The Guitar Hero® music library continues to evolve and expand as November brings a great collection of new and classic tracks from some of rock’s best-loved artists. Fans can download tracks from artists including Lenny Kravitz and KISS and – for the first time – they can import tracks directly from Guitar Hero 5® and Band Hero™ into their Guitar Hero music library.

On November 5, as a way to commemorate the release of Band Hero, Guitar Hero music aficionados can import 69 tracks from the highly acclaimed Guitar Hero 5 into Band Hero, or import 61 of Band Hero’s hits directly into Guitar Hero 5. Celebrating the 20th anniversary of his 1989 debut album, Let Love Rule, Lenny Kravitz will be returning to Guitar Hero on November 12 with a three song track pack that will set players’ fingers ablaze. The track pack features his debut single “Let Love Rule,” “Lady,” off his seventh studio album Baptism, and “Fly Away,” one of Lenny Kravitz most successful songs to date.

Back on the road again this fall to accompany the launch of their newest studio album Sonic Boom, KISS has decided to add one additional date to the tour. Look for KISS to headline the Guitar Hero stage on November 19 with a three song track pack that’s sure to satiate the KISS fan in everyone. The track pack will feature “Modern Day Delilah,” the first single off their new album, Sonic Boom, “Lick It Up” the title track on their similarly named 1983 album, Lick it Up, and “I Was Made for Loving You,” KISS’s second Gold single.

Guitar Hero wouldn’t be what it is today without the loyalty of its fans. As a thank you for all the years of support and encouragement, Neversoft proudly presents a free six song track pack of music from bands that feature Neversoft employees. The track pack, which will be available just before Thanksgiving on November 24 includes “Lemon Frosting” by Bunny Knutson, “RockNRola” by Nancy Fullforce, “From the Blue/Point of No Return/T.T.R.T.S” by An Endless Sporadic, “Love Holds It Down” by Dom Liberati, “You Really Like Me” by Davidicus and “Guilty Pleasures” by Tony Solis. The Neversoft Thanks the Fans track pack will only be available for the Xbox 360® video game and entertainment system from Microsoft and for the PlayStation®3 computer entertainment system.

Wii™ owners have spoken and Guitar Hero has heard you loud and clear. Starting November 24, Wii and Metallica fans looking to get their fix will be able to download 8 additional tracks off Metallica’s Death Magnetic album which were previously only available on Xbox 360 and Playstation 3. The songs, which will be available only as downloadable singles, include “All Nightmare Long,” “That Was Just Your Life,” “The Day That Never Comes,” “The Judas Kiss,” “The End Of The Line,” “The Unforgiven III,” “Suicide & Redemption J.H.” and “Suicide & Redemption K.H.”

The Lenny Kravitz and KISS Track Packs will be available on Xbox LIVE® Marketplace for Xbox 360 on the PlayStation®Store for the PlayStation 3 system and for Wii™. In addition, all songs in the Lenny Kravitz and KISS Track Packs will be released as downloadable singles for Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 system and Wii. The Guitar Hero 5 and Band Hero disc imports will be available for Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 system and Wii. The remaining eight songs in Metallica’s Death Magnetic track pack will be released as downloadable singles for Wii for 200 Wii Points each.

Additionally, fans are now able to choose from more than 150 other downloadable songs or import select songs from Guitar Hero® World Tour and Guitar Hero® Greatest Hits to further customise their Guitar Hero 5 and Band Hero set list.

After such an amazing showing at their GamesCom Press Conference Sony is definitely on a roll. But will this new found momentum reflect this week’s PS Store update?

This week Creat Studios will be bringing Smash Cars to the PS Store. Also this week we will be getting a demo for the upcoming game, Mini Ninjas. As for rumored content, we are still hoping for Trine, although it’s been weeks in the rumored section, we do know the game has been submit to Sony. Other than that we are getting our usual Rock Band, and Guitar Hero DLC. We’re also expecting plenty of new trailers coming out of GamesCom.

