First Footage of Robin the Boy Wonder Surfaces

Thanks to a GameStop UK promotional trailer, we are graced with the first gameplay footage of the sidekick Robin, a playable character in the upcoming Batman: Arkham City.

To play as Robin in the game, you must pre-order the game at GameStop in the UK and Best Buy in the U.S. For pre-ordering, you get not only Robin the character, but two challenge maps centered around the “Boy Wonder”. You will also gain two alternate costumes for Robin, taking you back to his past outfits. In the footage below we get a great look at his combat style and move set, with Robin performing acrobatic moves all over the screen.

Batman: Arkham City is set to release October 18th in North America and the 21st in Europe. Will you be placing your pre-order at either of these two places so that you can play as Robin? Let us know in the comments below.

Final Fantasy XIII-2 Pre-Order Incentives Revealed

Final Fantasy XIII-2 is set to release this coming January. Following the multimillion-selling Final Fantasy XIII, Square Enix is looking to get you to pre-order the game sooner rather than later. Some pre-order incentives have been announced, and can be read about below.

In a recent presser, Square Enix announced the goodies you will receive if you pre-order the game at participating retailers:

Amazon: Pre-order from this online retailer to receive the Omega Boss Battle, a “Unique coliseum battle against boss enemy “Omega,” who joins the player’s party afterward.”
Best Buy: This retailer has the only physical incentive announced so far: a collectible hardcover book, titled Final Fantasxy XIII Episode i. Square Enix has labeled this as a novella, which bridges the storylines between Final Fantasy XIII and XIII-2.
GameStop: Pre-orders from here will come with an alternate costume for Serah.

Splinter Cell HD Collection Appears to be Sneaking to A Fall Release

One thing that is a hot-ticket item this generation of consoles is HD remastering. Whether for God of War, Sly Cooper, Tomb Raider or other famous games of the last generation, HD collections are always value-packed at a budget price. The Splinter Cell Trilogy was originally slated for a March release, but if the latest retail listings are anything to go on, fans will have a bit more to wait before they can revisit the popular stealth series.

As spotted on Amazon, GameFly and GameStop‘s respective websites, the Splinter Cell Trilogy is now expected to arrive in your hands on September 27th. While we are awaiting official confirmation from publisher Ubisoft if this is indeed the final ship date, when three separate large retailers post the same information it lends credence to that date being official. Tom Clancy’s Splinter Cell Trilogy includes the original Splinter Cell, Splinter Cell: Pandora Tomorrow, and Splinter Cell: Chaos Theory remastered in high definition and given trophies, with perhaps some other functionality not yet revealed, for $39.99 USD. Do you mind the wait, or would you rather have the collection release sooner, during the summer lull between mega-blockbusters?

We’ve been keeping our eyes open for deals to save you money, and PlayStation LifeStyle has spotted another great one, which could get you in motion for the right price.

We’re gamers too here at PlayStation LifeStyle, so we realize that by the time you purchase a console, all the accessories, and a couple games, it adds up and gets pretty expensive. GameStop Offers Added Incentive to Buy a PlayStation 3

It has been a rough ride the past few weeks for Sony and owners of the PlayStation 3 console. PlayStation has reverted to it’s original 1994 form, with none of the online features working. While the network will be up sometime soon, you can’t help but think this might be affecting sales of the platform. To help turn things around, and increase their membership, retail giant GameStop is offering a great deal on PlayStation 3′s.

An email went out today to Power-Up Rewards members outlining a new deal netting whoever takes advantage of it $100 off a brand-new PlayStation 3. The 160 and 320 GB versions of the PS3 slim are available for this special deal but it is a members-only exclusive promotion – sorry everyone else (unless you take the plunge and become a member).

According to this email the deal will be in effect through Sunday May 29th, so if you’re a member of GameStop’s Rewards Program and you don’t own a PS3 or would like to pick up a 2nd one, now is the best time to act.

SOCOM 4 and Move Team Up to Top Gamestop’s Sales Chart

It wasn’t long ago that veteran game developer Zipper Interactive released their 13th title, also known as SOCOM 4: U.S. Navy SEALs. As with the other releases in its series, its a very competitive third-person shooter which thrives on both attention to detail and teamwork. While some fans of the series have found it mildly disappointing, a certain retailer indicates that consumers think otherwise.

