Full PS2 Backwards Compatibility Supposedly Weeks Away

Recently, some patents were released for the emulation of the PlayStation 2’s CPU (central processing unit), titled the Emotion Engine. Many thought this implied that Sony would be giving back the backwards compatibility that the PS3 had lost. Now, it seems that this may be true.

The patent of the Emotion Engine was filed in December of 2008, with a publication date of last week. A German website, called Demon News, claims that they have gained word that full backwards compatibility is coming through a firmware update in the “next few weeks”. This supposedly comes from a Sony employee.

Now, don’t get too excited, as this is classified as a rumor. Would you like to see PS2 compatibility back in the PlayStation 3? Post your comments below!
