Kojima: Metal Gear Solid 5 Won’t be at E3, NGP Game Not MGS4 Port

Kojima Productions recently confirmed that several announcements would be made at a forthcoming Konami event, and speculation, inevitably, turned to Metal Gear Solid related titles. Don’t get your hopes up too high, though, as MGS creator Hideo Kojima has crushed many intriguing rumors.

Kojima took to the Japanese version of the Kojima Productions podcast to answer questions regarding Metal Gear Solid. Firstly, he confirmed that Metal Gear Solid 5 will not be announced at E3, nor did he leave any hint it would. The developer also said that his “dream” Next Generation Portable game will not be a port of Metal Gear Solid 4.

However, all hope for a few exciting announcements regarding Metal Gear Solid is not lost: Kojima replied in the affirmative when asked if he is planning something big for Metal Gear‘s 25th anniversary next year.

Regarding the next MGS game on consoles, Metal Gear Solid: Rising, Kojima said no to the following questions:

Is Gray Fox the main character in MGS Rising?
Will MGS Rising‘s multiplayer be shown?
Is MGS Rising‘s release date November 1, 2011?

Hideo Kojima took his thoughts to Twitter a few days ago when he said something he worked on for a year is now meaningless.

Konami’s E3 press conference, meanwhile, commences on Thursday, June 2nd… a week before E3 starts.

Metal Gear Solid 4 Trophy List Leaked, Patch Incoming

On July 2, 2008 the PlayStation was updated to system software 2.40. And with it, along with a few handy features, came the addition of unlockable trophies for select PlayStation 3 titles. While trophies are indeed mandatory now, there was once a time when only a few games supported them.

Metal Gear Solid 4 released on the PlayStation 3 just 3 weeks before firmware 2.40 went live, and fans have begged for the title to receive a patch to enable trophies ever since. Konami made the point to state that they’re listening to the outcry from fans, but couldn’t yet give anything more solid than that. Then, the Greatest Hits version of MGS4 was repackaged recently, and on the case listed trophy support. Unfortunately, that was just a misprint.

Today we received a leaked Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots trophy list from an unnamed source who works closely with Konami, and confirmation that the long-awaited trophy patch is coming.

In total, Metal Gear Solid 4 will have 42 trophies including: 29 bronze, 8 silver, 4 gold and 1 platinum. Of those, 16 trophies are hidden (we have those descriptions as well, but are story related so heed our spoiler warning).

Metal Gear Online Gets Updated

Despite being released a few years ago, Metal Gear Solid 4‘s online component, Metal Gear Online, is still going strong with thousands still participating in virtual stealth action against opponents. Unfortunately, some players are using ‘fraudulent network connections’ which have a significant impact during gameplay slowing down sessions. Developer Konami has now addressed these issues and also delivered a few bonuses in a recently released patch for Metal Gear Online.

The patch released by Konami, is now live and apparently detects and gets rid of the fraudulent network connections. Also fixed via the update is the game’s Drebin Points system and the weapon and skill parameters have been tweaked. Additionally, idle kicks for automatic matches have been implemented.

The update also introduces the ability to play regular background music from past Metal Gear Solid games. Finally, the Scene, Gene and Meme expansion packs can be purchased through Metal Gear Solid 4‘s internal shop as well as Konami’s shop.

New Metal Gear Solid 4 Box Lists Trophy Support

Thus far, the most significant release on the PlayStation 3, has been none other than Metal Gear Solid 4. The title released just before trophies were brought to the console, and fans have been begging for a trophy patch ever since. The new “Greatest Hits” packaging for Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots is currently hitting retailers everywhere, and the rear of the game case offers much hope for trophies finally being enabled for the PS3 exclusive.

While this isn’t a confirmation, and we have seen some mistakes on game cases in the past, it certainly offers a glimmer of hope for a MGS4 trophy patch.

On the rear of the new MGS4 Greatest Hits edition case reveals — as seen on all PS3 games — a short list of PlayStation Network features available in the title. The list shows it as having online multiplayer, voice chat and… trophies!

Could Konami be planning a stealth trophy update for Solid Snake and crew? We’ve fired off an email to Konami but we’ve yet to hear anything back at this time. We’ll be sure to update you if there is any official confirmation or outright denial.

Kojima Wants to Make ‘Complete Version’ of Metal Gear Solid 4

Ever since the trophy system made its debut on the PlayStation 3, gamers far-and-wide have been asking for trophy support for the epic Metal Gear Solid 4. Up until now, that request has essentially been ignored, but it appears that there is the desire for a Metal Gear Solid 4 revamp, which would definitely include trophy support.

Once again, the Twitterverse comes in handy, as Kojima-san was prompted to comment on the possibility of a ‘complete version’ of Metal Gear Solid 4 after a fan posed the question asking whether or not he’d be interested in a remake or sorts. Kojima then responded with the following (translated):

I wanted to make a ‘Complete Version’ with trophy support and 3D, but if I did that I wouldn’t be able to work on a new game. I wonder if someone else would make it for me.

We can only pray that someone within Kojima Productions heeds the call and puts forth an effort to make this revamp a reality. With PS3 sales at an all-time high, would be the perfect way to draw new gamers into the fray; have they not already picked up the original, that is. We’ll be sure to keep you posted if we hear anything further regarding a MGS4 remake.