The best seller list on Gamestop’s site currently shows that the SOCOM 4 PlayStation Move Ultimate Bundle has been able to grab the top spot within its first week of release. The $179 bundle includes Zipper Interactive’s recently released SOCOM 4, as well as well as a PlayStation Move controller, Navigation controller, and even the immersing Sharpshooter peripheral.

PlayStation Move has managed to sell exceptionally well, especially when considered that it still hasn’t had a breakthrough title to support it, but that’s not what it’s all about. Move is about providing additional experiences for games that don’t require it, and consumers have shown that they admire that quality with their wallets.

PlayStation Move Demand is Outselling Supply at GameStop

The PlayStation Move, Sony’s entry into the motion gaming space, released back in September. Since that time, Sony has repeatedly stated that the peripheral is selling well across multiple regions. Now, GameStop is concurring with that sentiment.

During yesterday’s earnings call at GameStop, President Tony Bartel remarked that they were having stock issues with the PlayStation Move due to demand:

We have struggled to stay in stock on the Sony Move controllers – there’s a tremendous amount of demand for that… Provided we can get more into stock, we should see some strong growth there…

With Killzone 3 out and SOCOM 4 already in beta, it seems more traditional gamers may be buying the incredibly accurate motion controller. Hopefully Sony can oblige by amping up manufacturing of these devices soon. So, do you have a Move? If not, what would get you to purchase one?

Gamestop Starts Selling SuperCharged PlayStation 3

On sale now at Gamestop is an ‘upgraded’ PS3 labeled as a supercharged refurbished PS3 and is coming chocked full of extras you don’t usually see out of the box when you pick up the console.

Working with Recharged, the PS3 comes with a 500GB HDD, a media remote to expand USB capability from 2 to 4, a remote control for watching movies, a lightening bolt skin and a 2 controller charging station. Add on to that a very handy HDMI cable and you can walk away with this used console for a low price of $400.

This is a great package, but you have to wonder just what Sony might be thinking about Gamestop selling an unofficial PS3 at retail.

GameStop Leaks Possible NGP Price

A leaked GameStop photo of upcoming video game releases has hinted at what the upcoming successor to the PlayStation Portable, the NGP, may end up costing when it releases in the US.

One of the main points of speculation since the announcement of the NGP has been it’s price point. The new handheld system is touting PS3 like graphics on a touch screen, two thumb sticks, multiple motion tracking sensors, as well as a touch pad on the back. This coupled with a high end camera, cross platform playing capabilities, and Wi-fi and 3G connectivity, all comes together for what’s presumably some expensive technology. The recently leaked screens from Gamestop supports what several analysts predicted: a $300 price point. Well, $299.99 to be exact, if you worry about pennies.

Of course, this pricing is subject to change, and isn’t official, but it does lend credence to what we may expect when this little beast arrives on the market. It’s also worthwhile to note that we can see what looks like a release date of 1/1/12, which is probably a place holder considering that Sony originally stated the new portable would see shelves by the holiday season of 2011. That leads to the thought the price may be a placeholder as well. However, if this is indeed the case, would you be ready to shell out the dough?

Uncharted 3 May Offer Treasure of Off-line Co-Op

Naughty Dog’s Uncharted 3 still isn’t due for at least another year, but that hasn’t stopped us from searching around for more information of Nathan Drake’s next treasure adventure. It’s already known that the Uncharted developers plan to outdo Among Thieves, but details about how they plan to do that have been under tight wraps. But can we begin to speculate that there is a very good chance for off-line co-op?

Already, GameStop is taking in pre-orders for Uncharted 3, and some details of the game may have spilled that hasn’t been confirmed by Naughty Dog yet. One piece of info in particular, is that Drake’s Deception may come with an off-line co-op mode as it is shown advertised on GameStop’s website.

Co-op isn’t exactly new to the series as we saw an online co-op mode available in Among Thieves. But that co-op option only had a few missions that didn’t take the players through the campaign. Perhaps this is the full co-op feature that we have been waiting for with the storyline embedded. At this point it’s all speculation, so we’ll have to sit this one out until we get some answers from Naughty Dog. Whatever their explanation is, it can only be good from this point.

Sony Teams Up With GameStop To Sell PS3 DLC

The future of gaming will be online, with more and more games having downloadable content, from extra multiplayer levels, to entire new story lines. But what part does retail play in the online market? Retail could face extinction as the market becomes entirely virtual, just like on the PSP Go. However, retail has the advantage of attracting more people from outside the gaming sphere, as well as creating a competitive market that keeps prices low. In a move that makes sense for both parties, Sony Computer Entertainment America and video game retail giant GameStop have announced a unique partnership to sell downloadable content through their store and website.

