Get All Three Uncharted Soundtracks on PSN Now

Uncharted 3: Drake’s Deception has it all: epic shootouts, blockbuster cinematics, and even a killer soundtrack. Lucky for you, you can download at least one of those right now on the PlayStation Network.

Naughty Dog and Sony are now offering the Uncharted 3 soundtrack on PSN for $9.99. They also announced that you’ll be able to purchase a physical copy of it when it hits store shelves on November 15th at Best Buy, Barnes and Noble, Fry’s Electronics, iTunes, and Amazon.com.

Additionally, you can grab the Uncharted: Drake’s Fortune and Uncharted 2: Among Thieves soundtracks off PSN for $5.99 now, or wait until next week for the $9.99 combo pack featuring both.

Uncharted Series Becomes a Shining Star with Over 8 Million Sales

The Uncharted series might only have been born four years ago, but time isn’t everything. Its extremely positive reception has propelled it to stardom commercially, and has made it one of the best-selling games on the PlayStation 3 with some impressive numbers that have finally been tallied.

According to a press release by SCEJ, Naughty Dog’s Uncharted series has totaled eight million sales across two releases. Uncharted 2: Among Thieves makes up the majority of sales with its 4.9 million, which will hit five million shortly with the recent release of the Uncharted: Dual Pack.

Uncharted 2 is one of the highest-rated games of this generation, so these numbers don’t come as much of a surprise. The question is, can Uncharted 3: Drake’s Deception top its predecessors? With a larger install base on the PS3, and a growing reputation, its only roadblock is standing out during this year’s heavy line-up of hot titles. Naughty Dog has stated that Uncharted 3 encompasses their many years of cumulative experience and goes even bigger than the previous title. We’ll have to wait and see how well that translates into the experience once it arrives next month.

Uncharted 2 Hits Late Night TV in Japan, Spoils Game for Everyone

The land of the rising sun is full of strange ideas and crazy concepts that make me scratch my head while wondering things along the lines of “Why? How? And, what the hell?” Uncharted on late night TV is no different.

As Uncharted 3: Drake’s Deception gears up to release next month, now would be a great time to promote the previous games in the series and get the public hyped for the latest sequel. It seems Sony is on the ball with that, but their ideas for how to do so in Japan are a little unorthodox. A new television program launched yesterday, October 3rd, for late night on Tokyo TV in Japan, titled UnchaTV.

UnchaTV seems to exist for the purpose of promoting Uncharted 2: Among Thieves, but is more like an enormous spoilers reel. Rather than a simple advertisement, the program has taken all of the cut scenes from Uncharted 2 and spliced them together into 16 episodes with a total run time of 64 minutes. In between the scenes are two actors discussing the game, with one as a boyfriend trying to convince his non-gamer girlfriend how they can enjoy the game together, despite the lack of a local co-op mode. Good luck with that one buddy, but you better put that controller in her hand for even a remote shot at success.

Sony has rarely been known for having a good marketing strategy in the past, or much of one at all, so this isn’t a surprising move, but still an oddity worth laughing at. Hopefully they have a better plan for promoting Uncharted 3 in Europe and North America, because it certainly deserves it.

God of War III, Heavy Rain and More Added to ‘Greatest Hits’

Nathan Drake’s Journal Perfectly Replicated

Every treasure hunter needs information. Whether he gets his tips and tricks from a map, a shady source, or completely by accident, the hunter needs a place to keep it all. Nathan Drake may only be fictional, but it appears that his journal isn’t.

And no, it isn’t an officially licensed product from Naughty Dog. Over on the Replica Prop Forums, user Darth Saber has put together what appears to be the ultimate video game replica: Nathan Drake’s journal from Uncharted 2: Among Thieves. Taking weeks, if not a few months, Darth Saber worked with others on the RP Forums to recreate painstakingly realistic 50 pages of paper, tickets, coins and drawings by Saber himself. Looking through these pages, they look so good that I thought he must have gotten some clippings from a real textbook! Saber has admitted though that this replica isn’t completely accurate. He’s missing two dried flowers that he’s been searching weeks for, but couldn’t get a hold of. So he just put it together.

Barring that small discrepancy, enjoy one of the coolest video games props ever.

Amazon Makes Good on Black Friday PS3 Bumble

Well it turns out…it was. Amazon seems to be sending out emails that let everyone know of the mistake and what they intend to do to fix it.