This week PS3 owners finally get their hands on this summer’s most anticipated fighter, Marvel Vs. Capcom 2. Other than that, this week is really lacking in confirmed content. However we got you covered with our rumored content. As for DLC we have the LittleBigPlanet History Pack, along with the usual Guitar Hero World Tour, and Rock Band DLC (admittedly the Rock Band content is looking enticing). Still no word on Trine, but it’s still in the rumored section, as we know for sure it’s been submit to Sony. Now it’s just a matter of when developer Frozenbyte fixes the bug that’s been found. This week we’ll all be going insane over the Batman Arkham Asylum Demo. Call of Jaurez: Bound in Blood is calling for some DLC this week. inFamous Sackboys will be the most shocking DLC of the week. On the other end of the spectrum is the humdrum DLC from Guitar Hero World Tour releasing only one track. Lastly we are hearing that Call of Duty: World at War Map Pack will be dropping this week.

This week the PS Store update is filled with notable content. Shatter is this week’s top pick. Europe is getting Final Fantasy Crystal Defenders, which also may come to the US PS Store. If it doesn’t make it to the US, you’ll still get your Final Fantasy fix, as the Dissidia demo is set for release. We also have some really exciting DLC this week in WipEout HD Fury, and Killzone 2: Napalm and Cordite. Trine developers Frozenbyte have said that Trine is coming before the end of July so that’s filed under rumored. Lastly because we are getting so much Final Fantasy love this week, maybe we’ll see the long-rumored PS One Classic, Final Fantasy Tactics.

This week will be the last week before the major [shal]E3[/shal] blowout that we are expecting. Next week you will have things to look forward to such as the SCEA Press Conference, as well as a ton of exclusive trailers direct from E3. This week however we will be getting a good amount of content as well. The real star of this week’s update is the [shal]Resident Evil[/shal]: Director’s Cut PSOne Classic. We also are expecting one or two more PS One classics to tag along. Also look out for a demo or two this week, as well as plenty of DLC. Also just to clarify, another site trying to copy this feature talked about a [shal]Fight Night Round 4[/shal] Demo being confirmed this week for the [shal]PSN[/shal], that is not the case. Official press release states it the demo will be released on June 4th.

Metal mavens, pop stars and global invaders can rejoice this May with three new downloadable Track Packs coming to Activision Publishing, Inc.’s (Nasdaq: ATVI) Guitar Hero® World Tour. The eclectic downloadable set list opens with free music from Ferret Music and Metal Blade Records, followed by pop anthems from P!nk, Angels & Airwaves and OneRepublic, rounded out with three smash hits from Europe.

On May 7th, virtual rockstars will take the stage with three free tracks in the Ferret/Metal Blade Track Pack. Fans can download The Devil Wears Prada’s “Dez Moines” two days after the launch of their newest album, With Roots Above and Branches Below. Joining “Dez Moines” are “On Broken Glass,” off Chimaira’s April release, Infection and “Grave of Opportunity” from Unearth’s 2008 album, The March.

Coming to Guitar Hero World Tour on May 14th, the Pop Rock Track Pack features P!nk’s #1 hit single “So What,” which landed her a GRAMMY® nomination for Best Female Pop Vocal Performance. Having reached the peak position in various charts globally and risen to the top-10 in countless others, OneRepublic’s “Stop and Stare” joins “Everything’s Magic,” the first single from Angels & Airwaves’ most recent album, I-Empire, to complete the Track Pack.

On May 21st, Guitar Hero World Tour’s global music library will continue to grow with three additional tracks from some of Europe’s greatest bands. GUITAR HERO: WORLD TOUR REVIEW

On November 8th 2005, the world was introduced to the phenomenon known as Guitar Hero. The franchise introduced us to what arcade players were used to, which was rocking out with fake instruments. It wasn’t a real guitar, but hey, it was a blast. Soon followed Guitar Hero II, which expanded on what the first one did, and added so much more. Finally, Guitar Hero was introduced on PS3, with the title Guitar Hero III: Legends of Rock.

Though when no one thought the music based video game could be stopped, Rock Band was introduced to millions of gamers, and became an instant it. Rock Band also introduced gamers to the whole band, with a guitar, drums, and a microphone. So, how would Activision retaliate? Easy. They’d make their own Rock Band.

Guitar Hero: World Tour is the fourth installment in the console series, and it introduces GH fans to something new. Instead of having just the regular ol’ guitar, the game brought what Rock Band brought, which was drums, and a microphone. Even though the game has changed up a bit, you can tell it’s the same old Guitar Hero.

Once the crazy intro is done, you’re ready to rock. The menu showcases your options, which include Career (where you can either go Single, be in a band, or do training), Quickplay, Head to Head, Online, Music Studio, and Rock Star Creator. There’s more, but do you honestly want to known about the options or my downloads? Probably not.

