Four New Street Fighter X Tekken Characters Revealed

Street Fighter X Tekken has really been keeping fighting game fans pining for its release ever since its announcement at Comic-Con 2010. While plenty of information regarding the crossover title has been released, not all the characters set to appear on the roster have been revealed. However, fresh from gamescom, a new trailer has been released, showing four new fighters.

The new trailer, which is over four minutes in length, begins by showing off some of the new moves you can perform when playing on a team. Following that, six characters were showcased, four of which were shown for the first time. First up, Hugo from the Street Fighter universe. Next is Poison from Street Fighter as well, a character who had already been confirmed. Newly revealed from Street Fighter, as well, is Raven. Yoshimitsu from Tekken enters the fray after, followed by Ibuki from Street Fighter. Last, but certainly not least, is the reveal of Kuma from the Tekken world. Borderlands 2 Loots gamescom, Leaves Behind Teaser Trailer

Just weeks after it was originally announced, 2k Games has released the world premier teaser for Borderlands 2, which introduces new character Salvador, who uses a dual-wielding ability to take on any beasts he comes across in Pandora.

According to 2K Games, the very first screenshots of the game will appear this Wednesday, following the game’s showing at gamescom. Check out the teaser below and prep for Wednesday’s screenshots.

News has been fairly steady on Borderlands 2 since it was announced, with Gearbox stating that missions will be “three times bigger in scope.” The game is said to feature all new characters, skills, environments, enemies, weapons, and equipment. Hopefully the game will be supported with plenty of downloadable content, just like the original game was, which featured four different installments of DLC.

All PS Vita Games Will Be Available Digitally on PS Store

One of the biggest issues with the PSP Go when it was announced was the fact that not every game was supported digitally, splitting their market and forcing people to own both a PSP and Go to play every game. It looks like Sony has learned their lesson and announced that all Vita games will be available through the PS Store.

Sony Computer Entertainment Europe CEO Jim Ryan confirmed during the Sony gamescom 2011 conference that every single game for the new handheld could be purchased either through the store or a retail format.

Sony has already confirmed the retail format, which will come in a 2GB or 4GB size, with the lesser being available for smaller games and the bigger for, well, bigger games. This is a huge improvement to UMDs, which were 1.8GB in size, and wasted a lot of battery power. The format will also save 5-10% on the physical media for game saves and patches, taking away some of the stress from the Vita.

This is a great move by Sony to satisfy both retail and digital gamers – now where is the release date?

Sony to Stream gamescom Press Conference Through Home

That’s right gamers! Get ready to fire up Home after what has likely been months, because Sony will be live streaming their press conference from gamescom on August 16th.

According to the PS Blog, the gamescom space within Home will officially go live that day at 5pm CET (11am EST / 8am PST) and will also pop up in the “What’s New” section of the XBM at that time. The conference itself doesn’t start until 7pm CET (1pm EST / 10am PST) and lasts for an hour, so be sure to tune in then to see what surprises Sony has in store.

With rumors swirling around the web regarding a PS3 price drop, a firm Vita release date and game reveals, this is one conference you won’t want to miss. While Sony hasn’t shared many more details beyond the fact that the conference can be streamed via Home, expect to be able to view the conference through other online outlets as well, as well as being able to follow live coverage right here.

Mass Effect 3 Will Be Played With Friends

The old days when a single-player experience could carry you through multiple games in a series seem to be passing us by, as one of the best single-player game series in recent memory will have multiplayer the third time around. Yes that’s right, Mass Effect 3 will feature some form of multiplayer.

This has been confirmed via the latest issue of Xbox World 360 Magazine, which has a feature on the multiplayer mode to be featured in Mass Effect 3. This mode will make its debut at gamescom later this month and will be playable at two UK trade shows in September.

Your guess is as good as ours on what this multiplayer mode could be, but some form of online/offline co-op would be very cool. What kind of mode do you, our readers, think the game should feature? Let us know in the comments along with how you feel about this series taking things multiplayer.

Assassin’s Creed Brotherhood Video Walkthrough

Famed developer and publisher, Ubisoft has released a walkthrough video of their forthcoming multiplayer-focused title, Assassin’s Creed Brotherhood. The footage, which was taken at gamescom, shows everything fans can expect from the platformer once it’s released this November.

The game’s Collector’s Edition was recently detailed and here’s what it includes:

Bulletstorm gamescom Developer Commentary Footage

Epic Games and Electronic Arts have released a walkthrough of the gamescom Bulletstorm demo, which features developer commentary from Tanya Jessen, Producer at Epic Games.

