ModNation Racers has been heavily anticipated since reveal, continuing the Play.Create.Share mantra that was introduced in LittleBigPlanet. There have been many questions for the title, like how it’ll control, its online abilities, and its creative features. But there’s one big one question: the release date.

Well, the release date has been revealed via the US PlayStation Blog. Both the PS3 and PSP version of ModNation Racers will hit May 25th 2010. Along with the release date, the pre-order bonuses for the title have been announced. Depending on what retailer you choose to pick up the game, there’s either Nathan Drake, Kratos, or Ratchet & Clank for your choosing.

By pre-ordering at either GameStop, Amazon, and Best Buy, you’ll get Kratos, Ratchet & Clank, or Nathan Drake, respectively. Both Kratos and Nathan Drake will be receiving their own personal karts. However, it seems that Ratchet & Clank will not, based on the image above. You can check out the PlayStation heroes in action in our gallery below. Wherever you pre-order the title however, buyers will be given an additional “Mystery Mod” and Kart package. Those packages will also include additional accessories to be used in your own creations. We’re nearing the end of first-quarter 2010, and the year has already begun with a storm of phenomenal titles. While 2009 was a great year for PlayStation owners, many anticipated what has been widely considered as one of the strongest first-quarters in gaming ever. Both MAG and Heavy Rain were smash hits, and Final Fantasy XIII as well as God of War III are about to make their vigorous debuts. However, nobody has questioned the strength of the first-quarter library. The question is, what is there in store for PlayStation 3 owners after March?

Gran Turismo 5

Gran Turismo 5 is arguably the most anticipated title of this generation. With roughly 5-years of development and a staff of over 100-people, Gran Turismo 5 looks to solidify the series’ reputation as being a step ahead of the rest. This title looks to sport over 1000 cars, over 50 tracks, a robust online mode and tons of realism. There is no doubt that Gran Turismo 5 will be a solid title and a must-have for car enthusiasts everywhere.

The Last Guardian

Team ICO. That’s all that needs to be said to demand attention to this title. A couple trailers have been shown which show a deeply emotional experience within beautiful environments. As with the previous games by the developer, expect a captivating experience unlike any other.

3D Dot Game Heroes

To many, 3D Dot Game Heroes is just a strange-looking RPG. To others, this is a reincarnation of the golden days of gaming with an updated spin. 3D Dot Game Heroes looks to recreate the gameplay and style of vintage RPG titles such as Zelda on the SNES. Expect a simple but incredibly fun action RPG with some unique twists.

ModNation Racers

The recent closed beta for ModNation Racers left some great impressions for those who had a chance to try the title out. As with LittleBigPlanet, ModNation Racers has the potential to appeal to a wide-audience and is simply a lot of fun to play. Casuals will have a blast with the addictive and multi-layered core gameplay, while hardcores will have the deep online system and impressively-detailed level creator to keep themselves occupied. ModNation Racers is shaping up to be a huge hit.

Agent

Unfortunately very little is known about Rockstar’s upcoming title named Agent. Announced at E3 2009, Agent looks to try its hand at the world of espionage and assassination. Rockstar have always been consistent in their ability to develop incredibly polished titles, and hopefully Agent will be no different. Not to mention a Rockstar representative called the game “something truly spectacular”.

ModNation Racers PSP, which hits alongside it’s PS3 brother, was sort of a surprise. The title was announced out of nowhere, and even more shocking was that it was fact it’s being released the same day as the PS3 version. New screens have been released showing that this pint-sized portable racer can hold its own alongside its console coutnerpart.

Rumors began to swirl last year when a listing for a PSP version of ModNation Racers appeared on Gamestop.com. Sony denied the rumor and not even two months later, it’s been confirmed. Get your engine’s ready folks, ModNation Racers is coming to Sony’s Portable handheld!

Releasing day and date alongside it’s bigger brother on the PS3, ModNation Racers PSP will include all of the features of the PS3 version, including Online multiplayer.

Unfortunately, no release date has yet to be revealed for ModNation Racers, but signs point towards a summer release. Once some information is released, we’ll be sure to let you know.

Modnation Racers instantly became one of the most talked about titles after it’s beta release. The PlayStation 3 title became an instant fan favorite with entertaining tracks and a deep customization features. Sony will let European PSN users try out the beta, but you’ll have to be speedy as only the first 100,000 people to download will get access.

The European beta for ModNation Racers is a go as the PlayStation store for Europe is now updated, and the first 100,000 to download the demo will be in for a lot of fun.

The beta includes four tracks, 2 of the tracks are exclusive to Europe.

With the ModNation Racers US Beta recently ending this weekend, it’s time for Europe to get their own piece of  ’Play. Create. Share.’, kart style, meaning that all of PlayStation Lifestyle’s European readers will soon have a chance to play.

January 21st will be the lucky day for the first 100,000 European PSN owners who download the beta from the PSN Update that Thursday, as the Beta doesn’t officially go live until the next day. Those in the US who might have missed out on the US Beta the first time around might be able to create an European account to try for a chance to download the beta. But hey, you didn’t hear that from us.

If the EU beta is similar to the US beta, then those who get their hands on the game will be able to race on three different developer-made tracks, modify their racers, and make their very own tracks that others can race on. The beta content is limited, but just look at this post here. Although the create options are scant, fans somehow made a gazillion very believable licensed characters.

ModNation Racers is one of the most anticipated and easily one of the most original titles coming in 2010. As seen in Mark Riddell’s Track Studio Walkthrough, the creative portion of ModNation Racers is easy to grasp but deep and rich full of designable content. The great thing about the title is that not only is the creative side of the game enjoyable, but the gameplay itself is fun and satisfying.

Recently, Mat Thomas from United Front Games gave a gameplay demonstration of the racing portion of ModNation Racers. During the video Mat Thomas shows off drafting, drifting, weapons, tricks and more. The demonstration was also given on one of the several developer created maps that can be found in the ongoing closed beta for the title.

ModNation Racers is looking to continue the concept originally created by LittleBigPlanet. “Play.Create.Share” is the core concept of ModNation Racer’s gameplay. The currently ongoing limited beta is giving gamers a small taste of what the full retail game will bring, earlynext year. Sony has recently released 10 new screenshots, to wet gamers’ appetites.

The highly anticipated title ModNation Racers is currently under closed beta, and thousands of fans have had the opportunity to test out the sophisticated Track Studio for the first time since the game was announced. So far, thousands upon thousands of levels have been published, ranging from simple test tracks to more difficult layouts that have grown in popularity. The Track Studio has been easy for many to grasp, but the more advanced tools have yet to be utilised by even the more experienced modders.

Track Designer of ModNation Racers, Mark Riddell, recently showed off the advanced capabilities of the ModNation Racers Track Studio. The ability to change the complete dynamics of objects and fine-tune every last curve of the track are just some of the things that Mark Riddell explained in his short Track Studio Walkthrough. The possibilities of the Track Studio look endless, and nearly anything imaginable can be replicated within the game’s framework.

When ModNation Racers was announced back at E3 2009, millions of gamers worldwide were excited to see the ingenuity of the Play, Create and Share philosophy seen in LittleBigPlanet brought to the racing genre. For nearly half a year now ModNation Racers has only been known as one of the great titles to look forward to in 2010. As of December 18th, United Front Games have released their official closed beta to thousands of participants across the globe, and now this great-looking title is finally being explored.

As seen in the several trailers that have been released, the visuals in ModNation Racers are vibrant and colorful. Both the textures and characters have met the expectations of fans who have been desiring a Mario Kart style game with HD graphics. The first thing to note is that the game doesn’t contain a typical main menu screen. Right after the introduction within the beta, you are dropped directly into what is called a ModSpot. The ModSpot is essentially a 3D menu that contains a lobby full of other online players. In order to access the creative tools, racing, leaderboards and other content, all you have to do is drive up to the labeled locale and press a simple button. At that point you’re given either a quick option screen such as the options for which type of race you would like to join, or dropped into a building that lets you fine-tune a variety of available options.

The Create and Share aspect of ModNation Racers is truly impressive. Not only can you completely edit the way that your racer looks to your liking, but you’re also able to create your own vehicle from the ground up. All customizable options for both are purchased within the ingame store, and while the store isn’t available in the beta, there are thankfully dozens of items already included. The amount of decals, items and others is in the hundreds if not thousands, and even in the beta it’s rare to see two racers or vehicles that look exactly alike. The most impressive thing about the beta is the main focus of the game, and that’s the Track Studio. The Track Studio serves as a tool for creating and editing tracks which are then uploaded online in a similar fashion to Little Big Planet. The level of creation offered with the Track Studio tool is more than ever seen before, and while only one of three or four different environment styles is included in the beta, the amount of detail is insurmountable. Players who don’t feel inspired enough to make a detailed track can simply lay out the foundation then let the game auto-create and tune the level. Not only is is easily accessible to casual players, but the hardcore and creative will have plenty to chew on.

Of course, what’s the point of creating tracks if the racing isn’t fun? Thankfully, the gameplay itself is fresh and exciting. The racing itself is fast-paced, entertaining, and doesn’t feel like anything else on the market. ModNation Racers incorporates a lot of neat gameplay elements such as the ability to build up boost by drifting, drafting, pulling off tricks and hitting other players with weapons. The boost allows you to either shield yourself, turbo at quicker speeds or even sideswipe opponents. The mixture of intense and enjoyable racing sequences really revitalizes what many call an unprogressive genre. The game also sports leaderboards for both racing and modding, so those who are quick or creative can really stand-out. Unfortunately, the camera in the beta seems a bit too close and makes it hard to see the entirety of the track, but with the amount of feedback being given there’s a good chance that’ll change prior to release.

ModNation Racers really does look like one of the better games of 2010. The ability to create and edit both large and precise details means that both casuals and hardcore will find something to like about the title. The fast-paced gameplay with a variety of well-designed elements means that even without the creative side of the game, the game would still be enjoyable. When it comes down to it, ModNation Racers is simply a highly-entertaining game that will please a wide-variety of audiences. The ModNation Racers beta will remain available until January 10th and the full release of ModNation Racers will become available in Spring 2010.

ModNation Racers is the next game in the Play, Create, Share genre and with the beta just recently underway it looks as though people are jumping behind that motto, much like they did in Little Big Planet.  However upon looking at the screenshots below I think there are a few things that one might say about the upcoming game.  For one thing, the character creation looks 10x as deep as that in Little Big Planet and secondly, sackboy has some competition in the category of uber cute mascot.
