PSP Trophies Still a Ways Off; Definitely in the Works

A photo snapped of SOCOM: Fireteam Bravo 3 being played on the PSP shows an image of a trophy being unlocked.  However when an attendee at the E3 ’09 PS.Blog meet-up got 20 headshots in Fireteam Bravo 3, what appeared to be an image of a trophy being unlocked popped up.  When a Slant Six developer was asked about the “trophy”, the attendee was then told it was only an in-game award.  They also mentioned that the PSP currently does NOT support trophies, but the infrastructure was there if trophy support were ever to be implemented on the PSP (think Uncharted medals).

Looking at the image below you can easily see that the trophy/in-game award doesn’t match up with the current PSN trophy unlocked notification that is seen on the PlayStation 3.

However, we have been hearing from our sources for a couple of months now, that PSP trophies are indeed in the works and that SOCOM: Fireteam Bravo 3 would be the first game to support PSP trophies.  This was before SOCOM: Fireteam Bravo 3 was even announced.

When checking in with our source, we were told that PSP trophies may not be ready to roll out by E3.  Because of this we decided to forego writing an article about the information and instead added it to our E3 2009 Predictions.

With Slant Six making sure they are being referred to as in-game awards, makes us believe even more so that PSP trophies are still a ways off.  But don’t fret, they are definitely in the works and should be making their way to the PSP before the years end.

When the PSP does begin to support trophies, it’s expected to factor in to a your PSN account, with PSP trophies adding to your PSN level.
