THQ Bringing Next Red Faction Title Back to Basics

In a recent interview with Joystiq at this year’s GDC, THQ’s executive VP of Core Games Danny Bilson gave a few previously unknown snippets of information regarding the next Red Faction game. The next game, according to Bilson, is a sort of “hybrid” between the first two Red Faction titles and Guerrilla, and is planned for a March 2011 release.

Bilson continued the interview, saying that the next game, still not officially titled, will be far more “structured” than the previous titles, and will feature destructible environments like it’s predecessor. One of Red Faction Guerrilla’s selling points was it’s destructible environments, which cost THQ “a fortune”.

“The new game takes [Red Faction] to a whole new place, it kind of goes back to the old Red Faction because about 80% of it is underground.”

Although Red Faction Guerrilla met with critical acclaim, it did not exactly achieve the sales THQ were expecting. However, according to Bilson, although sales were not great, he felt the quality in Guerrilla was too high to simply abandon.
