Sony‘s latest original and exclusive IP has out done all others before it. Sucker Punch’s open world karma based game has managed to rake in sales of 176,000 units in it’s first week! While this may seem like small potatoes original IPs generally don’t do well until they release a sequel.
[shal]NPD[/shal] group states that even though movie tie-ins are a typically reliable source of revenue for publishers, both Europe and North America have seen a significant sales decline in this area. And surprisingly enough, the box office boom has done little to help games based off popular films.
For the month of April, Sony’s PS3 only sold 127,000 units for North America. Sony ignored the poor performance completely by just concentrating in the future of PS3. Here’s what Patrick Seybold, Sony’s US comms boss said in regards to the NPD report:
