Uncharted 3 Charts Out Heavy YouTube/Facebook Integration

One of the most effective PR methods used by companies is the power of social media. With Naughty Dog’s previous installment of Uncharted 2, the devs dappled with social media integration through Twitter for exposure and had moderate success. With Uncharted 3, the Cali-based developers are looking up the ante with the social experience.

For Naughty Dog’s Uncharted 3, the team have announced full integration with Facebook and the video sharing site, YouTube. Through Facebook, friends will be able to post bragging rights on trophies and feats directly to their profile. Even multiplayer will host a feed on Facebook, allowing updates to be shared and messages to be sent between their Facebook pals, even if they aren’t signed into the PlayStation Network.

Players will also get to record and upload their personalized game footage to YouTube, which will be recorded through an all new Cinema Mode, allowing them to edit clips to highlight key moments. Naughty Dog will also be launching a new service called “Uncharted TV,” which lucky players could possibly see their videos make the “play of the week.” All of these cool features will get to be tested and tried out by anyone hopping into the open beta this July 5th, or June 28th for you lucky PS Plus members.

Native YouTube App Coming to Consoles?

While YouTube has been accessible through the PlayStation 3′s own web browser, even through a specifically designed website, the experience is… less than pleasant. That may be getting remedied soon.

YouTube XL is a version of the popular video portal that was specifically designed for the television, mostly accessible through the PS3′s web browser or even the Nintendo Wii’s Internet Channel. The website itself may work well, but it’s the actual channels that seem to hold back the experience. But the folks over at YouTube (actually Google) headquarters may be fixing that, if a recent job posting should be believed. The job responsibilities consist of:

Build the next generation game-console-based TV experience with You Tube video content.
Deliver a compelling lean back experience with monetization and e-commerce offerings (ie, pay-per-stream, ads).
Integrate and optimize with distribution channels and devices including all major game platforms.
Develop leading edge User Interfaces and delight users with innovative media rich solutions.

If that isn’t enough, take a look at some of the required skills before taking up this particular job offer.

At least 3 years of professional video game programming experience
Experience with engine development on at least one major platform
Deep technical knowledge of Microsoft Xbox 360, Sony PlayStation 3 and/or Nintendo Wii
Credited on at least 1 published video game in a programmer role

With rumors of Google TV on the PlayStation 3, the internet giant seems to be ready to support everyone’s favorite console with unique content that will expand upon the PS3′s, already vast, multimedia capabilities.

3D YouTube Coming to the PS3

3D gaming is all the rage lately, particularly on the PlayStation 3. The PS3 has already received its first bunch of 3D games to coincide with Sony’s launching of their new 3D Bravia TVs, along with other 3D capable consumer electronics. On top of 3D gaming, it was recently revealed that not only a firmware update to enable 3D Blu-Ray playback was coming, but a second firmware update was coming to enable the PS3 to view 3D “sweep” digital camera still images. Sony isn’t planning on stopping there in terms of their supporting 3D, and neither are Sony’s partners it seems…

The PS3, thanks to it’s support of Adobe Flash, can play YouTube videos from it’s built-in web browser. YouTube doesn’t want to be left behind on the 3D train, so they’re planning to soon feature 3D videos. Sony’s Mick Hocking, who is in charge of SCE Worldwide Studios’ 3D content, has just confirmed that YouTube’s 3D videos will work on the PS3.

“Crucially for us, PlayStation 3 will be able to store all types of 3D content. And we can do this through properly upgrading the Firmware on the platform.”
“So you’ll see 3D games in the next 12 months, you’ll see Blu-ray movies in 3D, and as soon as the broadcasts start through our PlayTV services, you’re going to watch 3D content [via that].
“YouTube will be supporting 3D content over the next 12 months as well – and you’ll be able to watch that on the PlayStation 3. And as you start taking 3D pictures of your family or 3D camcorder movies, you can play those back on PS3, too.”

Kratos Continues to Impress in New Gameplay Footage

Now that God of War III is less than two-weeks away, the hype behind this epic trilogy-ending title is headed toward climax. With the recent unveiling of Cronos as well as the lack of an install and seemless loading, the hype looks well-warranted.

A gameplay video featuring footage from tons of areas in God of War III has been released on YouTube. The video is nearly nine-minutes long and show-off some of the amazing moments in the title including video-footage of a fight between Kratos and the God of the Sea himself. It is also worth mentioning that a 720p version of the video is available which really shows off how much of an improvement Santa Monica Studios have made to the product since E3 2009. This game really looks to push current-generation hardware to the next level, and it’s easy to see that many will argue that it’s the best-looking game on any console.

GT and YouTube Crash Head-On

Fans of Polyphony Digital’s incredibly realistic driving simulator, Gran Turismo, have enjoyed the ability to save replays of memorable race sessions for many years now, but lacked the ability to show off those replays to anyone other than friends with PlayStation consoles and a copy of the game. But all that is about to change with the greatest entry yet in the series, Gran Turismo 5.

Kazunori Yamauchi and his team showed off some new footage for GT5 at the Asia Game Show 2009 today, and one of the slides confirmed a rumor that, until now, had very little traction. GT5 owners will be able to record and upload their high-octane races straight to Youtube. The game is slated to release next March in Japan, and Summer 2010 for North America and Europe.

Peggle and Peggle Nights Coming This Thursday With Bonus Features

Peggle rushed into the PC world of gaming back in 2007 courtesy of casual gaming king PopCap Games. It is finally making its way over to the PlayStation 3, but not before receiving some much-lauded features.

