cost and somewhat unnecessary storage size. .hack//The Movie has been announced today and is set to release next year in theaters and then on Blu-ray, with a nice little bonus.

Sony and LG haven’t been on the best of terms lately, with patent disputes serving as the major reason for conflict between the two companies. The issues involve smartphone, TV and Blu-ray technology, but since have been remedied through a newly formed cross-licensing deal.

After last week’s reveal of the box art for Resistance 3, the game’s release date of September 6th became a date circled on the calendar of many PlayStation 3 owners. Judging solely by the previews and information readily available for L.A. Noire prior to its release, it’s easy to point at the title and call it a technological evolution for the gaming industry. The believable animations, quantity of detailed characters, and high-quality rendition of 1947 Los Angeles was enough to spark strong interest from Hideo Kojima among others. Funimation, the distributor of animes such as Fullmetal Alchemist, Darker than Black, and Dragon Ball Z has grabbed the rights to localize the Tales of Vesperia movie, titled The First Strike in North America. This might not be the news some PS3 owners wanted to hear about the game, but at least it’s a start.

Mortal Kombat has remained one of our most anticipated releases since E3 last year, and rightfully so. It will mark the first time in over a decade that the series has played on a classic 2D plane, similar to Street Fighter IV‘s successful return to the seemingly ancient arcade days. Star Wars is easily one of the most recognizable franchises in history, and many have been waiting for a blu-ray release for the titles. CES 2011 made that finally happen, and those waiting only have a bit longer to wait.

A 3D TV may not be on everyone’s Christmas list. Not because they don’t want one, but because they can’t afford one. It’s just too expensive. Thanks to a special pre-holiday sale, it doesn’t have to be. A free PS3 added to the mix sure doesn’t hurt it any either.
