Powerful Resistance Bundle Set For Summer Release

After last week’s reveal of the box art for Resistance 3, the game’s release date of September 6th became a date circled on the calendar of many PlayStation 3 owners. In anticipation of this release for the PS3 exclusive Resistance series, the developer has announced a Greatest Hits Bundle packaging the first two games together.

An insert within the Battle: Los Angeles Blu-Ray – releasing June 14th, 2011 – announces that a Greatest Hits release containing both Resistance: Fall of Man and Resistance 2 will hit store shelves this summer with a MSRP of $39.99. The Blu-Ray insert also states that the bundle includes $10 worth of bonus content and an exclusive Resistance 3 skin. The Battle: Los Angeles Blu-Ray disc itself contains a demo of Resistance 3 playable on the PlayStation 3 console.

Resistance: Fall of Man released in North America on November 17th, 2006 and featured Sgt. Nathan Hale battling against a seemingly alien invasion in an alternate history of 1951. Resistance 2 continued Nathan Hale’s fight against the invading force as he headed from Britain to the United States and released on November 4th, 2008. Resistance 3‘s plot directly follows that of the first two games, taking place four years after the conclusion of the second game, so players still yet to play either game will now have a timely opportunity to play catch up and wage war on the Chimeran forces.

The PlayStation 3 Only Gets Greater

Sony announced today that the exclusive collection of PS3 titles, the “Greatest Hits“, are rapidly expanding, with some of the biggest and hottest titles of the past year. In all, 10 new titles are being added, which brings the total to a whopping 40. The $29.99 price tag coupled with the fact that these are some of the greatest games the PS3 has in its library, makes this an offer one cannot refuse.

Most notable of the inductees include Killzone 2, LittleBigPlanet, God of War: Collection and inFamous. Full list below:

PS3 Greatest Hits Library Gets Expanded

The Greatest Hits line-up consists of the PS3′s top titles. These games have each sold over one million copies, and now, they are being re-released with the “Greatest Hits” packaging at a reduced price, giving gamers a chance to pick up some of the best titles the PS3 has to offer at a great discount.

This week’s Walmart flyer has revealed that some new titles are being re-released as “Greatest Hits”.

The games freshly added to the Greatest Hits offering are: Killzone 2, LittleBigPlanet: GOTY Edition, Resistance 2, Infamous and UFC Undisputed 2009.

Resistance 3 Excitement Grows with Franchise Survey

The PlayStation 3 didn’t have the best launch, but it was soon followed by the release of the highly popular Resistance: Fall of Man. With its success, a series was born, with the eventual release of a sequel, Resistance 2, and a spin-off for PSP, Resistance: Retribution. It’s now been more than a year since the last Resistance release, and fans of the series are waiting to hear more.

Since the PS3‘s release in 2006, developer of the franchise Insomniac Games has been switching between Resistance, and its trademark series Ratchet & Clank. Since the latest Ratchet & Clank, A Crack in Time, released last year, we can only assume that a new Resistance will be out in 2010. And hopefully, this new survey will hint at a confirmation of our theory.

A new survey is being sent out via email, focused solely on the Resistance series. The most interesting questions asked in the survey don’t even have to do with the series’ past titles, but with the future of them – specifically Resistance 3. This isn’t a confirmation of a sequel, but hopefully, we’re growing closer to one.

An announcement for Resistance 3 has been heavily anticipated since a picture of a billboard for the title went viral.

Killzone 2 Talent Plays Role in Insomniac’s Next Game

We reported last month that a Senior Producer for Guerrilla Games had left to help design the next Metal Gear console game, Metal Gear Solid Rising. Now the Killzone 2 invasion continues..and this time, the war is coming to Insomniac Games’ Next PS3 Exclusive.

Connected Consoles discovered on Aaron Butler’s Linkedin page that the former Senior Designer for Killzone 2 is working on Insomniac’s next title at Insomniac North Carolina. Aaron joined the NC team in November and is ’designing the fun.’ He also helped out recently with Spec Ops: The Line for 2K Games.

This adds even more fuel to the fire that Insomniac’s next title is none other than Resistance 3. First, we had the billboard slip-up. Next we have the ‘Insomniac common sense schedule’ that has unfolded on the PS3: Resistance Game, Ratchet and Clank Game, repeat. Another clue is that 4 of Aaron’s 5 past games have been FPS. It’s safe to assume that their next game is Resistance 3. But you know what happens when you assume…

Rumor has it that Resistance 3 will be revealed at E3 this year. PlayStation LifeStyle will be there, so you’d better believe we’ll be reporting everything that goes down at the mother of all video game conventions.

