PlayStation Plus EU Update Includes All Fallout 3 DLC For Free, Exclusive Demos

It seems that PlayStation Plus is finally starting to deliver some worthwhile content. SCEE has now announced the latest update will include all Fallout 3 downloadable content packs and more.

As stated on the European PlayStation Blog, the company said PlayStation Plus subscribers were unhappy with the lack of game add-on packs included in the last update for the PlayStation Network premium service. In response to this SCEE has announced all the current downloadable content packs for Bethesda Softworks’ Fallout 3 will be available free of charge.

The following listed packs will be in the PlayStation Plus section of the PlayStation Store for one week only, from the following dates:

13 October:

Fallout 3: Point Lookout
Fallout 3: Mothership Zeta
Fallout 3: Operation: Anchorage

20 October:

Fallout 3: Broken Steel
Fallout 3: The Pitt (Review)

Additionally, an exclusive multiplayer demo of Split/Second: Velocity for PlayStation Plus members will become available from the PlayStation Plus section of Store. Alternatively, it can be downloaded for you via Plus’ automatic download option. Finally, Sony has confirmed that the theme needed to gain access to Killzone 3‘s public beta will go live for Plus members at 8pm in the UK, 9pm CET and 6am in Sydney, Australia tomorrow. The first 10,000 Plus subscribers who manage to download the theme should expect an email in the following weeks.

Fallout: New Vegas Collector’s Edition Radiating Goodies

Fallout: New Vegas, a spin-off of the apocalyptic RPG Fallout 3,is due out this fall. A collector’s edition has recently been announced, and it may be worth trading up for. Find out what this edition contains after the break!

Contained within a lovely box made to look beaten up, you’ll find:

“Lucky 7″ poker chips. Each of the seven poker chips was designed to represent chips from the major casinos found on the New Vegas strip and throughout the Mojave Wasteland.

Yet another dreadful work week has passed, and with that, us gamers like to kick back and unwind by popping our favorite games into our favorite console. We here at PlayStation LifeStyle are no different. Find out what the PSLS staff will be playing this weekend, and share your very own weekend gaming playlist.

I can start as always. My name is Cameron Teague and I am a Contributing Editor here at PSLS. This weekend is a bit slow in the gaming department but I have a few to play. Still playing my way through God of War III and NHL 10 but going to spend most of my time knocking out a Nier review. If gamefly gets it to me in time, I will start my other review for Harvest Moon: Hero of Leaf Valley.

Now lets see just what the rest of the staff plans to be playing this weekend.

I’ll be finishing my review of Hysteria Project.
Josh Fernandes
I am going to pick up the uncharted dlc and play that all weekend, or at least until I rage quit from being choked by those ninjas all the time. I’ve had my back up against a wall and yet a ninja manages to get behind me and choke me. I’ll also be working on my new borderlands character (lvl. 29!). Of course, I’m playing with Mordecai. Being able to kill enemies with one shot of your sniper makes you feel like such a badass in that game. I played online with a guy who had a Brick character that had an rpg that shot out giant electrical nuclear bombs. He killed everything in one hit, but you could never see what was going on. That’s nowhere near as fun as seeing a guy run toward you, and then see the figure slump over into the ground. Also, playing with sirens annoy me. they always activate phase shift and run far ahead of me, leaving me all alone. If any of you readers play as sirens, just know that ditching your partners is not cool!

This weekend, I will be indulging in Blue Toad Murder Files, which I am really excited for. Other than that, perhaps a Fallout 3 session will be in the works.

I’ve started a new RTTS Pitcher in MLB 10: The Show so I will be muddling through his minor league career this weekend in hopes of getting called up.

I’m leaving for an EA Canada skate 3 event on Sunday morning (expect coverage!), so I’m not going to have a ton of time for gaming this weekend. But I’ll probably play some GTA IV: The Ballad of Gay Tony and Afterburner Climax. My PSP shall see ModNation Racing, LittleBigPlanet and probably little else!
Sebastian Moss
This weekend I’ll be trying to learn freakishly long combos in
Super Street Fighter 4, trying to speed up my brain to understand Afterburner Climax, and finally finishing off GTA IV
Thomas Williams
I’ll be playing plenty of Super Street Fighter IV or as I like to call it, ‘getting my ass kicked online’.

Bethesda Drops Lawsuit on Fallout Creator Interplay

The battle for Fallout began back in October 2009, when Fallout 3 developer Bethesda filed a lawsuit against the creator of the franchise, Interplay. The lawsuit was filed for the rights to both the unannounced Fallout MMO title and the original Fallout games. Interplay, however, decided to fire back, saying that Bethesda was in breach of contract, and that the contract to sell the rights to the Fallout series was now null and void. We have not heard much since both lawsuits were filed, but the newest information certainly makes up for the downtime.