ICO Inspired the Wide Success of the Uncharted Series

Every developer is granted inspiration when they sit down to make a game and Naughty Dog is no different. The team behind the successful Uncharted series has revealed one of their biggest inspirations, ICO. The game that was created by the legendary Team ICO is directly responsible for inspiring the Naughty Dog team on all of their projects, even the current one which is likely the rumored Uncharted 3.

Speaking to OPM readers after Uncharted 2: Among Theives was voted the greatest PlayStation game of all-time, Naughty Dog boss Evan Wells let loose that his game wouldn’t have been his number 1 pick, instead opting for Grand Theft Auto III or ICO.

“They’re pretty different games, but they’ve both influenced the industry tremendously. [ICO's] the kind of game – that linear, narrative-driven experience – that we’re focused on making right now.
Everyone in the office has been influenced by it greatly; it’s just a fantastic game.”

Sony also sees the value in the title with a remastered collection of ICO and Shadow Of The Colossus in glorious HD and full 3D releasing next year in the form of the Team ICO Collection.

Uncharted 3 Hinted at in Middle East Localization Deal

A new localization deal between Rubicon Group Holding and the Modern Electronics Company (MEC), a leading distributor of Sony products in the Middle East, is looking to break down the content barriers that have resulted in the banning of numerous big-name titles in the region by modifying existing game content for the Saudi Arabian market. Speaking with the press, a Rubicon executive happened to mention quite an interesting title… Uncharted 3.

In passing, Ghassan Ayoubi, executive director of Rubicon Holding, mentioned that FIFA 11 and the third installment in the Uncharted franchise could be among the first games to be “Arabised and localized” for the Middle Eastern market. Now, one could look at this in one of two ways; either Mr. Ayoubi was talking about the newly released Uncharted 2: Game of The Year Edition, or he wasn’t. Which leaves the obvious assumption that he was talking about Uncharted 3, yes, you heard us right. It’s already safe to assume that a third Uncharted title is well on it’s way based off of the phenomenal success of the series leading up to this point. But could this perhaps foretell that Uncharted 3 has already been plotted out, with developers now in place to implement “Arab features” and characters? We’d like to think so.

Naughty Dog Took “Several Weeks” To Develop Uncharted 2 Dynamic Theme

Naughty Dog, perhaps the hardest working, most ambitious game development team of our time, are well known for pointing out just how much time and effort they put into creating the AAA-titles we’ve come to know and love on the PlayStation 3, but just because they’re developing a theme this time doesn’t mean they put in any less work.

Responding to various user’s comments on the Official US PlayStation Blog, Arne Meyer, Community Strategist for Naughty Dog, took the liberty of explaining just how much much is actually going on in the new Uncharted 2 dynamic theme processing-wise, and how long it actually took the development team to finish what is looking to be the most impressive dynamic theme to date.

Arne went on to state the following:

“We’re actually not limited to filesize but rather the amount of memory/processing we can use to run all the various effects — fog, scrolling, 3D, animation, snow, etc. It’s just a matter of learning how to squeeze more and more out of those limited resources. But for how “simple” our theme looks, it’s still relatively technically involved — our snow and fog are actually full particle effects.”
“This actually took us several weeks of work to get something that looks great quality wise and has all that we’re trying to do with it — scrolling, the Drake model and great animation, the particle effects of the fog and snow. Definitely wasn’t easy by any means.”

If there’s one company we can attribute to helping us get our money’s-worth out of the PS3′s cell processor, it’s Naughty Dog, as they really do seem to make each and every project they work on, big or small, a total masterpiece. The Uncharted 2 dynamic theme is set to go live on August 17th for $2.99. Nathan Drake and Ratchet Crack Their Price In Europe

What if I told you that you could pickup one of the top three, if not the BEST game to grace the PlayStation 3 yet, Uncharted 2: Among Thieves, for $30 brand new? What if I told you could do the same for the newest Ratchet and Clank Future Game, A Crank in Time? I have some very wonderful news for our European fans and not so wonderful news for our US fans.

So why is this news not so wonderful for our US fans? Simply because SCEE has announced that Uncharted 2: Among Thieves and Ratchet and Clank Future: A Crack in Time will both join the ‘Platinum Hit’ line of reduced price gaming. Talk about lucky! SCEA on the other hand, has said nothin’ about it. Heck It took SCEA 2 years before they even dropped the price for either Tools of Destruction or the original Uncharted, yet 7 months later and the sequels for both titles will officially drop in-price on June 11th. You win this time, Europe..

