Valcon Games has decided to cancel Ikki Tousen: Shining Dragon for the PlayStation 2, rather than let the game ship with an M for Mature rating. The ESRB justified their rating for the game based off an anime series with this statement:
“All the female characters are dressed in short skirts or skirts with a high slit. The game features frequent depictions of panties, cleavage, and exaggerated breast jiggle. A special attack move allows some characters to rip opponents’ clothes to shreds – exposing even more of the female anatomy (legs, breasts, partial buttocks).”
The series, based off of the popular anime Ikki Tousen in Japan, is popular for the girls ripping each others clothes during fights. Valcon Games wished to preserve this in the making of the game. It is too bad that it ultimately ended up in the game being canned for US Release. For some reason, Valcon Games thought that an M rating would limit the distribution of the game. I would think that for a Japanese anime, that it already has limited distribution. But, oh well. That’s one less PS2 game for this year, which shouldn’t hurt too many people’s feelings.
