Ninja Gaiden 3 Online Pass Gives Error For Players, PS3 Version To Be Fixed Soon

Ninja Gaiden 3 officially comes out today, but many gamers who purchased the game have faced an error message saying that their online code to play online is invalid.

Although this doesn’t affect everybody, a quick twitter search of “Ninja Gaiden Online Pass” will reveal many unhappy consumers of Tecmo’s latest hack-and-slash. Tecmo said on Facebook:

We are aware of the issue with the Online Pass for Ninja Gaiden 3 and are working to resolve the issue. For those of you with the PlayStation 3 version of the game, the online pass will be redeemable by 4pm Pacific time. For those of you with the Xbox 360 version, we are currently working with Microsoft to resolve the issue and we will keep you updated.
Thank you for your patience as we work to resolve this matter.

PSN Review – Tecmo Bowl Throwback

Before Madden was king, the Tecmo Bowl series, which was largely popular on the NES and SNES, was easily one the most popular football franchises of its time. The games still have quite a respectable following to this day, so it’s no surprise that when Tecmo Bowl Throwback was announced, fans rejoiced in excitement at the thought of a revamped Tecmo Bowl. The game itself is a complete remake of the original Tecmo Super Bowl, but does the ‘throwback’ live up to the lofty expectations that many fans have for the game, or should they stick to the classics that were released so long ago?

There is one huge difference between this title and the original Tecmo Super Bowl. When the original came out, Madden didn’t have the NFL License back in 1993, which allowed Super Tecmo Bowl to have NFL teams and rosters. Seeing as how Madden acquired this license in 2004, both NFL players and teams had to be removed from this version of the game. This is the only real difference, besides the updated visuals, that has been changed from the original release.

There are a total of 30 teams to play with, 2 of which are all star teams. For those that are bothered by the names of teams and players, both are customizable through the menu options. Simply go in and change them accordingly to get the teams that you want. You could even recreate the entire NFL roster if you so chose, by just simply renaming players. There are a total of five playable modes, Pre-Season, Season, Tecmo All Stars, Local Multiplayer, and Online Multiplayer. The two modes I found myself playing and getting the most enjoyment out of would definitely be the Season and Multiplayer modes. It brought a great nostalgic feeling over me as I tackled friends in the multiplayer modes, I felt like I was back in 1993 again.

The game’s controls have not changed at all. So for those looking for a complicated control scheme or a completely realistic game definitely need to look elsewhere. Besides the analog stick used for controlling the player, only two buttons are used in the game. One optional feature is the ability to easily switch between the old-school, original graphics and the new graphics with the simple push of a button, which can be done at any time without the need for pausing. A very interesting touch.

The revamped graphics look great, giving the title a brand new look and feel. Occasionally cutscenes will pop up when something big is happening within the game – which can be anything from a interception to a huge pass play to your wide receiver. Another time when this will occur is if one of your players reaches a certain milestone within an individual game, such as your runningback gaining a total of 100 yards rushing for the game.

Tecmo Bowl Throwback manages to achieve what it set out to do, delivering a nostalgic trip down memory lane, while adding a fresh lick of paint and an online multiplayer. While this will scare off some gamers that never got to experience the original, it will attract fans of the series who remember playing for hours on end against a friend or CPU, making it a must have title for those that enjoyed the series when they were younger.

Tecmo Bowl Throwback Rated by the ESRB

The ESRB, with their pre-release ratings, are now known for spoiling announcements for various unknown titles. Case in point: it seems the return to Tecmo Bowl is imminent, thanks to a new listing made by the software rating company.

Tecmo Bowl Throwback has been rated by the ESRB. The title has been given an “E for Everyone” rating, and is described as “a top-down arcade-style football game in which players compete against teams around the country to become the ‘Tecmo Bowl Champion.’” No other information comes from the listing, but the game does “depict cheerleaders wearing low-cut tops while dancing,” as well as “a 2D swimsuit model with some exposed cleavage.” Oh, the horror. Quantum Theory Shoots Critics With New Screens & Release Date

Tecmo had excited fans when they announced Quantum Theory would be released as a PS3 exclusive, but they ate their own words as they decided to turn it multiplatform. Tecmo Koei’s have announced when the shooter will be making its way to the UK.

In a already populated western shooter market, Tecmo’s latest attempt comes in the form of what once was a PS3 exclusive, Quantum Theory. Tecmo-Koei have confirmed to CVG that the title will be released on March 26, 2010 in the UK. In a month blessed with so many titles such as the likes of God Of War III and Final Fantasy XIII, one wonders if gamers will take the time to try the 3rd person shooter out.

Heavily compared to Epic’s Gears Of War series, Quantum Theory has received some new screenshots to showcase its potential to the shooter scene. Check them out below:

Tecmo Bowl Throwback Could Be A Reality

For those that have never experienced the greatness of Tecmo Super Bowl I truly feel sorry for you. This is one of all my time favorite sports titles growing up. The amount of time spent scoring TD’s with Bo Jackson alone makes the game all the more memorable. The game is fun, simple, addictive, and brings out the competitive nature in sports fans.

So to hear news that a re-release of the title is a possibility, it is bound to lead to some excitement from long-time fans of the title.

