Miyamoto Believes Violence Hurts Video Game Potential

When you think of violence in video games, one company certainly does not come to mind – Nintendo. The company’s most iconic employee, Shigeru Miyamoto, expressed his opinion recently on violent games, and judging by his opinion, he won’t be making a title filled with violence anytime soon.

In an exclusive interview with CVG, Shigeru Miyamoto spoke on the topic of violence in video games. He believes that this sort of game content can hurt a video games potential.

“Sometimes, games designers tend to focus their attention on a limited particular area of their expression. That is simply narrowing down the potential of what video games can do. I really hope each individual creator has a wider view so they can appreciate and try to expand the potential of video games.”

Shigeru Miyamoto is mostly known for his creation of the Mario series. He has created some of the most successful video game franchises of all time, including Legend of Zelda, Donkey Kong, and Star Fox.