Career mode is like the other Guitar Hero career modes before it. You play at a club, sing two songs (more songs later), and a get a good rating. If you’re great, congrats! You get to sing the crowd an encore, earning you more points and money. Boss battles are still in the game, but are a bit different than the ones from Legends of Rock. You can either do career as your band, or play with the guitar, bass, drums, or vocals with yourself.

Quickplay is basically what it sounds like. You can go in, and play whatever in-game song you desire. You can do this, again, with a band or on your own. In Head-to-Head mode, you can play against other players, but only with the same instrument. This mode has the battle modes you saw in the last Guitar Hero game. You can also go online for the Head-to-Head mode, and face off against other players from around the world. And hey, if you don’t want to go yourself, you can create a four player band and face off against another one.

The Rock Star Creator is a cool new feature, borrowing off of what Rock Band did back in 2007. This mode has you creating your own rock star, rather than the hideous characters from the previous games. Finally, the last mode is the greatest one, where you can create your own songs. Doing this is difficult, but it does pay off in the end. And with a wide range of songs already available for download off of PSN, you can have new songs everytime you play.

While you may be thinking that this game sounds great and you should go buy it, hold on. The game alone costs $60, and the entire instrument & game package comes in at a whopping $189.99. You may want to think about spending this amount before knowing some of the problems for the game.

Guitar Hero: World Tour has some great songs. But unfortunately, certain sections of a song will make you think to yourself, “This doesn’t seem right”. And unfortunately, it’s true. Many of the notes in some songs shouldn’t be where they are, and the patterns can become confusing. Another problem with World Tour is that the game doesn’t support trophies, even though the game came out in October of last year. By then, you would think the developer would have at least put some thought into it. And no, there is no patch for trophies coming. Sorry.

And my main concern with Guitar Hero: World Tour is that it was a massive leap within the series itself, but that doesn’t mean it had a large impact on the music genre of games. Guitar Hero ultimately tried to copy what Rock Band did, but missed the mark by a wide margin. And unfortunately, the game feels sort of identical to Guitar Hero III: Legends of Rock. They basically built a sequel that’s set in the same location, but with different moves.

On the bright side, Guitar Hero: World Tour has a great selection of music, and it’s fun to play with and against others. That said, it’s too bad the game falls short of grabbing the throne for music games, as Rock Band still sits high up in that seat. The high price doesn’t help it out much either.

On March 12th, Rise Against will join the growing roster of artists to debut exclusively created music to Guitar Hero fans with the debut of “Death Blossoms” as downloadable content for Activision Publishing, Inc.’s (Nasdaq: ATVI – News) Guitar Hero® World Tour.

The Guitar Hero alums, with “Prayer of the Refuge” and “Re-Education (Through Labor)” appearing in previous versions of Guitar Hero, complete the Rise Against Track Pack with “Audience of One,” the hit single off the band’s new album Appeal to Reason and “Ready to Fall,” from their 2006 album The Sufferer & The Witness.

“Guitar Hero continues to be a platform for artists to deliver new music while gaining invaluable exposure,” says Tim Riley, Vice President of Music Affairs for Activision Blizzard. “We are thrilled that Rise Against was willing to compose and record ‘Death Blossoms’ exclusively for our audience offering fans an opportunity to download music heard nowhere else.”

Rise Against is vocalist Tim McIlrath, bassist Joe Principe, drummer Brandon Barnes and guitarist Zach Blair. In spring 2001, the band released their debut CD “The Unraveling” on Fat Wreck Chords. Did you buy the mic for Singstar, but didn’t want to have to buy the mic for Rock Band 2 as well? Were you going to buy Rock Band 2 and the accompanying instruments, but didn’t want to have to buy the entire package for Guitar Hero: World Tour? Guess what. Sony was looking out for you.

PS. Konami is not left out of the fun. The instruments will be compatible with Rock Revolution as well.

A recent blog post has indicated that Sony is ensuring that PS3 users will have the ability to enjoy the upcoming music games without having to spend a fortune. You have to have heard someone ask which title should they get. No one really wants to spend all of their Christmas budget on these two titles alone.

Sony said an announcement for compatibility between the current music titles will arrive when the feature arrives. Color me impressed. Do you think this will sway multiconsole owners to purchase the PS3 version of these upcoming titles?