Uncharted 2 ‘PlayStation Heroes’ DLC Confirmed for US

It was revealed yesterday that Japan will be receiving some Uncharted 2 DLC, featuring PS3 heroes, along with the Uncharted 2: Among Thieves Twin Pack. Sony have now confirmed that Uncharted 2 will indeed be getting Killzowned, worldwide.

Naughty Dog is certainly one of the best developers around, listening to what fans say and want. They hope to continue delivering enjoyment to PlayStation gamers by delivering some intriguing DLC for Uncharted 2.

The ‘PlayStation Heroes’ pack will give you the chance to run and gun through the UNCHARTED 2 online multiplayer maps with some Sony PlayStation favourites! The pack includes seven incredible character skins, where you can battle it out as good Cole, evil Cole or Zeke from inFamous; tear it up as Sgt Nathan Hale or a Chimera Hybrid soldier from the Resistance series; and defeat your enemies as a Helghast Trooper or Tomas “Sev” Sevchenko from Killzone 2.

The entertaining DLC pack will cost $4.99/£3.99.

A demo for Uncharted 2 will also be introduced next week to those who haven’t has a taste of the thrilling action-adventure exclusive. Both demo and DLC pack will be on the EU and US PlayStation Store on January 28.

Uncharted 2 To Get Killzowned

Sony Computer Entertainment Japan is about to invade Uncharted 2, bringing in a few familiar faces. Some new DLC have been announced for the game as SCEJ plan to bring some PlayStation heroes alongside Drake.

Sony Japan is putting Uncharted and Uncharted 2 back on the market in a gold slipcase. A Uncharted 2 Twin Pack will be sold for 7,980 yen ($88) when it arrives in Japan on February 18, 2010.

But that’s not all, alongside the revival of Drake in Japan, the PS3 exclusive will feature a new batch of DLC, including multiplayer skins from Resistance, Killzone and inFamous.

Finally on April 15, a third DLC will be introduced to gamers, which includes a new multiplayer co-operative mode, four multiplayer maps and multiple multiplayer skins.

There is nothing confirmed yet of if the DLC will be released outside Japan borders but you can bet with all this content, global Drake fans will bag them selves some DLC.

Ratchet and Resistance Figures Set Course to your Collection

Last May, The Official PlayStation Blog revealed that DC Unlimited was designing a series of figures based on Insomniac’s Ratchet and Clank series and for the Resistance series. Months later, the figures are finally available for purchase.

Starting today, both lineups of figures are available for purchase at your local comic book store! First up, we have the Ratchet and Clank series of action figures.

Starting from the top, we have Ratchet and Clank, then on the bottom, from left to right, Dr. Nefarious, Captain Qwark, and another Ratchet figure. As a bonus, each figure comes with a sidekick!

Next we have the Resistance series of figures from the ever popular PS3-exclusive FPS.

At the top we have the Ravager Chimera, on the left is the Steelhead Chimera, in the middle is Nathan Hale, who comes with a swarmer and on the right, the Chimera Advanced Hybrid. For those collecting the entire series, you might want to check Ebay for the standard Chimera figure that hit exclusively with the Resistance 2 limited Edition box set in November 2008.

Insomniac Acknowledges Fans Disappointment

Back when it released in 2008, Resistance 2, the sequel to the PS3 launch title, Resistance : Fall of Man, received a slew of positive and negative comments. The title did quite well, surpassing it’s predecessor on Metacritic, receiving an 87. However, a core group of fans have been repeatedly complaining about the title, calling it a downgrade from the first one.

James Stevenson of Insomniac recently talked about this issue, and the fans ultimate disappointment.
“Resistance 2 got better reviews than Resistance 1,” said Stevenson. “But the long term fan feedback from that game weighed on me.
“The hardcore fans of Resistance 1 were maybe a little bit disappointed. Those folks consistently expressing that – especially GAF [NeoGaf]- it was like your dog turned on you.
“That’s the feeling of it. You had this dog that loved you. You loved the dog, too, but they expressed all this affection for you. And then suddenly the dog bites your hand and it’s that feeling of, ooh, ow, that really hurts.”
Stevenson then went on to talk about the critics reaction to the game, and how that varied from the fans.
“The critics loved Resistance 2. Some people didn’t like it, but for the most part… And the Metacritic’s higher than Resistance 1. So we got better reviews than Resistance 1, but the overall opinion of it is that it was a failure by fans, that Resistance 2 was a failure, because maybe the expectations were so high for it.
“But that weights on you more. We talk to journalists a lot but we deal with our fans every day – and when they are disappointed… Reviewers are playing lots of games. They’re supposed to be critical.
“But the people who put their money down on our game, want to see our game be good and want to invest months of their time into our game, spend months of their time leading up to our game watching videos, reading about it, sending us questions, listening to our podcasts, investing hours and hours and being excited for our game, if they’re disappointed then it hurts more than some reviewer being pissy about a game and giving it a seven, well, okay, whatever. I can move on from that. I can ignore that. But fans that are genuinely disappointed are a lot harder to cope with.”
PSLS gave Resistance 2 a 4/5, with Joseph Peterson praising the co-op mode of the game, however noticing the lack of campaign split-screen.

