href="http://playstationlifestyle.net/2011/02/03/ps3-review-killzone-3/">Killzone 3 has been well supported by Guerrilla Games since its launch back in February. A total of three DLC packs have been released, and best of all, they’ve included quality content for an unbeatable price. However, Killzone fans have been asking for one thing in particular which has yet to be addressed: additional operations mode maps.

Guerrilla Games has displayed some doubt on whether or not additional operations maps would be added post-launch. We can now safely, and sadly, say that there is very little chance that this wide concern for Killzone 3 will ever be addressed. The official Killzone twitter account had the following posted in response to a question regarding DLC and operations mode:

It is unlikely there will be any more Operations maps for Killzone 3.

There are currently only three maps that support operations mode, and they are Frozen Dam, Akmir Snowdrift, and Mawlr Graveyard. Coincidentally, many argue that these are the most entertaining maps, and the mode sets the game apart from competitors with its player-integrating cutscenes and big moments. It’s a shame that Guerrilla Games is doubtful that additional levels of this mode will be added, and hopefully they can deliver a larger variety in Killzone 4.

Killzone 3 has just had its third DLC pack launched, and it includes four maps for only $4.99. Be sure to check it out!
<hr

But never fear, because new maps are here to make sure people start talking about the game during this summer.

Guerrilla Games have revealed details for the upcoming Killzone 3 DLC which is accurately titled “From the Ashes“. The pack will include a total of four maps, each widely different in style, and covering both Guerrilla Warfare and Warzone styles of play.

The development team also chose to unveil two of the maps today, including both Mobile Factory and Lente Missile Base. Mobile Factory is a 16 player map set on the large mobile fortress found in Killzone 3‘s campaign mode. The fortress is constantly moving, and if players aren’t careful, they’ll plummet to their deaths. On the other hand, the Lente Missile Base is staged in the gorgeous Kaznan Jungle, a section in the campaign mode that many regarded as their favorite. The map will support 24 players for a chaotic Warzone experience with deadly missile explosions adding danger to major choke points.

From the Ashes will be offered in the next PlayStation Store update for only $4.99. Better yet, Guerrilla Games will be offering both major DLC packs along with the Retro Pack which includes two Killzone 2 favorites for only $9.99. Now that’s bang for the buck.

All that downtime can really lay some stress on a gamer. Three full weeks of turning on the PS3 only to be greeted by the “PlayStation Network is currently down for maintenance” message. Three full weeks of owning one of the greatest multiplayer shooters to date, and being unable to wreak havoc on your online enemies. I’m sorry if I’m bringing up painful memories here, but know that you’re not alone. Guerilla Games feels your pain, and has decided to help you make up for lost time by providing players with a double experience weekend, starting tomorrow:

To celebrate the return of the PlayStation Network and welcome you back to Killzone 3’s online battlefield, we’ve got a Double XP Weekend lined up! Starting this Friday, May 20 at 17:00 PM UK time, and lasting until Monday, May 23 at 10:00 AM UK time, all XP you earn in Killzone 3’s multiplayer matches will be doubled.

If there was ever a great way to celebrate the return of the PlayStation Network, it’s exactly this. It’s time to put that rebuilt network to the test, by jamming the servers with as many Killzone 3 competitors as humanly possible. Couple that with the <a

If that wasn’t enough, the Killzone blog claims there will be more on the way, but they didn’t give any clue about what that would be. We’ll be keeping our eyes peeled though for more information on that, as well as on the screen while brutal melee kills are being burned into our retinas. Will you be getting a taste of the overflowing cup of sweet, sweet experience this weekend?
<hr

Titled “The Stereoscopic 3D Experience – The First Year of 3D on PlayStation 3,” it takes place on July 21st, the last day of the show. The entire presentation will be presented to the audience in Full HD Stereoscopic 3D, as well as in surround sound. Several case studies will be presented, such as Killzone 3, as well as horror stories and what not to do when developing for 3D. Mr. Hocking sounded excited to be able to share his experiences to the Develop Conference attendees:

I’m really looking forward to giving this keynote at Develop. I’ll be doing a 3D post-mortem from Killzone 3, and also showing how we implemented 3D as an advanced post effect in SOCOM 4. I’ll look at how we used a 2D camera for 3D augmented reality in EyePet Move. Actually being able to show these on a big screen with surround sound will make all the difference for the audience.

The on Killzone.com, the “Steel Rain” DLC should be available for European customers as of this writing. However, if you are in the United States, the pack will not go live until next Tuesday, April 12th. The price? €4.99 if in Europe, or free if you are a PlayStation Plus member during this month, and $4.99 in the US. The wording in the post does not make it completely clear if the PS Plus deal is exclusive to European customers, but as soon as that is ironed out we will let you know. So, who’s ready for some soaking wet combat?