Players step into the role of the game’s protoginist, Grayson Hunt, who is equipped with an arsenal of “over-the-top combat moves and outrageously large guns.” The game will also feature ’skillshots’; a gameplay element which produces unprecedented levels of frantic gameplay and satisfaction. The skillshot system rewards players for causing mayhem in the most creative way possible. Bulletstorm is currently scheduled for a February 22nd, 2011 release.

Splatterhouse Lives up to Its Name in gamescom Trailer

Splatterhouse is an update of the original gory-filled arcade beat-’em-up released in 1988. Namco Bandai’s efforts to retain the original game’s qualities are clearly showcased in the titles’ gamescom trailer. As seen in the trailer, it shows gameplay footage of the classic and cleverly compares it to the forthcoming Splatterhouse title. Check it out after the break.

In Splatterhouse players will learn how to harness and focus the juggernaut power of Rick in order to perform countless brutal attacks and stop his relentless opponents from gaining the upper hand. The dynamic combat system will see Rick performing bone-smashing combos and grapples and much more. Splatterhouse is currently scheduled for an appropriate release date during Haloween on October 26th.

More Unannounced PS3 Exclusives Sony Has ‘Yet to Share’

Sony is no stranger to blockbuster first-party titles. Some of the best and most unique games this generation have come from Sony’s first-party developers. Titles like Uncharted 2, LittleBigPlanet, even downloadable titles like Flower continue to raise the bar across the gaming industry. The company’s upcoming first-party line-up is packed with major releases such as Twisted Metal, the recently announced Resistance 3, inFamous 2 and Killzone 3 to name but a few. However, during Sony’s gamescom press conference, Andrew House revealed they still have more unannounced titles on the way.

Andrew House current president, CEO and CFO of Sony Computer Entertainment Europe said the following:

“We’ve heard from Resistance 3 and Ratchet and Clank All 4 One, along side games such as inFamous 2, Sorcery, GT5, Killzone 3, and a few more we’ve yet to share… this is going to be a stellar year for PlayStation”

A stellar year indeed. What ever the unannounced games House is talking about is anybody’s guess. Pretty much everything a PlayStation owner could hope for has, arguably, already been announced. Valve Says PS3 is “Incredibly Important” to Them

Valve, namely Gabe Newell, have been dismissing the PlayStation 3 for a long time now. During E3, Newell came out and apologized for his numerous remarks on the console and announced Portal 2 for Sony’s system. Now, the developer has said the PlayStation 3 is incredibly important to them.

Speaking during gamescom, Project Manager Erik Johnson told CVG that Valve’s looking to rectify all the mistakes they’ve made in the past on the PS3 with The Orange Box.

“PS3 is incredibly important to us. We don’t feel that the PS3 users had the Valve experience that we like to deliver. So it that case it’s incredibly important to us; we kind of fix everything wrong in the products that we delivered before for the PS3, which we thought were good but weren’t quite the Valve experience.”
We’re looking forward to solving that and having Steam on that platform also is incredibly valuable to us,” he said. In a lot of ways that is the way we define a customer having a good experience because it’s the way that we keep talking to that customer over time.”

Johnson also stated that numerous PlayStation 3 veteran developers are working on the console for Valve. The developer’s next title, Portal 2, is currently scheduled for a release on February 9th, 2011.

GT5 Takes Top Honors at Gamescom While Move Trounces Kinect

Sony certainly brought their A-game when to comes to Gamescom domination, as they not only brought the goods game-wise, but managed to acquire a major title which was previously exclusive to the 360, show that the PlayStation Move is the ideal motion controller for the hardcore gamer, and rack up the conference’s highest honors in the process.

Gran Turismo 5 was the standout title of the show, taking home top honors as best console game. It looks like the wait will be worth it, as Kazunori Yamauchi’s masterpiece revs its engine in anticipation, still shocking critics and, more recently, judges, around the world. With a racing title that includes quite literally every aspect of racing, it’s no surprise that Gran Turismo 5 came out on top.

Next was another big winner, perhaps shocking to some while obvious to others, and that was the victory for PlayStation Move over Microsoft’s Kinect in the hardware accessories category. It was clear from the get-go that this was Sony’s last chance to make the peripheral shine before it releases early next month, and they certainly didn’t disappoint. Move was heavily promoted and demoed all throughout the Gamescom showfloor, in addition to being included in the Gamescom PlayStation Home space. Could this be a sign that critics and consumers are starting to see just what the Move is capable of? We think so. But this is only the first step, as the main ingredient to the mix will be the games and, based on what Sony has shown thus far, it certainly looks like we won’t have a problem in that department.