Select downloadable content can now be purchased at GameStop retail locations and will soon be available on www.GameStop.com. The DLC – including full PSN games, add-ons, and even PlayStation Plus subscriptions, are currently available in several GameStop stores and will continue to be added to the PlayStation DLC section in more than 4,400 retail stores and www.GameStop.com throughout the rest of the month.

Over 1.25 billion pieces of content have been downloaded worldwide on the PlayStation Network from over 60 million registered PSN users, with this number set to rise now that the world’s largest video game and entertainment software retailer will be offering to content to consumers.

Tim Bender, Senior Vice President of Sales, SCEA said:

“We are always looking for new ways PlayStation Network users can expand, extend and enhance their overall entertainment experience,”
“Being able to purchase downloadable digital content at retail provides yet another convenient purchasing option for gamers.”

Fist of the North Star: Ken’s Rage Gets GameStop Pre-Order Exclusive

Tecmo Koei America and GameStop have announced a pre-order bonus exclusive to GameStop customers who put a pre-order in place for Fist of the North Star: Ken’s Rage.

Those who pre-order the game at the retailer will obtain access to a new playable character named Heart as well as two new bonus missions. Heart’s sheer size gives players an advantage against their opponents. The DLC code also sees the inclusion of two extra scenarios with one scenario filled with five bosses and exploding barrels. The other bonus mission sees players being able to fight in a wasteland where food is a bit low so in order to complete the level you must control the entire food supply.

Fist of the North Star: Ken’s Rage is currently scheduled for a release on November 2nd, 2010. If you want a preview of the title the demo is now available on the PlayStation Store.

Dead Space 2 Collector’s Edition Gets Attractive Price

After a leak by online retailer Amazon publisher EA decided to official announce Dead Space 2‘s collector’s edition. Now, retailer GameStop has listed the CE for an attractive price.

GameStop’s listing of Dead Space 2 collector’s edition is currently priced at $79.99. With an array of enticing goodies within the game’s collector’s edition consider this an affordable deal, especially for fans of the series. The CE consists of:

Dead Space 2 game
Downloadable Unitology Suit and Force Gun, providing Isaac with unique benefits when used in Dead Space 2
Dead Space 2 Original Soundtrack on CD; features an hour of music compiled from the game’s score
Concept art lithograph depicting Necromorph transformation by Visceral Games artist Brett Marting

GameStop Set to Make Hundreds of Millions Via Digital Sales

When digital downloads really started taking off for the console gaming industry, physical media stores began to worry. GameStop has not rested on its laurels, however, and is apparently going to be bringing in a nice chunk of change from digital sales this year.

According to analyst Colin Sebastian from Lazard Capital Markets, GameStop is going to be bringing in at least $200 million USD in revenue from selling digital-related materials alone. This would include PSN/XBLA/Wii point cards, downloadable content (likely through vouchers), and its online browser-based Kongregate service. Sebastian also noted that platforms other than consoles, such as smartphones, allow the company to “aggregate content across a broad variety of connected devices.” GameStop currently has a game titled Buck and the Coin of Destiny, starring their bunny mascot, available for iOS devices. With the holidays fast approaching, physical orders are still king, however, with Call of Duty: Black Ops recently breaking pre-order records for the store.

GameStop Celebrates Black Ops Pre-Order Record with Sweepstakes

We are now nearing the holiday season, and as usual, that means another Call of Duty title. This year, Treyarch is behind the warfare with what they are calling the biggest endeavor yet. So much, in fact, that the game now holds the record for being GameStop’s most pre-ordered game of all-time.

According to GameStop, Call of Duty: Black Ops has managed to obtain the highest pre-order count in the history of the company. The previous record lies with last year’s Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 launch, but Treyarch’s fresh, Cold War-era setting has managed to eclipse those extraordinary numbers nearly four weeks prior to launch.

In celebration of the imminent release of the title, GameStop is holding a Call of Duty: Black Ops Surprize Attack sweepstakes including prizes such as the Prestige Edition, controllers, and more, each of which will be given away in 24-hour intervals. All that is needed to apply is either a receipt of pre-order or an online confirmation code which implies that the sweepstakes is only available to those who have pre-ordered through GameStop.
