Gran Turismo 5 Will Be a Profitable Powerhouse

Polyphony Digital’s Gran Turismo is unarguably one of the most popular gaming series of all time. With sales in the tens of millions on several titles, the series has not only been profitable but has also been heavily influential. The upcoming Gran Turismo 5 looks to continue that trend for the series.

Polyphony Digital has already made back most of if not all of the development costs for Gran Turismo 5. With sales exceeding 3.5 million units, Gran Turismo 5: Prologue, a preview to the full version of Gran Turismo 5, has already racked up over $100 million dollars in revenue. Since Gran Turismo 5 has had a rough $60 million dollar development cost, there’s a great possibility that the title has already been paid for by its little brother.

In addition, there is no denying that the series’ massive ongoing popularity will generate millions of sales for Gran Turismo 5. While Gran Turismo 5: Prologue sold exceptionally well, it’s hard to imagine it outselling the full title. When both elements are taken into consideration, it’s possible to see Gran Turismo 5 as one of the most profitable games to ever release on a PlayStation platform.

With a release date of 2010, hopefully the coming months will tell.