Resistance 3 Prepping for Invasion

Insomniac Games is one of the premiere developers for PS3. While their most recent game, Ratchet and Clank: A Crack in Time, is scheduled for an October 27th release, they might not be content to sit back and take it easy just yet if a recent billboard sighting near Shreveport, Louisiana is to believed.

The billboard was spotted by forum user “goldsoundz” from the site NeoGAF, who went on to say:
“I saw this billboard today in Shreveport, Louisiana. There are a lot of movies filmed here, and this one is about some sort of alien takeover of Los Angeles; the name of the film escapes me at the moment. Snapped off a few photos of the billboard since I wasn’t sure if the game had been announced yet or not. If not, then I’m surprised Insomniac would be announcing it here of all places.”
Unaffiliated Hollywood movie or subtle hint from Sony? While one billboard certainly can not be considered incontrovertible evidence that this is indeed the next game Insomniac is currently working on, it nonetheless serves as a tantalizing tease for many gamers to whet their appetite for next year. Still, one has to wonder the bizarre method Insomniac or Sony employed concerning this unofficial “announcement.”

PlayStation Home Gets 1.3 Addition

PlayStation Home has been gaining a massive amount of hype recently. The PS3 application had it’s extensive new 1.3 update detailed during Gamescom, and people have not stopped clamoring about it since. Now, the people’s cries for the update can cease, as Home is getting the update, very, very, soon.
With PlayStation Home update 1.3, expect a lot of new features coming to the service, such as:
Universal Game Launching
Come this Thursday, you’ll be able to launch from Home into any game whose disc you have loaded into your PS3. This is how it works: Titles that fully support game launching (like Street Fighter IV, Resistance 2, MotorStorm, and Far Cry 2) will be identified by separate icons that appear over an avatar’s head and will have varying degrees of additional multiplayer functionality built in. Simplified game launching will take you from Home to the start menu of your favorite games with ease. Never again will you have to sign out of Home to play with (or against) your friends. Simply insert the disc of your choice while in Home and follow the on screen directions.
In-Store Item Previewing
This feature will allow you to preview items of clothing on your character in 3D (including the ability to check out multiple items simultaneously to see what combinations best suit your taste). You’ll be able to preview all furniture in 3D as well, complete with zoom and rotate options so you can check your potential purchases from all angles.
New Emotes and Actions
You can flip a coin with your friends to decide whose apartment to retreat to, or play the old “pick a number between 1 and 100” game to decide who is hosting the next party in Central Plaza. You will also be able to pose your avatar in a variety of ways, adding significantly to your ability to express yourself in-world. Heck, there are even new dances to hit the SingStar Rooms with.
More Item Types
Including limited use items (like the brand new Shrink Cake that lets you shrink your avatar to a tiny size) and portable objects (think: Bubble Machine). These will be available shortly after the launch of the client. This list of objects includes a free camera that you can use to snap pictures from either a 1st or 3rd person view. The photos will automatically be saved to the Photo section of the XMB, from which you can then upload to the picture frames you have hanging in your personal spaces. Dates for the camera and other items will be announced very soon, so stay tuned to this blog (and be sure to check the Latest Updates tab in your Menu Pad, under Community).
Tons of Improvements
We’ve added some new categories of clothing (composite and outfits) that will allow you to customize your avatar with greater ease. We’ve optimized the targeting system. We’ve fixed a bunch of the bugs you’ve been reporting on the official Home Support forum. We’re even giving you the option to determine your cache size (you can choose from 3, 5, 8, and 12 GB).
The update will also give a redesign to the Central Plaza. This includes a new World Map directly in the Central Plaza area, and directly beside this is the easy-to-use new and improved Listen@Home kiosk. Leaderboards and rewards have been added to the popular Saucer Pop game, plus a new kiosk to view rewards associated with events.
And that’s not even it. A new artistic personal space is coming to PlayStation Home, in the form of the Neptune Suite, in which a variety of built-in mini-games awaits.