Seriously though, U2:AT and R&C: ACIT are two of the best PS3 exclusives released yet. For that price, all of our European fans who have yet to purchase either game need to do ASAP on June 11th. Yet another dreadful work week has passed, and with that, us gamers like to kick back and unwind by popping our favorite games into our favorite console. We here at PlayStation LifeStyle are no different. Find out what the PSLS staff will be playing this weekend, and share your very own weekend gaming playlist.

I can start as always. My name is Cameron Teague and I am a Contributing Editor here at PSLS. This weekend is a bit slow in the gaming department but I have a few to play. Still playing my way through God of War III and NHL 10 but going to spend most of my time knocking out a Nier review. If gamefly gets it to me in time, I will start my other review for Harvest Moon: Hero of Leaf Valley.

Now lets see just what the rest of the staff plans to be playing this weekend.

I’ll be finishing my review of Hysteria Project.

I am going to pick up the uncharted dlc and play that all weekend, or at least until I rage quit from being choked by those ninjas all the time. I’ve had my back up against a wall and yet a ninja manages to get behind me and choke me. I’ll also be working on my new borderlands character (lvl. 29!). Of course, I’m playing with Mordecai. Being able to kill enemies with one shot of your sniper makes you feel like such a badass in that game. I played online with a guy who had a Brick character that had an rpg that shot out giant electrical nuclear bombs. He killed everything in one hit, but you could never see what was going on. That’s nowhere near as fun as seeing a guy run toward you, and then see the figure slump over into the ground. Also, playing with sirens annoy me. they always activate phase shift and run far ahead of me, leaving me all alone. If any of you readers play as sirens, just know that ditching your partners is not cool!

This weekend, I will be indulging in Blue Toad Murder Files, which I am really excited for. Other than that, perhaps a Fallout 3 session will be in the works.

I’ve started a new RTTS Pitcher in MLB 10: The Show so I will be muddling through his minor league career this weekend in hopes of getting called up.

I’m leaving for an EA Canada skate 3 event on Sunday morning (expect coverage!), so I’m not going to have a ton of time for gaming this weekend. But I’ll probably play some GTA IV: The Ballad of Gay Tony and Afterburner Climax. My PSP shall see ModNation Racing, LittleBigPlanet and probably little else!

This weekend I’ll be trying to learn freakishly long combos in
Super Street Fighter 4, trying to speed up my brain to understand Afterburner Climax, and finally finishing off GTA IV

I’ll be playing plenty of Super Street Fighter IV or as I like to call it, ‘getting my ass kicked online’.

I can start as always. My name is Cameron Teague and I am a Contributing Editor here at PSLS. This weekend I have a ton of games to play and very little time to do it. When i do find some time i will finally be taking my spartan to battle in God of War III, Solving a mystery in Heavy Rain and tempting fate in Resonance of Fate. Other than that the steady dose of NHL 10, a glimpse into Modnation Racers with the PSP demo and Monsters (Probably) Stole my Princess for review.

Now lets see just what the rest of the staff plans to be playing this weekend.

I’ll be playing Hysteria Project, which I’m very interested in playing! Then I’ll be going back to PixelJunk Shooter, as it’s been weeks since I’ve played it.

I am trying to finish up Ratchet & Clank: A Crack in Time, which I might add is a fantastic title. I’ll be playing some Just Cause 2 or Bayonetta next while waiting for the legendary May PS3 line-up of ModNation Racers, Skate 3 and Red Dead Redemption.

Personally, I’ll be indulging in the awesomeness that is Fallout 3. Other than that, I think I’m going to look back on all my old, good, online titles. Killzone 2, Resistance: Fall of Man, Warhawk…look out!

In honor of the NBA playoffs I have started playing NBA Live 10. Between
that and a BBQ, I should be busy all weekend.

With all the recent new content, I’ve gotten interested in Uncharted 2 multiplayer again. The new Siege mode and maps are awesome. I might also spend some more time with Episodes from Liberty City.

I am going to be playing the first Wii game I have bought since the week after I bought the Wii — a little game called Monster Hunter Tri. Eventually I will awake in a daze from my monster hunting binge to finish my recent return to Infamous for my evil/hard playthrough. Bad grammar aside, i will inevitably get back to powering through to my next prestige in MW2.

