
Ready at Dawn, the developer behind the highly rated God of War PSP titles and the Wii port of Okami is allegedly working on a game for next generation hardware.

Sony has made it pretty clear that they don’t plan to rush into the next generation, stating time and time again that the PlayStation 4 will not be shown or discussed for at least another year. CEO of SCEA Jack Tretton has gone on to reinforce Sony’s prior claims that nothing next-gen related is currently a priority for the company.

Valve’s Gabe Newell has grown quite frustrated with the closed console structure of the PlayStation and Xbox platforms, and has often spoken out about the problems of closed systems. As we approach the next generation, Newell has pointed out the importance for both Sony and Microsoft to embrace change, and the ramifications of failing to do so.

It’s no secret that the Kinect is outselling the PlayStation Move by quite a fair margin, so Sony may be looking to come out with their own Kinect competitor that can actually sense depth and track subtle movements where the PS Eye cannot. A newly published patent has revealed that the company has begun work on a new 3D camera that could potentially be a part of the PlayStation 4.

Despite being one of the best publishers in the industry, and managing to bring out critical hit after critical hit, Sony has failed to produce huge chart-topping games like Gears of War and Halo. Outside of Gran Turismo, Sony’s IPs have yet to hit the big time, partially due to poor marketing – something that Sony’s Worldwide Studios President has taken notice of.

As technology continues to advance, so does the demand for bigger budget games, and along with that comes a higher price point. The CEO of mobile developer Addmired discussed this trend, pointing out its ability to fuel the free-to-play market.
