Uncharted 3 Content Drops Into PlayStation Store

While all the buzz may be surrounding the recently unveiled Uncharted 3: Drake’s Deception trailer, Naughty Dog is getting into the festive mood by releasing a mammoth of Uncharted 3-related goodies onto the PlayStation Store – for both European and North American stores.

The Uncharted 3 content on the North American PlayStation Store includes:

Naughty Dog is also running an Uncharted 2 sale where all of the game’s multiplayer DLC bundles will be given special discounts for the duration of 3 weeks. These include:

To celebrate Uncharted 2‘s one year anniversary, developers at Naughty Dog have decided to shower its dedicated fans with amazing gifts and one amazing opportunity. Today, October 16, 2010, anyone who hops onto multiplayer will be awarded more XP, a free tee, and a chance to team up with or kill Uncharted‘s creators.

From 12:01 a.m. to 11:59 p.m. (PDT), anyone who jumps onto Uncharted 2‘s multiplayer will gain 5x the normal amount of XP. They will also get an exclusive tee shirt skin for Drake for playing today, and can wear this outfit anytime, even after the one day even is over. Now the coolest part – more than 30 of Naughty Dog’s developers will be playing today as well, even the co-president Evan Wells. Marketing manager Arne Meyer and designer Robert Cogburn have made a claim that they will be hunting newbs for a solid play of 24 hours.

Has Uncharted 2 Achieved Game of The Year Status?

When Naughty Dog unleashed Uncharted 2: Among Thieves upon the PlayStation gaming universe last October, it effectively turned the series into one of the most recognized franchises in the gaming industry. The game went on to win dozens of awards including PlayStation LifeStyle’s Game of the Year. In this day and age when a developer releases a GOTY quality title, that usually means a re-release later that next year under the GOTY label and all the DLC it can squeeze on a Blu-Ray disc. It seems Nathan Drake has discovered his own Game of the Year Edition and for those who have missed out on this masterpiece of a game, now’s your chance.

According to a recent listing on the most popular importing gaming site around, Play Asia, Uncharted 2: Among Thieves will be receiving a GOTY edition come this October. If you believe everything you read, you can go ahead and pre-order it for $60. Expect all the DLC and skins released so far and who knows, maybe even some new content thrown-in for fun.

Uncharted Dynamic Theme and DLC Headed to PSN

After successfully releasing two multiplayer skin packs for Uncharted 2, the guys over at Naughty Dog have listened to their fans and answered their plea to provide more DLC. If you’re starving to put on a new set of clothes for your multiplayer rampages, this package may help settle your cravings.

On the next PSN Update this August 17th, Uncharted 2′s DLC, Sidekick Skins Pack, will be available for purchase on the PSN. For $2.99, you’ll acquire a set of 8 new multiplayer skins to swap out your image to keep it fresh. Here is the list of new skins that you’ll be treated with:

Uncharted Meets World Cup

Naughty Dog has made a habit of changing the avatars in Uncharted 2′s multiplayer for special events. If you signed into multiplayer this past December, you would have found all the characters sporting Santa or elf hats. During Thanksgiving, players could choose either donut drake or donut lazarevic, who happened to put on a few pounds. Now, Naughty Dog has done it again, but this time in honor of the World Cup.

Up until July 12th, players can choose between different World Cup jerseys for their characters. Because of the number of jerseys they had to add, they had to take out a few of the characters. That means only drake gets to wear the jerseys on the heroes side, and only Flynn gets to wear them on the villains side. All characters purchased through DLC will still be available, so you don’t have to worry about being locked out of your own purchase. Here’s a list of the 16 teams you can choose:

Just a week or so ago, a 250GB PS3 ‘Father’s Day Bundle’ was revealed at both Amazon.com and Fry’s electronics. Uncharted 2 PSN Avatars Arriving Soon

Ever since the PlayStation Network was introduced, users have been clamoring for new avatars. The current batch of Avatars are bland, boring, and not a good representation of the gamer behind the PSN ID and avatar. Never fear, though, as Naughty Dog are here to cheer us up, as they’ve announced PlayStation Network Avatars for their game of the year, Uncharted 2: Among Thieves.

