Uncharted 3: Drake’s Deception has it all: epic shootouts, blockbuster cinematics, and even a killer soundtrack. Lucky for you, you can download at least one of those right now on the PlayStation Network.

Naughty Dog and Sony are now offering the Uncharted 3 soundtrack on PSN for $9.99. They also announced that you’ll be able to purchase a physical copy of it when it hits store shelves on November 15th at Best Buy, Barnes and Noble, Fry’s Electronics, iTunes, and Amazon.com.

Additionally, you can grab the Uncharted: Drake’s Fortune and Uncharted 2: Among Thieves soundtracks off PSN for $5.99 now, or wait until next week for the $9.99 combo pack featuring both.

Uncharted Series Becomes a Shining Star with Over 8 Million Sales

The Uncharted series might only have been born four years ago, but time isn’t everything. Its extremely positive reception has propelled it to stardom commercially, and has made it one of the best-selling games on the PlayStation 3 with some impressive numbers that have finally been tallied.

According to a press release by SCEJ, Naughty Dog’s Uncharted series has totaled eight million sales across two releases. Uncharted 2: Among Thieves makes up the majority of sales with its 4.9 million, which will hit five million shortly with the recent release of the Uncharted: Dual Pack.

Uncharted 2 is one of the highest-rated games of this generation, so these numbers don’t come as much of a surprise. The question is, can Uncharted 3: Drake’s Deception top its predecessors? With a larger install base on the PS3, and a growing reputation, its only roadblock is standing out during this year’s heavy line-up of hot titles. Naughty Dog has stated that Uncharted 3 encompasses their many years of cumulative experience and goes even bigger than the previous title. We’ll have to wait and see how well that translates into the experience once it arrives next month.

David O. Russell Leaves Uncharted Movie

Renowned director David O. Russell – who has directed Mark Wahlberg in The Fighter – has made a sensational and unexpected exit from the movie adaptation of Uncharted: Drake’s Fortune.

Variety broke the news – insiders tell the website that split was down to the fact that it was “amicable and due to creative differences on the project.”

Oscar-nominated David O. Russell had signed with the movie’s studio, Columbia Pictures, back in February, 2011. He was put in charge of directing the first movie adaptation of the Uncharted series.

Thomas Dean Donnelly and Joshua Oppenheimer wrote the first draft of the script, but Sony has begun looking for new writers, despite liking the plot.

It’s definitely a surprising exit from Russell, considering the fact that he was reportedly extremely happy to join the team and direct the movie, however, considering the rumors of a Mark Wahlberg starring movie about a family of treasure hunters, maybe it is for the best.

The movie is rumored to release sometime in 2013.

Mark Wahlberg Confirmed to Star in Uncharted Movie

Naughty Dog’s Uncharted series has been praised for its cinematic quality, causing countless people to believe it could work well as a film. Sony’s Columbia Pictures agreed with gamers, and last year the film studio announced that they would be adapting Drake’s Fortune for the big screen. One of the biggest questions from Uncharted fans was who would play the loveable Nathan Drake, with some campaigning for Nathan Fillion, and other’s for the character’s voice actor, Nolan North. However, it looks like it was for naught, as the studio have set their eyes on a completely different actor.

Action star Mark Wahlberg seems to have taken up the mantle for the position, as well being joined by dynamic duo Joe Pesci and Robert DeNiro. How would these men fit in to the game? In a surprisingly candid interview with MTV News, Marky Mark seems to spill the beans:

Father? Uncle? While Victor Sullivan aptly filled the “mentor” role, he doesn’t seem to have any sort of blood ties to Nathan. I just hope that David O. Russell gets this one right. My expectations for the movie have just fallen quite a bit… Let’s just hope that it won’t be canon, just like the book.

Uncharted 3 Hinted at in Middle East Localization Deal

A new localization deal between Rubicon Group Holding and the Modern Electronics Company (MEC), a leading distributor of Sony products in the Middle East, is looking to break down the content barriers that have resulted in the banning of numerous big-name titles in the region by modifying existing game content for the Saudi Arabian market. Speaking with the press, a Rubicon executive happened to mention quite an interesting title… Uncharted 3.

In passing, Ghassan Ayoubi, executive director of Rubicon Holding, mentioned that FIFA 11 and the third installment in the Uncharted franchise could be among the first games to be “Arabised and localized” for the Middle Eastern market. Now, one could look at this in one of two ways; either Mr. Ayoubi was talking about the newly released Uncharted 2: Game of The Year Edition, or he wasn’t. Which leaves the obvious assumption that he was talking about Uncharted 3, yes, you heard us right. It’s already safe to assume that a third Uncharted title is well on it’s way based off of the phenomenal success of the series leading up to this point. But could this perhaps foretell that Uncharted 3 has already been plotted out, with developers now in place to implement “Arab features” and characters? We’d like to think so.

This Uncharted Deal is Quite the Treasure

The Greatest Hits price of the game, subtracted from the total price comes to… A new controller for just $18? Considering that new DualShocks run about $55 brand new (even those fancy pink ones), this seems totally worth it. With the unbelievable success of its sequel, there are a lot of people still interested in Nathan Drake’s first adventure. Nathan Drake and Ratchet Crack Their Price In Europe

What if I told you that you could pickup one of the top three, if not the BEST game to grace the PlayStation 3 yet, Uncharted 2: Among Thieves, for $30 brand new? What if I told you could do the same for the newest Ratchet and Clank Future Game, A Crank in Time? I have some very wonderful news for our European fans and not so wonderful news for our US fans.

