There has been a lot of talk about if or how Sony is going to implement a premium PSN service. One of their most recent patents does not help matters, titled “Cloudsurf.”
Filed just on December 28th, the patent describes basically anything electronic, including audio players, set top boxes, video game machines and more. Patents tend to be very broad so that the products they describe can be used for all sorts of applications. The final couple of lines of descriptions are the most interesting:
“Game services provided on-line from a computer network; entertainment services, namely, providing on-line computer games, music, video and related information; rental of audio equipment; online distribution of music, image or video; providing on-line electronic publications, not downloadable; online distribution of radio and television programs”
While game services provided for by a network is nothing new, online publications (other than the newly-released comic book store) and non-downloadable products are very new. Could this be a streaming service? It really is unkown what Cloudsurf is, but rest assured as soon as any information is released you can read about it here.