The new set of Uncharted 2 Avatars will be released today upon the US PlayStation Store update. The PlayStation Network Avatars will include most of the characters from the PlayStation 3 exclusive including Nathan Drake (of course), Elena Fisher, Victor Sullivan, Chloe Frazer, Jeff, Tenzin, Karl Schafer, Zoran Lazarevic, Harry Flynn, and an image of the Phurba dagger.

The Avatars will be available for $0.49 each. Alternatively, you can purchase two bundles of 5 Avatars for $1.49 per bundle. Other region pricing is still not announced yet, but the pricing in other regions will be similar to that of existing Avatars already available on the PSN Store.

Uncharted 2 Receiving New Playlist, Double Cash Weekend

One of the many great things about Uncharted 2 is that Naughty Dog manage to keep the title running strong and fresh with updates, patches, and even DLC releasing on a semi-regular basis. Yet again, the award-winning developers will release a new update bringing in a whole lot of content for players to look forward to.

Naughty Dog have announced that a new playlist entitled, “The Lab”, will be running from May 28th to June 1st. The playlist will be running roughly every other weekend. When “The Lab” playlist is active, Naughty Dog will be running a playlist featuring one or more custom-tuned gametype variations from the tons of variables which they can tweak in their multiplayer gameplay settings.

The current schedule and descriptions for the first three events in Uncharted 2′s “The Lab” playlist series is as follows:

May 28 – June 1
2 vs. 2 Team Deathmatch
Grab a partner for this small- to medium-size map mow-down. You’ve got 15 minutes to rack up 25 kills, or more than the other team, to prove your small-team superiority. I’m going to recommend now that you’re going to want pick a reliable teammate you want to play with over the weekend…
June 11 – 14
Shotguns Only
We’re serving up short-range mayhem as all players and maps spawn with Moss-12 and Pistole only. Oh, and NO grenades.
June 25 – 28
Sniper Extermination

Uncharted 2 Update Addresses Glitching Issues

You know what’s the best quality about a developer? When they support their game on a regular basis. This is exactly the case with multiple award-winning developers Naughty Dog. Uncharted 2 will receive yet another update which is hoping to address glitching issues in multiplayer mode.

Most of the maps which allow players to make the best out of exploits such as glitching out of a map has now been fixed. The next time you boot up the game, you’ll notice it’s not a title update but the update will be synced during the connection process in the game.

Even though 99.9 % of all glitchers lurk in the Modern Warfare series, when will they ever learn? Naughty Dog also confirmed they’re currently working at another similar update for more maps which they hope to launch in the near future.

Rare Edition of Uncharted 2 Selling for a ‘Fortune’

Gamers are widely known to be collectors, if we weren’t, publishers wouldn’t release so many limited, or collector’s editions of their games. They do it because they know us gamers eat them up. Well, what about a collector’s edition so rare, you couldn’t even buy it. That is until now… now that it’s been listed on Ebay for an astronomical price.

An extremely rare copy of Uncharted 2: Fortune Hunter Edition (which includes a game, limited edition box, art book, and the dagger seen in the game) has been spotted on Ebay, and can be yours for the low, low price of $3,200!! The game received PlayStation LifeStyle’s prestigious Game of the Year award in 2009 and has won a number of gaming industry awards, so the game is surely worth that price, right? Still not convinced? How about there was only 200 copies made and none of them were made available for sale at the time of release. The only way a person could get his “thieving” hands on one was by winning it in contests or giveaways. Still too much money? Well how about free shipping?

If you’ve got the money to spare, head on over to Ebay now and place your bid.. As for me, my broke ass is sticking with the regular addition that I paid $60 for.