Good news! I finally beat God of War III last weekend, which means I can finally focus on getting my first platinum trophy which will be Heavy Rain’s ultimate prize. Hopefully. I’ll also be getting prepped for Super Street Fighter IV which hits next Tuesday, but you already know that.

Uncharted 2: Among Thieves Receives Update 1.07

Uncharted 2′s latest expansion, ‘Siege’, arrives on the PSN later today. It adds a new co-op mode, ‘Siege’, 2 new maps, and six skins for the nice price of $5.99. Naughty Dog has let it be known that not only will the expansion hit today, but a new title update will accompany it. We have all the details you need to check out to see what has been changed.

Thanks to the Mighty fine folks over at the official Naughty Dog website, we now know that the following changes will be made sometime this afternoon:

Players can now select a Hero skin through their online profile for Co-op Arena matches only
Additional spawn system changes to enhance spawn point update effectiveness
Gameplay changes to prevent “airwalk” exploit by players
Updates to map geometry collision detection to improve prevention of players attempting to leave normal multiplayer map boundaries

What do all these changes mean? Now your opponents can’t camp out around your respawn points and cheaters chances of winning just decreased quite a bit. Seriously..if you have to cheat to win, how is there any validation in that?

Uncharted 2: Among Thieves is, in this writer’s opinion, the best game on the PlayStation 3. With over 175 industry awards, including 32 Game of the Year Awards, you need to give the game a chance if you still haven’t. Look for the ‘Siege’ Expansion and the title update later today.

Uncharted 2 ‘Siege’ Expansion Pack DLC Detailed; Trophy List

Since its release Uncharted 2 has deservedly received numerous awards and plenty of acclaim from critics and fans alike. Now close to 6 months from the blockbuster game’s release, Sony and Naughty Dog have unveiled details on an upcoming Uncharted 2 expansion pack titled Siege.

On April 22, the ‘Siege Expansion Pack’ will be released on the PlayStation Network. The DLC will be the game’s first add-on co-op game mode, which also includes 2 new maps, 6 multiplayer skins, and 11 new trophies for you to unlock. Here are the full details below:

Co-op Game Type

Siege
Pits 2 or 3 players against the AI.
Objective: capture and hold the territory against the waves of increasingly difficult AI adversaries. All players must be in the territory to capture it, so it’s a constant battle to keep the AI from assaulting the player’s position.
Players compete in one territory per round and the territory changes location every round.

2 Multiplayer Maps

The Highrise
Towering over the streets of Nepal, The Highrise is a map with plenty of opportunities for players to get the high ground on their opponents. Set on a series of destroyed and under-construction buildings, players need to be on their toes as there are many different jump locations and paths around the map. Players should also watch out for the incoming airstrikes, as they can clear the rooftops in seconds.

The Museum
Set at dusk amongst the courtyards and display cases at the site of Drake and Flynn’s heist, The Museum provides players with a mix of intense gameplay covering traversing across rooftops, dodging gunfire through twisting corridors, and close quarters fighting. Players need to watch their backs as there are numerous flank routes in all parts of this circular map. Players should also learn the secret climbing routes that will allow them to get the drop on their opponents.

Uncharted 2 Didn’t “Redefine Action Games”, PS3 to Blame

Last October, gamers who had not jumped on the PS3 bandwagon finally had a reason to do so. Uncharted 2: Among Thieves debuted to fantastic praise due to its gameplay, story, graphics, and incredible action. But did Uncharted 2 redefine the action genre in video games? According to Dave Cox, producer of Castlevania: Lords of Shadow, it didn’t.

Speaking with the magazine PSM3, Cox discussed Uncharted 2. Since he is producer on Castlevania: Lords of Shadow, it’s not surprising to see discussions on the action genre. However, what is surprising is the response he gives.

“Visually Uncharted 2 is beautiful and it impresses me technically. But does Uncharted 2 redefine 3rd person action games? I don’t think that it does. Uncharted 2 is a great game and I enjoyed it immensely. The standouts are the story and the voice acting. [But] Uncharted was a single format release. If any game is going to set a benchmark for a genre it would need to do so across multiple platforms.”

Uncharted 2: Among Thieves released in October of last year. Castlevania: Lords of Shadow is being scheduled for release sometime in 2010.
