PlayStation Release Horizon – Week of June 27, 2011

While summer time action movies are consistently releasing to the box offices, this season’s gaming selection has been just as dry as the outdoors. One possibility may be that movies are more preferably accessible during vacation time than video games are. However, the fact of the matter is that a gamer’s got to game regardless of what time of year it is or what’s on the plate. This week, PS3 players can get off of their feet with a UFC licensed PlayStation Move title before relaxing with the next rendition of the popular Street Fighter IV.

Super Street Fighter IV: Arcade Edition Coming as DLC

Super Street Fighter IV was released as an expansion to the original fourth installment of the beloved franchise, but that isn’t stopping Capcom from releasing more content with another moniker tacked on.
After Yoshinori Ono talked about the possible release of this new content digitally last October, news has been pretty sparse. As it turns out, Yang, Yun, Evil Ryu and Oni will be coming to console after all, after we originally thought that this release was going to be an arcade exclusive. While the trailers that have been leaked out have since been removed by Capcom, here is the information that has been learned so far.

• This will be a DLC (Downloadable Content) release, a disc release was not mentioned.
• The console version will receive a “Supercharged online upgrade.”
• The Replay Channel has been enhanced. My Channel now enables you to send your favorite replay data to other players.
• The Elite Channel will let people view plays of players with a PP total of 3,000 or more.
• A Replay Follower will be available, allowing you to track well known players. You can find them via a search.
• Support for additional alternative costumes.
• Character balancing tweaks from the Arcade Edition release.
• The titles you pick are now shown in game, along with BP (Battle Points) and PP (Player Points).
• Versus Battles against regular SSFIV players will also be supported, Capcom states “Get out there and duke it out with the version you like best!”

While more official word will come from Capcom themselves, the most exciting news from this announcement is that people without the content can also compete with people that do have it. Unlike the previous Street Fighter IV and it’s Super-re-release and their incompatibility, anyone can play online now. These Super Street Fighter IV Costumes Would Have Been Great on Halloween

While fighting games may not necessarily be the prime destination for downloadable expansion packs, Capcom doesn’t look to let that stop them on charging consumers for content. What is it this time? Even more costumes, of course!

Halloween would have made sense to release the Ultimate Shoryuken Pack for Ryu, Ken, Dan, Gouken and Akuma, but why would a successful company do something that makes sense? You can buy this costume pack for the low, low price of $3.99. That translates to about 80 cents per costume, so that doesn’t seem like that bad of a deal unless you’re counting pennies at the counter. These are available on the PSN Store right now, so get to dressing up!

Amazon — another haven for gamers looking for a good deal — has Super Street Fighter IV on sale again for $25. Holding out for a deal can be painful, but if you were waiting for the right price so you could drop a Shinryū-ken down on a friend wait no longer.

Capcom KOs Super Street Figher IV Console DLC

Awhile back, we reported that Yoshinori Ono had plans to release an arcade version of Super Street Fighter IV (SSFIV) as DLC for both the Xbox 360 and the PS3. But now, it looks like Ono-san’s plans may have taken a blow just below the belt by Capcom.

Recently on Twitter, Producer Ono said that he is struggling with the upper echelon of Capcom to see the SSFIV arcade DLC take its place in the online market.

“I couldn’t [get] approval from [upper level staff], but I’ll continue [the] proposal! I got approval from my boss, Keiji Inafune, but I can’t [get] it from [upper level staff].”

It’s great to know that Ono-san hasn’t tossed in the towel yet on this match. Perhaps we will see this addition hit the PSN market, just not any time soon.

More Super Street Fighter IV Alternate Costumes Incoming

Even months after release, Capcom are still releasing Super Street Fighter IV content. Over the next few months, the publisher will be giving players their favorite Street Fighter characters new looks via DLC.

More info and a look at all the goods are available over at Capcom’s official website. The timing and pricing vary by platform, but the first packs will hit the PlayStation Network as well as Xbox Live on October 26th, 2010. Take a look at the screenshots for the upcoming costume packs below.

SSFIV Roster Growing Even More Super

Super Street Fighter IV, which was published by Capcom, added a ton of fresh new content to the already plentifully filled Street Fighter IV. The game itself added not only added new fighters to the roster, but also introduced several game modes as well. Given the success, there seems to be a rumor based upon a flyer stating there will be more characters as well. Read on for full details.