Duck And Cover has reported that Bethesda has backed out of the court battle, and that the lawsuit against Interplay has been dropped. Interplay, however, will not be going down easily, as they have gone ahead with their countersuit against the Elder Scrolls creator. Interplay lawyers have complained that Bethesda carried out the lawsuit against the company to worsen their “negative financial situation.”

With the Bethesda lawsuit dropped, Interplay can now continue work on their Fallout MMO, rumored to be titled Project V-13.

March is almost over and it has been a great month for games. With Yakuza 3, Final Fantasy XIII, Battlefield: Bad Company 2, God of War III, MLB 10: The Show, Mega Man 10, and Just Cause 2 releasing this month, we have all been very busy this month playing games. Here’s what everyone will be playing the last week of such a busy month.

Anthony Severino – Editor in Chief

Ill be getting hands on time with PlayStation Move games, Red Dead Redemption, and whatever else is at PAX East. Look for hands on previews coming all weekend.

Joseph Peterson – Forum Administrator

I will be causing chaos in Just Cause 2, which has turned out to be my next gen San Andreas. Along with a little God of War III and White Knight Chronicles on the side.

Jonathan Leack – Editor

I’m playing God of War III on Titan Mode and trying to earn the platinum trophy. I gotta say that I absolutely love this game and can’t put it down. I might also hop on Battlefield: Bad Company 2 for some online fun.

Josh Fernandes – Social Media Manager

I will be finishing up Just Cause 2 and writing the review for it. Once I’m done with that, I’ll try to work toward completing the game 100%. There are so many collectibles in the game, I’ll probably be working towards 100% completion for weeks. My PS3 shall see the end of GoW III, double XP on MAG, some LBP with those Sonic costumes, Battlefield BC2, and maybe some Red Faction: Guerrilla since I picked that up for $7. I’ll also be playing MLB 10: The Show on my PSP (review coming soon!). Too many games, not enough time!

I may pickup Just Cause 2, it looks like lots of fun. I still have to finish my God of War III – Challange of the Titans, and perhaps grab the few last screen shots for my God of War III – Treasure Guide. Definitely will check out the MAG DLC and maybe a little Battlefield: Bad Company 2. I still have another run through Dante’s to finish, but he hasn’t received much attention since Kratos arrived. My backlog grows!

Ryan Ordway – Technology Systems

I’m going to try to claw my way through Titan mode on GoW3 this weekend, then get back to some Ratchet and Clank: ACiT. I will probably also kick the tires of the new MAG trooper kit, I love the Raven APEX so I’m intrigued by the tweaked APEX. And it goes without saying there will be more MW2 and Monster Hunter Freedom Unite.

Thomas Williams – Author

My weekend will consist of finishing up my Resonance of Fate review and then working on my Sonic and Sega All-Star Racing review. Plus a little bit of God of War III and Final Fantasy XIII thrown-in for good measure. Just don’t tell Cameron, ok?

Yet another busy weekend for gaming. Firstly, I’ll be continuing to destroy the Gods in God of War III. Taking it to new heights with Wakeboarding HD. A dose of FIFA 10 and then reliving Snake’s epic adventure in MGS4.

Fallout: New Vegas Will be a Long Journey

Even though the game was released well over a year ago, gamers are still enjoying Fallout 3 and the DLC that Bethesda has created for the game. However, Bethesda is already hard at work, developing a successor: Fallout : New Vegas. New Vegas will have the familiar feel of a Fallout game, but it will be an “entirely new game and a new look”. In a recent interview with USA Today, Bethesda’s Pete Hines gave a bit of a backdrop to New Vegas, and every bit got us here at PSLS even more excited.

In the interview, Hines revealed that the game will take “hundreds of hours to explore every nook and cranny.” This certainly has some backing, seeing how Bethesda has a track record of creating entire game universes that could be played for a long time.

“Unlike the previous Fallouts, where you start in a vault and you are a vault dweller, this one starts with a curve ball. You were a courier, and you were obviously carrying something that somebody wanted. Part of the story is finding out what you had and what they took. [The game] has a brand new, fresh experience that has a familiar feel of Fallout, but otherwise it’s an entirely new game and a new look, with Joshua trees and tumbleweeds and blue skies.
“Vegas is up and running. It is not a ghost town. It still exists and thrives. There are casinos, and you can go down onto the Strip. It will have a very different feel from that standpoint.
“It is a massive game world that will take you hundreds of hours to explore every nook and cranny.”

More information regarding Fallout : New Vegas will be in the April issue of PC Gamer, which will hit store shelves March 2nd.

