Cloud computing is still very much an emerging technology, and the direction that many companies are favoring for future products. Recently, Sony trademarked “PS Cloud.” The full details of what Sony plans on doing with this technology have not been announced. What we do know is that cloud computing allows for distributed processing of data. It is also the software behind the newly announced gaming service OnLive. Hopefully this will bring yet another groundbreaking experience to the PlayStation brand.
For those of you fearing that this means the end of physical media, remember that Sony does not see a digital-only distribution system becoming standard for at least another five years. It will be interesting to see whether this technology will strengthen Home and PSN as a whole.