The flyer that has been going around states a simple question/statement in Japanese text.

“Here comes new challengers?!”

This could easily relate to the arcade release of Super Street Fighter IV, but just as easily to upcoming downloadable content. So who out there would be willing to pick up some more characters for their copy of the game?

The Tale of Two Namco Vs. Capcoms

Just last week PlayStation LifeStyle reported that Super Street Fighter IV Producer Yoshinori Ono had a “new game” in development. But a new rumor has come out that no one ever saw coming.

Last week at EVO 2010, the World Fighting Finals, Namco Bandai’s Katsuhiro Harada and Capcom’s Yoshinori Ono took the stage together for a speech. Although no concrete information was given, an announcement that a certain “fighting game debut trailer” will go live this Saturday at Comic-Con. What could it be?

Well, according to GameInformer, TWO separate games are coming: Namco Vs. Capcom and Capcom Vs. Namco. No you didn’t read that incorrectly. The two companies obviously collaborating, but will handle the development separately. Capcom will create a Street Fighter-eqsue experience, with 2.5D graphics and ultra combos, while Namco will create a fighting game with the Tekken 6 engine, with full arena movement and in-depth physical combos. This is not the developers first foray into cross promotion, with fans remembering the Japan-only tactical RPG, Namco × Capcom. Looks like we’ll find out later this week at Comic-Con, be sure to stay tuned!

Street Fighter IV Producer to Announce New Game at Comic-Con

Fighting games have had a resurgence of popularity in the last few years, with such recent titles as King of Fighters XII, Street Fighter IV, BlazBlue: Calamity Trigger, and the upcoming Marvel Vs. Capcom 3. Looks like the fever hasn’t stopped, with more being announced all the time.

With the massive fighting tournament EVO 2010 now in the history books, it’s time to move on to bigger and better things. The top of Super Street Fighter IV producer Yoshinori Ono’s schedule looks like it’s going to be Comic-Con 2010 now, with a new game to announce. According to a recent tweet, Ono said:

“I finally hope to reveal a bit about what I’ve been relentlessly working on lately..But there is Evo 2010 first…and I haven’t packed yet!”What will it be?

A new Darkstalkers game? Maybe. Will it be Capcom vs. SNK 3? Well, while Ono has denied it, David Jaffe and his new Twisted Metal game are enough proof that people lie. As soon as anything is announced, PlayStation LifeStyle will be the first to let you know.

Ono Hinting At Something Bigger Than Super Street Fighter IV

Street Fighter creator, Yoshi Ono has recently released a rather curious tweet on his Twitter account that has gamers everywhere speculating as to what it might mean…

The legendary Capcom developer has this to say:

Super SF4 on sale!! SuperSF4 is nothing compared to what’s coming!!

Besides the awesome announcement that SSF4 is now on sale at what seems to be Japan, the fact that Ono has announced that something could trounce SSF4 makes this twit rather interesting to say the least.

What could this mysterious twit mean? Another magnanimous Street Fighter? Or maybe it has something to do with the new impressive Nintendo 3Ds? Let’s just hope that it’s not Super Street Fighter IV Turbo Hyper Fighting Edition Remix…

New Super Street Fighter IV DLC is Beautiful

Capcom is once again hard at work churning out more downloadable content for everyone’s favorite fighter, Super Street Fighter IV. This time the team decided to cater to the ladies in the line-up, offering an array of new, alternate outfits, which seems to be the norm with essentially all Street Fighter DLC lately.

This new costume pack simply goes by the name of the “Super Beauty Pack” and will be available in this week’s PlayStation Store update for the usual price of $3.99, which still seems a bit pricey for a costume pack, if you ask me. It appears all but obvious that, based on consumer feedback, Capcom is milking its fans when it comes to this DLC, as none of it has been free, even with loyal fans shelling out another $40 for Super Street Fighter IV in addition to their copy of the original Street Fighter IV, thus sky-rocketing sales numbers.

Super Street Fighter IV Update Offers More Than You Expect

Capcom will be releasing a new update next month which sees a new mode being introduced in Super Street Fighter IV. But that’s not all the update will include as the developers have announced the gameplay tweaks which will be included as well.