Headshots & Friendly Fire: Round 10

The gaming industry has gotten bigger and better with each passing year, but sometimes it just doesn’t do things right. Whether it’s gameplay, story, pricing, or business practices, sometimes the industry needs a little friendly fire from gamers to keep it in line.

Other times, developers look down their sights and fire off a well placed bullet right into our thrilled heads. This is Josh & Cameron, and today we have a special guest for Headshots & Friendly Fire.

A Bit of Friendly Fire

French Voice Actors

Name your favorite French voice actor. I’ll wait…okay, time’s up. You probably couldn’t think of one, because it seems like most French voice actors couldn’t do an American accent if their lives depended on it. I’m sure the French are a wonderful people with many fine qualities, but an American accent is their Achilles’ heel. David Cage has stated that he is considering using American actors for his next game. Apparently, I’m not the first person to express this opinion. It’s very noble of David Cage to give voice-acting work to his fellow countrymen (especially in this economy), but I’m sure they could find jobs doing terrible voice acting for White Knight Chronicles 2.

FRAGnStein A Mess

I love a good peripheral as much as the next guy, especially when it is designed to give me the feel of using a mouse on my PS3 when I am playing a shooter. In comes the FRAGnStein, and with it comes the bundle of mess that is setting up the damned thing. Hook it up to your PS3–oh, it doesn’t sync–okay, plug it into to your PC and install the drivers. OH WAIT, the drivers don’t seem to want to work, so your PC does not recognize the device. On top of that, when new games are patched for the device, you have to go online and get the drivers for that game. Is it too much to ask that the device plug in and start working?

Wimpy Big Daddies

I’m a Big Daddy. I want to be super-overpowered–a tank that can take thousands of bullets. I don’t want a drill that takes 3 hits to kill someone, and to have to dodge behind cover after taking only a few bullets. Controlling an overpowered character in a game can work. If you can kill anything you want with just one hit of your drill, then you need to make sure that the game isn’t too easy. That’s why you restrict the movement of the character. Make the Big Daddy walk slow. Enemies may be able to move a lot faster than you, but if you ever catch them, they’re as good as dead. Imagine slowly making your way towards a splicer with a Tommy gun, being sprayed with hundreds of bullets, and then taking your drill and plunging it through his chest. Then a Big Sister shows up, and you have to run away, but you can’t out run the Big Sister because you’re wrapped in two tons of iron. Now, the all-powerful Big Daddy has become weak and helpless in the shadow of the Big Sister. I don’t care who you are, everybody would love to play that game.

Upgrading Weapons

In some games, having to upgrade your weapons feels a little dated. God of War isn’t about upgrading weapons. It’s about tearing out a centaur’s intestines and using them as a jump rope. Once I unlock the Hades Blades, I shouldn’t have to spend time to make them more powerful. They should be perfectly capable of getting me through the game as is. I would feel the same way if Uncharted 2 made me upgrade the guns. I should be completely focused on how to position myself during a firefight so that I can take out the enemies, not about whether I want my pistol to do slightly more damage. Upgrading weapons is still very fun in games like Ratchet & Clank and Resident Evil. These are the games where I would want to go back to a previous area and just grind so that my gun can hold 100 bullets or shoot buzz saws that also perform free colonoscopies. God of War 3 and Uncharted 2 are both very linear games, and the first playthrough is always the best. I don’t want the experience to be bogged down with micromanagement. Final Fantasy and Demon’s Souls can have their textbooks filled with weapon statistics, just as long as the only math I have to do in Uncharted 3 is counting the number of dudes I kill.

Crytek Boss Believes Mass Effect 2 is Doing a Better Job Than Uncharted 2

Crysis 2‘s lead writer, Richard Morgan, has expressed his feelings regarding current games on several occasions. One of which the sci-fi novelist praises, is Uncharted 2. However, revealed in a recent interview, Crytek’s head honcho doesn’t hold the award winning PS3 exclusive from Naughty Dog in such high esteem.

