Unfortunately, Midway never really kicked off with its Mortal Kombat video game franchise. However, now that the new Mortal Kombat is underway for current-gen consoles from the re-branded Midway Games’ team, NetherRealm Studios, it’s looking to feature some key gameplay elements; one of which is its online component.
Mortal Kombat’s lead designer, John Edwards, told Gaming Union that Mortal Kombat would feature the most robust online fighting game system ever imagined and the developers have a lot of exciting things planned for the 2D fighter.
We’re planning on having DLC for a lot of things. Maybe new characters, new Fatalities, it’s pretty much open for anything. We have support on the back end for backgrounds, new attacks, tweaks to fighting styles, all that.
We have a really robust online system. I can’t go into too many details but it’s going to be pretty much the most robust online fighting game system ever imagined. Just look forward to it.
While we were playing the game during a behind doors event, we noticed that the game would be receiving character DLC, and the fact that even more exciting aspects such as Fatalities can be added, makes this one of 2011’s hottest prospects.