Rumor has it that this title will be released via the PlayStation Network and Xbox Live Arcade. All of this information has come from a trusted source who provided this exclusive information to Joystiq. This will not just be the same old title rehashed either. It will be completely overhauled with HD graphics and updated soundtrack. Joystiq also states there will be the ability to create your own team as well. Not only that but for those that want to experience the original without the spruced up graphics just need to select via the options and they will be launched it to the original retro title with all it’s glory.

Quantum Theory Dices Up a New Trailer in Real-Time

It has certainly been a while since we’ve heard from the Japanese third-person shooter, Quantum Theory. The originally PlayStation 3-exclusive, now multiplatform, new intellectual property from Tecmo has finally been let out of the tower with a brand-new, real-time gameplay trailer. Primarily in the perspective of protagonist Syd, the video further reminds us of its Gears of War-esque similarity as the masculine hero (or villain?) slices and dices through the enemies and environments. As we can see, there is plenty of gory melee, some platforming, and gunplay galore. While the game is set to pit the character against the tower he’s traveling in, a refreshing change found in the trailer is the outdoor levels, which gives us more faith in the diversity of the environments. After all, variety and ubiquity are some of the key factors in the success of critically acclaimed titles like Uncharted 2 and God of War.

Dead or Alive Series Alive and Well; Coming to PS3

In the latest issue of PlayStation: The Official Magazine UK much new information has surfaced about already announced games. However there is one game mentioned that hasn’t yet been officially announced for the PlayStation 3.

Team Ninja’s Dead of Alive series has long been synonymous with the Xbox brand, mainly due to Itagaki’s (Dead of Alive and Ninja Gaiden series creator) love for Microsoft’s console. Ever since DOA 3, each following installment of Dead or Alive has been released on a Xbox console. Fortunately for PS3 owners Itagaki is longer working under TECMO which owns the Dead or Alive IP. This lead to speculation that Dead or Alive could follow Ninja Gaiden over to the PlayStation 3.

Just recently, Dead or Alive: Paradise was announced for the PSP, which further fueled hopes of the Dead or Alive series making its way onto the PlayStation 3. Now, in the latest issue of PlayStation: The Official Magazine, it’s been “rumored” that Dead or Alive 5 is in development on the PlayStation 3. Exactly what fans had been hoping for since Itagaki’s departure from TECMO.

Although this reveal was in the Rumour Machine section of the magazine, going by the other listed “rumors”, Dead or Alive 5 is as good as confirmed. Almost all other “rumors” listed have either been announced or have been discussed recently.

Quantum Theory Going Multiplatform

Quantum Theory, Tecmo‘s latest attempt to squeeze into the popular shooter market in the West, was for the longest time proudly touted as a PlayStation 3 exclusive. It looks like things have changed.

Tecmo recently issued a press release stating that “QUANTUM THEORY™ will be a multiplatform release on the PlayStation®3 computer entertainment system and the Xbox 360®video game and entertainment system from Microsoft.” No reason has been given for the sudden change of heart for this Japanese developer towards releasing this game as a multiplatform title, but it really is anyone’s guess at this point.

For the uninitiated, Quantum Theory is a third-person shooter with a world that constantly shifts due to combat that takes place in a living, breathing tower. It has drawn comparisons to the popular Gears of War franchise even though it is Japanese-developed. Look for the game in Spring of 2010 on both platforms, and stay with PlayStation LifeStyle for more information on this game.

NBA Unrivaled Makes Fast Break Toward PSN

NBA Unrivaled is Tecmo’s attempt to bring back the arcade basketball games such as Tecmo NBA Basketball or the always hilarious NBA Jam. Due today for the PSN, it will be available as a downloadable title only, for $14.99.

The game will include real, licensed players with current rosters. It will support multiplayer both online and off, with modes including player versus player and two players versus the CPU. Players will also be able to unlock alternative and retro jerseys as well as other goodies. Look forward to it later today when the PlayStation Store updates.

Ninja Gaiden Sigma 2 Literally Bring Out the Big Guns

When Tecmo brought out the big guns for E3 2009, we never thought it would come to this: On a marketing ad for the PlayStation 3 exclusive, Ninja Gaiden Sigma 2, a street wall advertisement contains a real representation of said “big guns”.

As shown in the video above, the advert is designed to simulate what looks like a woman hanging onto the edge behind the wall with her “guns” hanging out. At the bottom are the logos for Tecmo and Ninja Gaiden Sigma 2, reminding us that it’s all in good promotion. Still, it brings up the question of why Japanese adverts are so strange. Should US advertising take a page from Japan’s book?

Ninja Gaiden Sigma 2 will hit store shelves on September 29, 2009.

Ryu Gets Backup in Ninja Gaiden Sigma 2

Team Ninja isn’t quite finished with Ninja Gaiden Sigma 2 and they are on schedule for a fall release. Word is from Famitsu that Ryu will get a little help in this up and coming ninja blood-fest. Tecmo has upped the bar with the addition of “Team Mission” mode.

“Team Missions” bring a variety of online enabled single level missions designed for co-op gameplay. Each player is free to select their avatar, or AI buddies are available. Expect a barrage of enemies and some of the challenging boss battles Ninja Gaiden is known for.