Speaking to VG247 during a recent interview, Crytek boss Cevat Yerli gives his thoughts on Uncharted 2 and Mass Effect 2, believing that Bioware’s Xbox 360 exclusive, Mass Effect 2 does more of a service to games as a medium than the PS3 exclusive.

It’s another style, and I don’t want to talk down that game. It’s really great, and that’s an alternative style, but I don’t think they do justice to the medium of game. I think Mass Effect 2 is doing a better job to the game market, although it’s a completely different style to us, rather than Uncharted 2 or Modern Warfare, for that matter. It’s very [makes motion indicating a row of points]: it works, but that’s not our style.Our style is still going to be fast-paced and intense, but our style is going to be about the world, much more like Avatar with Pandora. The story, the line was not interesting and we will have an interesting line, but the world was awesome. That’s what I’m much more interested in: depicting a great world.

Crysis 2 will be released this ‘holiday’ across multiple platforms.

Crysis 2 Writer has Harsh Words for Modern Warfare 2

Only six months after its release, Modern Warfare 2 has practically shattered every video game sales record. Not only was it the biggest entertainment release of all time, but just last month, the game boasted 25 million unique users, across all platforms. Certainly, that is some accomplishment. However, Crysis 2 writer and noted novelist Richard Morgan shares other sentiments, going as far to say the game was an “immense disappointment”.

Speaking in a recent interview with CVG, at a Crysis 2 event in New York City, Morgan criticized the game for the game’s lackluster storyline and direction.

“I thought Modern Warfare 2 was an immense disappointment. It was a massive stepdown from CoD4. What I thought when I played it was, ‘Jesus guys, what have you been doing? You’ve not ramped anything up. The story is worse and the game doesn’t really hang together, it’s just a bunch of mission levels.’”
“It made no sense. It was totally implausible. It doesn’t resolve. Basically, all the things that bad storytelling does. I just think they were way too impressed with themselves and that’s always a danger. It’s just unfortunate.

Morgan then went on to compare the game to Uncharted 2, whose bread and butter is story and immersion into the game.

“Conversely, with Uncharted 2, those guys went back and look at the first game. Everything that didn’t work very well, they fixed or ramped up or did something with. They really took it to a new place and you can honestly say to people if you played the first game, the second one is the same but better. Modern Warfare 2 is the same but… way worse. And it cost more money.”

Uncharted 2 ‘Siege’ Expansion Pack DLC Detailed; Trophy List

Since its release Uncharted 2 has deservedly received numerous awards and plenty of acclaim from critics and fans alike. Now close to 6 months from the blockbuster game’s release, Sony and Naughty Dog have unveiled details on an upcoming Uncharted 2 expansion pack titled Siege.

On April 22, the ‘Siege Expansion Pack’ will be released on the PlayStation Network. The DLC will be the game’s first add-on co-op game mode, which also includes 2 new maps, 6 multiplayer skins, and 11 new trophies for you to unlock. Here are the full details below:

Co-op Game Type

Siege
Pits 2 or 3 players against the AI.
Objective: capture and hold the territory against the waves of increasingly difficult AI adversaries. All players must be in the territory to capture it, so it’s a constant battle to keep the AI from assaulting the player’s position.
Players compete in one territory per round and the territory changes location every round.

2 Multiplayer Maps

The Highrise
Towering over the streets of Nepal, The Highrise is a map with plenty of opportunities for players to get the high ground on their opponents. Set on a series of destroyed and under-construction buildings, players need to be on their toes as there are many different jump locations and paths around the map. Players should also watch out for the incoming airstrikes, as they can clear the rooftops in seconds.

The Museum
Set at dusk amongst the courtyards and display cases at the site of Drake and Flynn’s heist, The Museum provides players with a mix of intense gameplay covering traversing across rooftops, dodging gunfire through twisting corridors, and close quarters fighting. Players need to watch their backs as there are numerous flank routes in all parts of this circular map. Players should also learn the secret climbing routes that will allow them to get the drop on their opponents.
