Since becoming a fan-favorite in 1986, Konami’s Castlevania series has had quite the journey through the ages. It’s had the Good (Super Castlevania IV), the bad (Castlevania: Judgement) and THE Masterpiece (Symphony of the Night. Need I say more?). While the series has mastered the realm of 2D artwork and sprites, the series battles in the world of 3D have almost always been failures and major disappointments in the eyes of fans. Konami looks to change this with Castlevania: Lords of Shadows, with little known developer MercurySteam handling the development duties and some team production company named ‘Kojima Productions’ helping supervising along the way. PlayStation LifeStyle’s review for this ‘rebirth’ is finished. Did Konami finally make an AAA quality 3D Castlevania game or is this yet another stumble along the way?
Many PS3 users have been reporting frustration and anger over Castlevania: Lords of Shadow, and it’s not over the difficulty of the game either. Some nasty bug has crept its way onto the release copy of this action-adventure game, causing their save files to spontaneously corrupt.
It’s hard to believe that it is already the month of October. Before we know it, with the help of some of these week’s releases, it will be January 2011 in the blink of an eye. This week takes us to the west while bringing in a treat from the east by a renowned Japanese developer.

The Castlevania revamp from Mercury Steam in association with Kojima Productions is nearing its October 5th landmark release. Creeping out from behind the shadows is a deal on the upcoming game that would make the entire Belmont family ‘whip’ their heads around to do a double take on.
When Lords of Shadow was originally introduced briefly by Konami in 2008, no one knew what to think about it. Truth is, Konami had planned for LOS to be the new, radically different Castlevania reboot all along, but wanted to keep it a major secret, which is hard to do nowadays with internet(s). Boy howdy was the gaming world in shock when LOS turned out to be the new game and the fact that Hideo Kojima Productions and Kojima Productions were helping supervise the game, it immediately became a triple-A title. And like any other major release, it’s going to be receiving a Collector’s Edition, which hasn’t officially announced, but has been outed by many gaming sites. Whiplash your way inside for the details.
The Castlevania series, created by Japan-based Konami, the series has a unique Japanese feel to it, unlike many games on the market. This is going to change, according to a Konami representative.
With initial impressions of Konami’s Castlevania: Lords of Shadow from developers Kojima Productions and Mercury Steam on the ‘up and up’, the hype train for the game is chugging along rather nicely. Bits of details are being let out and one of the more interesting is the fact that C: LOS was almost a remake of the original 8-Bit Castlevania. Find out why this didn’t happen inside.
Mercury Steam looks to successfully translate the mostly 2D world of Castlevania to the 3D this fall with Castlevania: Lords of Shadow. Konami recently showed the title off to a select group of the press and the news and reception has been overwhelmingly positive so far. The first 3D Castlevania to make fans of the series proud might just be Lords of Shadow.
MercurySteam and Kojima Productions goal with Castlevania: Lords of Shadow is to successfully translate the 2D world of Castlevania into 3D. It’s been attempted before, but to less than average results. From the look of these newest screenshots, it seems that the teams will finally do the series justice in the realm of 3D.
