The game’s revamped controls make matches flow seamlessly—not only can the gamer attack from any position anywhere in the arena, but almost any move that is attempted can be reversed. The game also looks phenomenal. The realism of the moves and the animations of characters are top notch.

The amount of modes within the game is also very impressive. There are a total of 58 match types to choose from within the Play Mode. This includes the improved Royal Rumble. It has been overhauled so that it seems more realistic when getting the opposition over the top rope.

Another great mode that has been included is the Championship Scramble, in which the player is in the ring with 4 other players with a set time limit. The match begins with only 2 players in the ring, and as the time counts down, more players enter the ring. The person with the most recent pin at the end of the match will be crowned Champion. This mode is a good addition to the game, and can lead to some exciting matches, both online and offline.

The Road to Wrestlemania story mode makes a return in this year’s version as well. In total, there are 6 stories to play through, including Created Superstar, Edge, Shawn Michaels, Triple H, and John Cena, Randy Orton, and Mickie James. Unlocking everything will require multiple playthroughs so that the user can take every path possible in the storyline. Career Mode is another mode for users to hone their skills as they rise through the ranks and progress through a star’s career.

The game’s upgrades this year easily warrant a purchase. The addition of story creation allows for limitless possibilities, and the fact that you can download stories from the community shows the route that THQ is going with this series. To allow that level of customization in a title is definitely a good idea—it gives users more bang for their buck. If you are a fan of the series, or haven’t picked up a wrestling title in quite some time, then you should definitely consider Smackdown vs. Raw 2010—you will not be disappointed.
