Trinity: Souls of Zill O’ll E3 Impressions

During last year’s E3, KOEI announced that they were working on a PlayStation 3 exclusive entitled, “Trinity: Souls of Zill O’ll”. Since then, not much has been revealed regarding the action role-playing game, however, PlayStation LifeStyle recently played the intriguing game. Out of all the games at Koei Tecmo’s booth, Trinity: Souls of Zill O’ll was clearly the best game they had to play.

While the game is reminiscent of Dynasty Warriors (as were most of KT titles), it added some flare to the gameplay as you can instantly change between the three main characters, the main male character being the most balanced, who can also use magic, the huge dude who is strong but slow, and the female who can double jump, lightning fast, but weaker than the male characters.

As you defeat enemies, your trinity gauge attacks build which allows you to unleash a major attack that devastates any and all enemies in the surrounding area. Even though the gameplay consists of button mashing, the three characters have add some variety to it.

Something else that caught my eye was the look of the game. The graphics aren’t going to make anyone to make a double-take, but they do have a ‘waterpaint’ filter applied to them that gives the game its own unique flare, unlike some of Koei Tecmo’s E3 titles.

Even with the large groups of enemies trying their best to kill you and your other two fellow adventurers helping you, there was never any signs of slowdown or frame rate problems, which is always nice to see. Trinity: Souls of Zill O’ll will please fans of the series when it releases sometime in 2011.