The list sees the Warden’s Keep DLC for Dragon Age: Origins retain the top spot, while newcomer Braid takes the number 3 spot. For the first week in a long time Fallout 3 DLC is out of the top 10, though Call of Duty keeps 3 DLC packs in there with the recent release of MW2 certainty helping to push the Call of Duty name. PS3 Review – Fallout 3: The Pitt

The second DLC pack from the world of Fallout 3, The Pitt, may have been one of the most interesting of the five DLC packs. The downloadable content is set in a destroyed Pittsburgh plagued with disease and awful creatures. Does the DLC rise above the rest? Or does it does it fall into the pit?
Simply put, The Pitt is the worst of the DLC available. The Pitt is set in a gloomy, devastated city, and it certainly sets the mood for the player. Characters in this optional add-on pack were awful, from monotone to just plain boring. Only a few characters manage to stand out, while others feel like robots. The DLC does add some new stuff, but not much. There is a new enemy that can be easily taken care of, and a new weapon that isn’t much different from another.
The plot is interesting, at least. The Pitt is filled with slaves which the player can either choose to save, or not. The story develops into a that of a disease which is taking over The Pitt. Players will find that the cure takes a surprising form, and may find themselves unsure of what to do when they find it.
The sound is alright, giving off an industrial, junkyard feel. There are the sounds of blades against steel, etc. Voice acting is stiff and robotic, like most of the voice work in Fallout 3. Most characters do not feel alive at all.
The add-on is incredibly short as well, and it takes only about 2 hours to run through it. There are only three important quests to do. Compared to the other DLC, the time spent here seems quite wasted.

Fallout 3′s Price Gets Nuked

Even though Fallout 3 was released just about one year ago on October 28, 2009, interest surrounding the game is at an all-time high thanks to a plethora of add-on DLC, and a Game of the Year re-release. To help clear out remaining stock of the original, non-GOTY edition of Fallout 3, one major online retailer has given the critically acclaimed game an atomic price drop.
As part of Amazon.com’s Deal of the Day, Fallout 3′s price has been reduced to $19.98. Although if you want the entire Fallout 3 experience, DLC and all. You’re best bet is to just go ahead and pick up the Game of the Year Edition for $56.99 as it comes with all the DLC on the disc.
There are 5 DLC packs available for Fallout 3 in total, each one priced at $9.99. Add each one to the price of the original version of Fallout 3, and you can plainly see the better deal is the Game of the Year Edition.
However if you haven’t tried Fallout 3 yet, and aren’t even sure you want to play the addition content, then today’s deal is for you.

The Battle for Fallout Rights Ensues

In all started in 2004, when Bethesda first acquired the Fallout rights, many fans of the series turned away. Time grew, and Fallout 3 was eventually released to the masses on October 23rd, 2008. However, the series original creator Interplay, and Bethesda are not so friendly. Bethesda recently filed a lawsuit against Interplay, for the rights of both Fallout Online and the original titles.
But Interplay has struck back, with a countersuit in reaction to the lawsuit filed by Bethesda. Interplay says that the company is in breach of contract, and that the contract to sell the rights to the Fallout series is both null and void. Interplay has also stated that they own the franchise once again.
On the Raging Bull Stockholder forum, a stockholder from Interplay posted the following on the counter suit:
“Interplay argued that they purposefully retained the rights to the original Fallout games when selling the Fallout license to Bethesda knowing full well (as did Bethesda) that Interplay was going to exploit the original Fallout games upon release of Fallout 3. Why would Interplay keep the original Fallout rights and sell Fallout for so cheap unless this was built in as part of the package deal? The original Fallout games are only worth something in relation to sales generated from the release of FAllout 3. Therefore, Interplay did not harm Bethesda in any way by selling the original Fallout games. Interplay has a right per this deal to exploit the original Fallout games and to not see this as unfair competition with Bethesda. Also, Bethesda under their initial agreement did not have any rights to determine how Interplay chose to exploit selling their Fallout games. Bethesda had the right to inspect promotional material/marketing that Interplay used with their original games ONLY to make sure that Interplay wasn’t unfairly trying to confuse their game with Interplay’s. However, a key component of that provision was that Bethesda could not UNREASONABLY WITHOLD their approval, which Bethesda seems to be doing in this case. Most importantly, however, Interplay did not produce any promotional material or marketing for their Fallout games, which is the only statement that is made in the original agreement (the original agreement regarding the original Fallout games only covered marketing and promotional material, of which Interplay had none. None of the other complaints that Bethesda made against Interplay were a part of the original contract, and are thus null and void). Interplay sold the original Fallout games with very little in the way of packaging materials (a very basic instruction manual), and Interplay did not spend any money on marketing, which can be verified in their 10-K. I remember saying how odd it was that Interplay suddenly had a statement on their website that they were selling Fallout games at Best Buy and that there was no promotional material or marketing for this. Interplay was simply complying with the contract. It all makes perfect sense now in hindsight.