Update: The official PS.Blog has as of yesterday, currently only “eligible players” have been invited for this week. This likely includes those who have logged numerous hours in SOCOM: Confrontation and/or those who are active on the forums. There are two maps being showcased, “Port Authority” and “Assault & Battery.” All fours modes of gameplay are available in these maps:

Suppression: The SOCOM take on team deathmatch.

Last Defense: Capture controls points, discover the enemy base and destroy it.

Uplink: Steal enemy data and deliver it to your base.

Bomb Squad: Defend your bomb technician while he disarms enemy explosives.

In addition to standard and classic play modes, some days will include certain custom modes that the developer is testing out:

Sniper Alley: An 8 vs. 8 version of Classic Suppression with higher damage. Weapons are limited to sniper rifles, shotguns, smoke grenades and poison gas.

Last Defense Run ‘n Gun: Faster movement speed and reduced damage are applied to 16 vs. 16 Last Defense with weapons restricted to only shotguns and SMGs.

Scrum: Suppression is given rule tweaks of no respawn, faster movement and higher damage, while sniper rifles, frag grenades, concussion grenades and poison gas are disallowed.

Community Day Classic: A medley featuring Classic versions of all four game types (Suppression, Last Defense, Uplink and Bomb Squad) with increased speed and weapon restrictions placed on ranged explosives. Each game type is played over 11 five-minute rounds.

Finally, a schedule of which of these custom game modes and when they will be played has been detailed:

Tuesday (3/15) — Suppression and Classic Suppression

Wednesday (3/16) — Suppression and Classic Suppression

Thursday (3/17) — Uplink and Classic Uplink

Friday (3/18) — Last Defense and Classic Last Defense

Saturday (3/19) — Bomb Squad and Classic Bomb Squad

Sunday (3/20) — Sniper Alley and Last Defense Run ‘n Gun

Monday (3/21) — Scrum and Community Day Classic

So, were you invited to the private beta? If so, how active in the SOCOM or possibly MAG community are you? For the rest of us, we may not have to wait too much longer to get into the beta: as detailed earlier, PlayStation Plus members will be able to play beginning on March 22nd, Killzone 3 purchasers will gain access on March 29th, and finally anyone else not in the beta by April 5th will get to join in on the fun for the last week until the game releases on the 13th.

Stay tuned to PlayStation LifeStyle for our impressions on the beta as soon once we have spent a sufficient time shooting the rest of you online!

patches, and their team has been battling to make Killzone 3 as enjoyable as possible. The first major patch for the title just released, and was supposed to fully recover the game. Unfortunately, it did more harm than good.

<span

Among the issues encountered are severe lag, disconnections mid-game, and the notorious network connection hindrances that make joining online games nearly impossible. Guerrilla Games has since stated that they’re working on addressing these frustrating issues, and have turned to the community for data, but more patience will be required before we see a stable Killzone 3 online mode. id="more-136133">The two maps included – MP-09 Junkyard and MP-10 Stahl Arms – in the DLC are detailed below:

MP-09 JUNKYARD

Game Type: Guerrilla Warfare (16 players)

The junkyards of Helghan are a wasteland to some, but a valuable resource to others. In the main junk processing facility of Helghan, ISA and Helghast Forces are clashing in an attempt to salvage vehicles and supplies for their war effort. Jetpacks are the key to taking the high ground, but the huge Exoskeletons can quickly turn the tide of the battle on the ground.

MP-10 STAHL ARMS

Game Type: Warzone (24 Players)

As the Helghast write a new and appalling chapter on humanoid experimentation, beleaguered ISA Forces mount a desperate attack on the notorious Stahl Arms research facility, where they hope to free ISA soldiers who have been taken captive. Stahl’s Helghast forces will stop at nothing to ensure that the ISA attack fails, even if it means exterminating the very prisoners they need for their weapons research.

A price and release date has yet to be revealed for the game’s first downloadable content pack. id="more-136007">

Speaking with CVG, Producer at Guerrilla Games Steven Ter Heide stated that the recent events with the hackers is indeed a concern and that the firm is looking at every angle and working with Sony to combat any possible issues.

The ability for one person to ruin people’s games is not a good prospect obviously, so we’re working with Sony on the moderation side. We’re looking at people misbehaving, being able to follow reports against those so that’s all been taken care of – and we’re working with Sony to see, even more aggressively, what kind of things are happening.

But at the same time we have to step up as developers and say, ‘OK what are the holes in our game, what is the data, can we analyze that and see where the problems might be? We can look at the leaderboards and the stats that most people are playing with and say, ‘This doesn’t look right. Can we look into that and see what’s happening?’ That’s the reality now, we have to keep patching the game to make sure we keep getting one over the hackers.

It’s good to see Guerrilla Games being very active in trying to keep our online fun intact. Killzone 3 released this past Tuesday in the States, and is rolling out across the world this week, to rave reviews, including <a
