PSN Store Continues to Impress

Remember back to the early days of the PlayStation Store and while there were some very good titles to be found, there was not a lot of depth and variety.  Well now today you can log onto the PlayStation Store and find plenty of games to suit any preference or mood that you are in.  There is just so much gaming to be had on the Playstation Store, something that has continued to grow as the PS3 has gotten older.  There are tools out there now to really help developers make the most out of their games and they are using it as we have seen some utter masterpieces like Flower, the PixelJunk Games and Shatter to name a few.  Full retail games for download has been a bit slow to catch on but I could see that eventually getting bigger and if your in the need for an old school fix, the PSOne library is growing weekly and boasts some impressive games.

Hover Boots in Ratchet & Clank

Ratchet Hover Boots

I thought the hover boots would be just another gadget like the magnet boots or the tesla coil, but they completely changed the platforming. The hover boots segments were some of the funnest parts of that game. You get a real sense of speed, but you always have time to react to any obstacles in your way. The highlight of these segments is obviously the battle with Dr. Nefarious, where you have to platform from one broken piece of metal to another. It’s kinda like what a Sonic game would be if it were actually good. I would be thrilled if Insomniac released some DLC containing a bunch of moons with platforming sequences. Throw in some clank puzzles and I’d pay anything for that.

Multi-player Done Right

Modern Warfare 2, how you do multi-player justice with some amazing fun.  Infinity Ward may not give you the most compelling single player and I am sorry it was not, but they know what they are doing when it comes to online play.  Spec Ops are a big added part to the online and its a blast to play with a friend, though I do wish instead of only 2 player that you could do some 4 player spec op missions, now that would truly be epic.  Then outside of spec ops you have the regular online and there is just so much too it.  Tons of gameplay modes, tons of unlockables, perks, stat tracking, its all done right.  There is always something to work on or something to achieve in MW2’s online and that is exactly how it should be.

2D PixelJunk Games

I hope Q-Games never does a 3D game. They do 2D gaming so well, and have been able to keep 2D gaming relevant. Because of Q-Games (and a few other developers) 2D games are no longer inferior to their big, 3D blockbuster brothers. PixelJunk games aren’t just my favorite PSN games, they are my favorite games, period. I haven’t played much of PixelJunk Shooter, but it will definitely be on my best of 2009 list.
