When the PlayStation 3 Slim was announced in August of last year, the expectations for success were high. With years of struggling to bring the price down, Sony was put in a difficult position that many though the company couldn’t overcome. However, now that the dust has settled, the true impact of the PlayStation 3 Slim‘s global release is now being witnessed.
Arvind Bhatia from Sterne Agee, a successful investment firm, has stated that he expects the year-over-year sales growth in January to be a record high for the PlayStation 3. On the other hand, software for both competitor platforms have seen significant decreases in the past weeks while hardware continues to not see growth. With Sony’s PlayStation 3 selling over 4.3 million units in the U.S. alone in 2009, it’s no wonder why the competition have had to push marketing and drop prices to counter the vengeful PlayStation 3 console.
With huge blockbuster titles in the coming weeks and months, the PlayStation 3 is in a strong position to push itself to the top of 2010.
