Insomniac Games, the developers behind the Ratchet & Clank and Resistance series, are set to pump out their fifth PlayStation 3 title in the console’s three year age. With the independently-owned studio opening up a second developmental house on the east coast of the United States, it’s ludicrous to think the PlayStation-exclusive developers are not expanding their horizon of franchises.
Fortunately, Insomniac Games feels the same way. Speaking with Gamerzines.com, community manager James Stevenson labeled such assumptions as “silly”.
“We don’t really want to talk about anything outside of A Crack In Time, but what I will say in general is that, if you think that Resistance is going to be the last new IP from Insomniac obviously that would be a silly thought. At some point in the future there will be new IPs, but when, where, why, how, you know, who knows?”
When a developer stays grounded in one or two, albeit strong franchises, they begin to lose their worldwide status as a world-class developer and attribute their identity to said series. Looking at other studios such as EA, Ubisoft, and even Naughty Dog, it is clear that creativity and originality pays off in the end.
