Sony’s Peter Edward has revealed that 7 million PSN users have signed up for PlayStation Home. Edward was speaking at the Develop conference in Brighton, and also revealed that 3 million people had signed up for Home in Europe alone.

However, he also spoke on how Home is only getting repeat users at around 25-30%. Edward says the stats are not “definitive”, and are also constantly changing. He then explained that since PlayStation Home launched seven months ago, European users have downloaded over six million pieces of merchandise. Of course, some of these were free, but Edward assures us that “This is a commercial business, it is up and running, and it is making money.”

Last time Sony revealed merchandise profit for PlayStation Home, they had made one million dollars on the products available. While that sort of information was not made available today, Sony has said that it will look into making that information available in the future.

Edward went onto reveal that 80% of the Home crowd are 18 to 35 year-old males, and that European users spend an average of 56 minutes on Home. This may seem like a lot, but Edward explains that, “Home is slowly broadening the appeal of the console market out to a widening demographic.”

Peter Edward then finishes up by emphasizing that PlayStation Home hasn’t been all fun and games for them:

“Obviously there have been a lot of trials and tribulations along the way. Now, we’re starting to see a huge amount of content coming into the platform… Content is arriving which we didn’t even know was being developed.”