Sony has gone in and come out of this year’s Gamesom with more momentum than any of us could have imagined, and based on the big titles slated for release over the next few months, it looks like the momentum is going to continue for quite some time. Deus Ex: Human Revolution DLC Confirmed

Do you find it a bit frustrating when downloadable content is confirmed before a game gets released? This is the exact case for Eidos Montreal’s Deus Ex: Human Revolution as the publisher recently confirmed DLC is in the works which will add desirable content to the game.

Speaking with VG247 during an interview at gamescom, the game’s producer, David Anfossi, stated that work on the DLC has just begun.

“And yes, we started to work on DLC. That will be an extention of Deus Ex: Human Revolution. Me and [Jean-Francois] Dugas, the game director, we started to work on that.”

Marlboro Has Bad Breath in Latest Final Fantasy XIV Video

Some new off-screen Final Fantasy XIV footage has been captured this week at gamescom and was kindly put on the web for all of us to view. The video shows us what most of us have come to expect from a Final Fantasy game; lots of unique enemies, beautifully designed characters, and plenty of flashy attacks.

The PlayStation 3 version of FFXIV was recently pushed back and is currently scheduled for an early 2011 release.

PSLS Explores Gamescom in PlayStation Home

This past Thursday, Sony went ahead and made the epic decision to not only share their recently released Gamescom space with all European Home users, but North American Home users as well! We decided to head on over to this new space to check it out and see if it lived up to the bill, in addition to snapping a boatload of in-Home photos for everyone to check out.

Upon entering Home’s Gamescom inspired space, simply entitled ‘The Gallery’, the first thing most will notice is the exceptional modern design and and PlayStation themed items throughout. Whether it be the entrance, which is flooded with familiar PlayStation controller logos, or the gigantic PlayStation Move controllers found all around, this space is mighty pretty. There’s also a very short trailer from Gamescon playing in the center of the room, but nothing worth seeing, really. Next comes the space’s music, which conveys an overall “techie”, yet calming theme, with the second tune made up from a slowed down, slightly remixed version of the music heard in Home’s bowling alley, which is quite a soothing treat for the ears.

Then we have, more than likely, the main reason that many of you will choose to visit this space… the goodies and the rewards, of course! There are two main rooms on either end of the space itself, both of which feature PlayStation Move inspired artwork along with a group mini-game entitled ‘Reel of Fortune’, which requires four players in order to begin. Once started, a trailer for a particular Sony title from Gamescom comes up for a few seconds, then it’s each of the player’s jobs to stop a spinning roulette wheel, of sorts, in order to correctly identify the game which was just shown. All players must answer correctly, however everyone gets up to three chances, so it’s not really all that difficult.

Upon successful completion of Reel of Fortune, each player earns a picture frame related to the trailer which was just shown, with eight trailers in all, each with corresponding rewards. The following winnable items are as follows:

Note that these aren’t the same picture frames which display images from your HDD, but rather pieces of art with glass covers to hang around your personal space. One cool thing is that the Infamous 2 framed picture actually shows the first “new” Cole, as opposed second “new” Cole, but that’s pretty much it concerning free items in the space. There is, of course, a commerce point to purchase furniture items found within the space like rugs and couches, although one interesting inclusion was the PlayStation Move motion controller for $.99, which was initially a free obtainable item, given away during E3 2010 in the E3 event space.

So, that’s pretty much all there is to know about the all-new Gamescom space within PlayStation Home. Be sure to stop on by and take a look around, as this space is quite impressive, at least from a design standpoint. LittleBigPlanet 2 will Feature User Generated Voiceovers

We here at PlayStation LifeStyle are extremely excited about LittleBigPlanet 2 and for good reason. The expanded creation tools offer seemingly limitless potential, with modes, levels, AI and indeed whole games being available for you to create all from one small, glowing menu. And now the idea that you can customize the world to your exact liking seems even more real with the news from gamescom that will be able to give your creations a voice.

NowGamer reports that you will be able to attach your voice to anything in your game world, and what’s more, there won’t be a swear filter in place to drown out any sort of profanity (although that may not stop Stephen Fry coming round and washing your dirty mouth out with soap.)

This is a brilliant idea, not only because it could let some undiscovered voice talent shine throughout the network, but it will also give rise to a wealth of new ‘master of unlocking’ moments. We’ll make a meme out of you yet, Sackboy.
