MAG’s Deployment Hits a Snag

It was only a week ago when both GameFly and Gamestop’s websites had Zipper Interactive’s PS3 title MAG, a.k.a. Massive Action Game, listed for a November 24th release this year. And it made perfect sense, since Sony had previously announced the title was coming in the Fall of 2009. However, it looks like they may be polishing up the title a little more than expected.

If you’ve been shopping online lately, you may seen that the release of MAG (Massive Action Game) has changed to January 2010. This tentative change may be pushed back even further, depending on the types of games Sony has lined up for early 2010, such as God of War 3.

PS3 Slim Found in Phillipines Shop

Yes, merely the title alone makes you believe that this is obviously fake. A new PlayStation 3 Slim, found in an underground Phillipines market? Sounds incredibly dodgy, but wait till you see this. A video was filmed in the shop, and it shows the man checking out this console.

As you can see from the video, this “PS3 Slim” is very similar to past photos that were taken. Information on the system was obtained, and here are the details:

- This PS3 Slim contains a 120GB HDD.
- It has two USB ports.
- The touch sensitive buttons are gone, and now seem to be replaced by regular buttons.
- The PS icon is white, instead of its usual colors.
- No card reader.
- PLAYSTATION 3 logo is gone, and instead is replaced with just PS3.
- The man selling it included it with a Dualshock 3 controller. Whether or not it was compatible is unknown.
- It was being sold for 20, 000 pesos. This can be converted to £250, or $410.

Of course, this could be fake. As of now, it could be simply a new Polystation knockoff found in the Phillipines, so we’ll categorize this under “Rumor”. The PS3 Slim was originally going to be announced at E3 2009, but rumors have now suggested that it will make its long awaited appearance at the Tokyo Game Show in Japan.

Heavy Rain Not In The Near Forecast

David Cage, founder of Quantic Dream, the team behind the highly anticipated Heavy Rain, recently stressed in an interview that his team will only release the game when they believe it is completely finished. As a result, it seems as though the release is a ways down the road.

“We’re still at the alpha stage and there’s a whole lot of work to be done. There’s so much fine-tuning in the game left to do. Everything has to be perfect. If there’s one thing wrong in a scene, it’s the only thing you’ll see. There are many things that don’t work right now.
“We need to have everything in place, from facial animations, to score to work out the final result.”

What is interesting to note is, according to the PlayStation LifeStyle E3 team, they were told that the game, at the time, was roughly 75% completed. Stick with PlayStation LifeStyle as we keep you updated on Heavy Rain.

Bayonetta Director Talks Boobs and Sexiness

Hideki Kamiya, director for the upcoming action/hack-n-slash game Bayonetta, is no stranger to creating legendary characters. His past works include Leon Kennedy (Resident Evil) and Dante, among other notables. However, Bayonetta is unique in that it is Kamiya’s first attempt to fully create a female lead character.

In Kamiya’s eyes, “A lot of games have female characters with big boobs and show a lot of cleavage. That’s not my personal preference or my personal taste. That’s not very sexy at all.” During E3, Kamiya described various touches he has made to the game to accent certain aspects of Bayonetta’s sexuality and femininity, while apparently not over-emphasizing it. For example, when she is locking on to a target the crosshair is a lipstick mark, and when Bayonetta double-jumps pastel butterfly wings appear onscreen. While Kamiya claims that “normal size is more than adequate. Being sexual in a mysterious sort of way is more sexy than baring it all,” the fact that Bayonetta uses her hair as an outfit that comes off when she uses powerful magic attacks seems a little contradictory…

Sega Promises The Aliens Are Coming

If you are wondering why Sega did not share any information about their two upcoming games, Aliens: Colonial Marines and the Aliens RPG at this years E3, don’t worry, Sega understands your frustration, and has an answer for you.

“Aliens vs. Predator will be the first to ship out of our triplet of Aliens titles; hence it was shown at this year’s E3. We’ll have more news to share about the other two games in the near future so stay tuned.”

Aliens: Colonial Marines is being penciled in for a 2010 release. No word yet on any kind of release information for the Aliens RPG.

Sony Initiated Motion Controller Craze

During this years E3 press conference, Sony showcased their prototype motion controller. Many accused Sony of jumping on the motion controller bandwagon; following the success of the Nintendo Wii controller, and the announcement of Microsoft’s Project Natal.

However, about a year ago, when Sony was demonstrating the EyeToy’s abilities, the following technical video was created. As you can tell, the concepts shown in the video are highly reminiscent of the techniques used in both Sony’s and Microsoft’s demonstrations.

Castlevania Rises Out of the Shadows with Astounding New Gameplay Trailer

Castlevania: Lords of Shadow is the newest game from MercurySteam Entertainment and Konami, and the PSLS staff recieved a very pleasant surprise during the Konami Press Conference last Wednesday. Hideo Kojima was onstage to present this title, for which he had teased millions of gamers with an ominous looking mask on his website.

Lords of Shadow is a collaborative effort between MercurySteam and Kojima Productions, for which Kojima is acting as director/overseer. And as you can see in press conference footage, his midas touch is ever so present in almost every aspect of the title. Check out the gameplay trailer below and let us know what you think!

Sony Executive Loves ‘Rebirth’ of E3

In a recent interview, newly established SCEE CEO Andrew House talks adamantly talks about the ‘rebirth’ of this year’s E3 convention.

“I think you get a singular opportunity to have the press and everybody else focus on our industry for a week in LA – one of the entertainment capitals of the world.
That’s pretty priceless. As soon as you took emphasis away from that we lost an opportunity to reach the media and by extension broaden our appeal as an industry as a whole, so I’m very glad it’s back. It’s absolutely worth the collective investment we put into it.”

Of course, when House refers to E3 being “back”, he is talking about the changes the ESA instituted. Last year’s E3 was often criticized for being being drastically smaller in scale, as well as lot emptier. This year’s E3, on the other hand, opened up a bit, allowing in far more attendees.

Critter Crunch Devoured E3

A few weeks ago, we reported on an odd game called Critter Crunch. At the time, and even now, the game is hard to put into words. Quite simply, the main objective of the game is for your character to feed small critters to bigger critters, until they burst. The game will feature feature local singleplayer and co-op, as well as 2-player online versus modes.