For starters, this game will come with a new multiplayer mode called “Peg Party.” This allows for up to four-player online matches. Though not revealed in the PS.Blog post sourced here, through the author’s comments it has been revealed that this game supports many PlayStation 3-exclusive features. Games can be automatically uploaded to YouTube for viewing by anyone, custom soundtracks are supported, and Remote Play is also allowed. The main Peggle game is priced at $9.99 and its add-on, Peggle Nights, also releasing this Thursday, will be $4.99. A demo will also be available.

Assassin’s Creed: Lineage Short Films to Debut on YouTube

UBISOFT® ANNOUNCES NEW DETAILS OF ASSASSIN’S CREED: LINEAGE SHORT MOVIES

Ubisoft® today announced the first of the three episodes from the new Assassin’s Creed: Lineage short movies will debut on YouTube. Beginning on October 27, 2009, YouTube will have the first episode of the short movies on its homepage in eight countries throughout the world for a period of 24 hours.

Developed by Ubisoft’s Hybride Technologies, the visual effects studio behind 300 and Sin City, Assassin’s Creed: Lineage combines live action and computer generated imagery (CGI) to explore the events that happen just before the Assassin’s Creed II game starts. The short films revolve around Ezio’s father, Giovanni Auditore da Firenze, and give insight on the game’s back story and universe.

The short films will whet the appetite of game players and fans of this type of cinematography in advance of the in-store release of the video game on November 20, 2009. Assassin’s Creed: Lineage will also introduce some of the characters that players will meet in the game: both foes and friends of the family, like Lorenzo de Medici, the Italian statesman and de facto ruler of the Florentine Republic during the Italian Renaissance period.

Burn Zombie Burn! Receives Feature-Packed Patch

Last month, we revealed that doublesix Games, the developers behind the PSN title Burn Zombie Burn!, were set to release a new patch adding hot new features to the beat-’em-up. More specifically, the new patch was said to add YouTube\ recording and uploading, as well as the ability to use custom soundtracks.

This new patch, releasing today, not only adds these new features and fixes leaderboard bugs, but also includes a brand-new teaser trailer for the next addition to Burn Zombie Burn!, the first expansion pack titled Burn Zombie Burn!: In Space.

Hulu Explains Decision to Block PS3 Owners

If you recall, some time ago it was made clear that the popular internet website, Hulu, was no longer working on PS3 web browsers. PS3 owners were infuriated, but Hulu refused to give a proper answer at the time. But finally, we have an official response from the company on how this decision came about.

G4TV received a response from a customer service representative, explaining that the reason Hulu is now blocking from the PS3 is because legal issues between Hulu and owners of the video content provided on their website.

“Everything we do is with an eye toward achieving our long-term goal of maximizing the content you can access as conveniently as possible in a way that ‘works’ for the content owner. In the short-term that may require us to make some tough decisions, but we only do so when we believe it improves our long-term prospects to build a more enduring, legal solution to that same problem.”

Despite their response, Hulu still hasn’t come clean on exactly why the PS3 is being blocked, as its viewers net Hulu the same amount of revenue as PC owners. But it’s still better than nothing. Stay tuned on PSLSfor more information as the situation develops.

Uncharted 2 Gameplay Footage Sets the Bar Even Higher

New footage for Uncharted 2: Among Thieves has been released, and it is incredible.

Coming in at over 70 seconds, this new footage features the same level we’ve been exposed to for awhile now. The scene involves Nathan Drake sneaking up on a group of enemies. While watching the video, it is not hard to notice the jaw-dropping graphics and realistic behavior. Just check out how Drake reacts to tiny cues from the environment.

YouTube Uploading Coming To LittleBigPlanet?

Sony has officially launched the LittleBigPlanet YouTube page for both the US and the UK. The YouTube page will be regularly updated with a favorites section, featured users, tutorials from Media Molecule, cultural collaborations, challenges, event promotions and game footage.

The UK page has a contest going on right now called “Around The World In 80 Sackboys”. In order to enter, simply create a level based on any geographic location. Users will vote and the winner, chosen by Media Molecule, will win a pair of tickets for a trip around the globe, 14 nights in various hotels, and £1000 for spending.

Hopefully all of this points to YouTube uploading coming your way via a certain cheese-flavored patch. YouTube uploading has been a huge success, even with only a few titles actually supporting it. The very first title to support this feature was none other than PixelJunk Eden. So what do you guys think?

H.A.W.X. On The PS3 Will Support YouTube Recording

Tom Clancy’s H.A.W.X., which is due to launch in North America on the 6th, has a feature exclusive to the PlayStation 3: YouTube support! This feature has been used occasionally in various PSN games since its inception in firmware update 2.35, and it looks like H.A.W.X. will be the first retail game to utilize it from launch. So now those insane maneuvers you plan to pull (or fail in a horrible, fiery crash) can be recorded and uploaded to YouTube for all to see!

According to EP Daily on G4 Tech TV (Canada) Video Capture and Direct YouTube Uploading is coming to LittleBigPlanet soon. Media Molecule’s Kareem Ettouney had this to say in regard to this rumor:

A lot of people in the LittleBigPlanet World are really keen on showing off how they made their creations. It’s an obvious need. You go on YouTube and see all those videos. Let’s give the users a tool that can stream the content and put it on YouTube.