So why is this news not so wonderful for our US fans? Simply because SCEE has announced that Uncharted 2: Among Thieves and Ratchet and Clank Future: A Crack in Time will both join the ‘Platinum Hit’ line of reduced price gaming. Talk about lucky! SCEA on the other hand, has said nothin’ about it. Heck It took SCEA 2 years before they even dropped the price for either Tools of Destruction or the original Uncharted, yet 7 months later and the sequels for both titles will officially drop in-price on June 11th. You win this time, Europe..

Seriously though, U2:AT and R&C: ACIT are two of the best PS3 exclusives released yet. For that price, all of our European fans who have yet to purchase either game need to do ASAP on June 11th. Naughty Dog: No Jak & Daxter PS3 Would be a “Shame”

When Naughty Dog introduced themselves to PlayStation, they brought us Crash Bandicoot. The company moved on from that property after the PS1 era, debuting their next IP, Jak & Daxter. Then, after the PS2, Naughty Dog tried their hand with the PS3. And with that, they introduced one of the best series of the last decade: Uncharted. But, will the company ever return to Jak & Daxter, the duo that ultimately put them in the spotlight?

Recently, Joystiq caught up with Evan Wells, co-president of Naughty Dog. The topic of discussion was mostly Uncharted 2: Among Thieves, however talks turned to Jak & Daxter.

Yeah, it’s hard to say. It’s hard to admit that would be in our past, because we definitely still have a real soft spot in the heart for the franchise. And I, in my fantasy, would love to be able to have the resources to be able to tackle that project. But, right now, Uncharted is sort of the focus of the studio for DLC. Maybe we could go to Jak and Daxter as the next project. Maybe we stick with Uncharted [laughs]. Maybe we come up with a new IP. It’s tricky to be able to tackle all of those at once. Right?
We don’t have the resources. So, we’re gonna have to choose our battles. I’m not sure whether Jak and Daxter will win that battle. Like you were saying, though, with trying to find a partner to work with us on the PSP version of Uncharted, I think it would be a shame if there weren’t a Jak and Daxter for the PS3 generation. So, if we can’t find a partner for one of those, then maybe we’re going to have to find a budget ourselves. [laughs]

Uncharted 2 and The Tale of Success

When Naughty Dog first released footage of Uncharted 2: Among Thieves back at the Spike TV Video Game Awards in late 2008, we knew it was going to be something special. How special, you ask? Sony has released some official numbers, and you’d better be ready to pick your jaw up off the ground.

Thanks to Scott Rohde, VP of Product Development at SCEA, we know that Uncharted 2 has sold over 3.5 Million Copies worldwide, which happens to make it the fastest selling first-party game ever on the PS3. It has an online user base of over 1.5 million players–and get this–has won over 150 Industry awards, including the Annual Interactive Achievement Award for Game of the Year.

I think it’s safe to say that Naughty Dog is now one of the most highly regarded and respected developers out there today. Uncharted 1 and 2 are some of the best games on the PlayStation 3. Look at the upgrade from the first game to the second–it’s safe to say that Naughty Dog is going to top what they did with Among Thieves and blow us and the industry away once again when they finally show Uncharted 3 to the world.

Uncharted 2 deserves every award and copy that it sells. If you haven’t picked up the game yet, what are you waiting for? You need proof? Uncharted 2 Finds Drake’s Fortune DLC, Multiplayer Trophies

Uncharted 2: Among Thieves has received a massive amount of support from Naughty Dog, since it launched back in October 2009. The title recently had new skins revealed for multiplayer mode, which had the star players from other Sony franchises. Now, Naughty Dog has decided to dwell into the past, with it’s upcoming Drake’s Fortune Multiplayer Pack.

Along with the Drake’s Fortune Multiplayer Pack, is the inclusion of new mutliplayer trophies. Justin Richmond, Naughty Dog multiplayer designer revealed that they did not want to add many multiplayer trophies to begin with. “One of the things that we wanted to make sure at launch was that anybody could get the platinum,” he said. The trophies will hit February 25th, alongside the new pack. Here they are:

Sneaky… – Get 50 Stealth Kills
Brass Knuckles – Get 100 Melee Kills
Tastes Like Chicken – Get 20 BBQ Medals
Rapid Fire – Get 7 Tripled Medals in Deathmatch
I Told You I Was Hardcore! – Complete All 3 Co-op Objective Maps on Hard Difficulty
Made It – Finish Wave 10 in one Survival Game
Gold Digger – Finish Wave 10 in one Gold Rush Game
Wipe Them Out… – Win 50 Deathmatch Games
Plays Well With Others – Win 50 Objective Games
Still Alive – Win 50 Elimination Games

The new DLC pack will be focused all on the original Nathan Drake adventure, Uncharted: Drake’s Fortune. Included in this pack are six new skins, which includes Nathan Drake, Elena, Navarro, Eddie Raja, Gabriel Roman and Javier. Also added are two maps, The Flooded Ruins and The Facility. Both maps are levels from the original game.

You can buy the DLC pack when they hit February 25th for the low price of $5.99, which includes both the skins and maps. However, if you don’t want the skins, but want the maps (or vice-versa), you can purchase them separately for $2.99 and $3.99, respectively.
