If you thought that Marvel vs. Capcom 3 was born from the incredibly strong sales of its re-released predecessor, Marvel vs. Capcom 2, well, you were wrong. The title has actually been in development for some time now.
Speaking in an interview with GameTrailers, Capcom’s Ryota Niitsuma has revealed that Marvel vs. Capcom 3 has been in the works for quite some time.
“We really started working in development in summer 2008. But all the contract and legal negotiations — that came way before that, as well. So … we started to produce this game before the success of Marvel vs. Capcom 2 as a downloadable title,”
You may be confused, and we possibly know why. Last year, Capcom’s Seth Killian told Joystiq that ‘3’ may only get release if the PSN and XBLA debut of Marvel vs. Capcom 2 gets a lot of heat behind it. It looks like the company can (kind of) keep a well-hid secret.
Marvel vs. Capcom 3 releases next spring for PS3 (and Xbox 360), and will have over 30 Marvel and Capcom characters to choose from.
