EA: Project Ten Dollar “Not a Defensive Measure”

Project Ten Dollar has been somewhat of a highlighted aspect of EA’s latest titles, it’s a policy within EA’s game titles where content for a new game is tied to the original owners online account, then if the original owner of the the game trades in or sold the game, the new owner will be forced to spend ten dollars to access the online portion of the game.

Speaking to MCV, Electronic Arts’ UK general manager Keith Ramsdale has stated that ‘Project Ten Dollar’ is about enhancing the value of EA games, and not an attempt gain money on second-hand sales.

“It’s all about the customer, about improving their experience,”

“It’s not a defensive measure against pre-owned or piracy.”

Looks like paying to unlock content is becoming a fashionable thing with THQ doing it with UFC Undisputed 2010. So look for more developers to be picking up this idea.