The fighter’s assistant producer, Tomoaki Ayano has said that not only will the June update include a free tournament mode, but also various gameplay tweaks which players have reported to be having issues with.

Certain Fei Long combos turning into an endless combo
When you unleash an Ultra Combo and time freezes, your guard input cancels out. This, Ayano admitted, is actually something that was known prior to the release, but they left it in as an interesting play mechanic. After the game’s release, they realized that there were a number of characters that ended up in being able to unleash their Ultra Combos with no risk.
The effect of Sagat’s Angry Charge move does not reflect on his EX Tiger Uppercut in some circumstances.
Counter damage against Bison’s Ultra Combo II Psycho Punisher move is too low
When Ibuki attacks a ducking Chun-Li, the second hit of the attack will not register
When Ibuki rises from the ground in certain instances, she’ll retain her invincibility for a long time.

The update is currently scheduled for a release on June 15th.

2010 FIFA World Cup Shoots Its Way Into UK Charts

EA Sports’ FIFA 10 sold an accumulative 10 million units making it the best and fastest selling sports games of all time. The next football title from EA comes in the form of 2010 FIFA World Cup and it comes to no surprise that it has shot its way into the UK charts.

2010 FIFA World Cup has taken top spot in the latest UK charts. Another debut in the UK charts is Capcom’s Super Street Fighter IV while the recently released European version of God of War Collection occupies 10th position.

Super Street Fighter IV Ships Over 1 Million Units

Street Fighter IV is without a doubt, one of the best fighters of this console generation. The Street Fighter franchise remains firm and strong as it always has and Capcom continued this success with Super Street Fighter IV. The series continues to boast strong sale figures with SSFIV already reaching a pivotal milestone.

Capcom has announced that Super Street Fighter IV has shipped 1 million units worldwide since its release on Tuesday. The incredible milestone racks up an accumulative of over 28 million copies sold for the franchise.

Yet another dreadful work week has passed, and with that, us gamers like to kick back and unwind by popping our favorite games into our favorite console. We here at PlayStation LifeStyle are no different. Find out what the PSLS staff will be playing this weekend, and share your very own weekend gaming playlist.

I can start as always. My name is Cameron Teague and I am a Contributing Editor here at PSLS. This weekend is a bit slow in the gaming department but I have a few to play. Still playing my way through God of War III and NHL 10 but going to spend most of my time knocking out a Nier review. If gamefly gets it to me in time, I will start my other review for Harvest Moon: Hero of Leaf Valley.

Now lets see just what the rest of the staff plans to be playing this weekend.

I’ll be finishing my review of Hysteria Project.

I am going to pick up the uncharted dlc and play that all weekend, or at least until I rage quit from being choked by those ninjas all the time. I’ve had my back up against a wall and yet a ninja manages to get behind me and choke me. I’ll also be working on my new borderlands character (lvl. 29!). Of course, I’m playing with Mordecai. Being able to kill enemies with one shot of your sniper makes you feel like such a badass in that game. I played online with a guy who had a Brick character that had an rpg that shot out giant electrical nuclear bombs. He killed everything in one hit, but you could never see what was going on. That’s nowhere near as fun as seeing a guy run toward you, and then see the figure slump over into the ground. Also, playing with sirens annoy me. they always activate phase shift and run far ahead of me, leaving me all alone. If any of you readers play as sirens, just know that ditching your partners is not cool!

This weekend, I will be indulging in Blue Toad Murder Files, which I am really excited for. Other than that, perhaps a Fallout 3 session will be in the works.

I’ve started a new RTTS Pitcher in MLB 10: The Show so I will be muddling through his minor league career this weekend in hopes of getting called up.

I’m leaving for an EA Canada skate 3 event on Sunday morning (expect coverage!), so I’m not going to have a ton of time for gaming this weekend. But I’ll probably play some GTA IV: The Ballad of Gay Tony and Afterburner Climax. My PSP shall see ModNation Racing, LittleBigPlanet and probably little else!

This weekend I’ll be trying to learn freakishly long combos in
Super Street Fighter 4, trying to speed up my brain to understand Afterburner Climax, and finally finishing off GTA IV
